In regards to Surjan being picked up by West Coast or Freo..........

Is the rookie draft restricted to Local Clubs taking Local Talent and if it isnt....whats stopping the other 8 clubs before the two WA clubs selections taking him ?

There is nothing stopping other clubs taking him. But when Victorian clubs start re-drafting players like Jordon Bannister and Simon Fletcher you would have to think they really don't rate him at all.

Why? Too young?

It seems funny to me that you can be drafted onto the main list at 17 1/2?, but you have to be 18? to be on the rookie list.

A bit back to front if you ask me.

Make the draft age 18 +, but we've been down this road before.

It sort of makes sense in that rookies aren't paid as much, so why relocate a 17.5 year old kid across the country and just have him as a maybe player or a backup. If he isn't in the top 50-60 kids in the land, then let him play for the U18 team for another year and then give him a go.

I totally agree with what your saying, but what's stopping them from playing in the WAFL or local league for another year?
Just a question. Does anybody know if a rookie listed player can still play in the colts or U18 equivalent?

Sorry, meant to say U18 or WAFL or whatever.
As for the second question, most Vic clubs have an affiliated seconds team so would prefer their players to be under their control there, rather than still playing U18. Don't know if there is an actual rule though.
I'm sure that the WA/SA teams, although they don't have control over the WAFL/SANFL teams (Claremont with McKenna as coach is a prime example) would prefer them to be getting practice playing against men rather than just colts. If you are good enough to be picked as a rookie list player, then you are likely to be good enough to be playing WAFL/SANFL league or reserves at the least.

if a victorian club doesnt draft Surjan will he definetly become a docker or eagle because i wouldnt mind him being there to pick 18

In Thursdays West Australian it said that Surjan, Paul Duffield, Michael Embley, Daniel Hunt, Brett Jones and Mitch Morton were training with Wet Toast in the hope they would get picked up as rookies.

I'd hazard a guess that Surjan would be a definite if available, whilst I've heard that Duffield is a handy play and may also get chosen.

How does everyone rate these rookie hopefuls and would you recommend that the Dockers take any of them ahead of their own rookie hopeful, Colreavy?
