Can someone please explain to me what the exact Rookie list rules are? For example last years draft we picked up Skipworth, Aidan Parker and Michael Bratton. During the year Skipworth made the senior list but what happens with the other two? If we do not promote them by the draft are they able to go into it or do they stay on the rookie list?

Skippy was promoted because a spot on the senior list became available, due to Crowell going onto the long term injury list. The players on the rookie list can be told they are no longer required at the club or can be promoted to the senior list in place of delisted players. I hope that made some sort of sense.

Most of it explained cheers, but if they do not get promoted do they stay on the rookie list next year or is a rookie list spot only eligible for the one season

They can stay on the rookie list. And in some cases, as Skipworth did a few years ago. A player will be promoted during the season and play a few games, but at the end of the year if he hasn't played more than the max number of game...I think 10, can be put back on the rookie list.

This is 1st year that Skippy has been on the rookie list.

Punchy Bassett, a player has to be 23 or under to qulify for the rookie list. A player can stay maximum of 2 years on the rookie list. If there is a vacancy on the senior list the club can promote a rookie on the senior list for the remainder of the year. In this case Skippy is still rookie listed. A club can promote rookies to senior list at the end of the year. They can also keep players on the rookie list for the 2nd season if they think they are worth persisting with. So basically everyone of our rookies is eligible to stay another year on the rookie list if the club wants them.

But if you are thinking about Bratton sticking around, he has no chance. Porplyzia, Parker and Skipworth are all better players than Bratton.

IMHO, Parker and Skipworth will be promoted, Porplyzia might stay rookie listed for another year but it seems unlikely. Bratton will be given marching orders;)

Why wouldn't we keep Porplyzia and Bratton on the rookie list for another year?

Good explanation, Stiffy, and correct too.

Parker is a certainty to be promoted to the main list, while Skipworth is a near certainty (his last SANFL final game was very poor as was his disposal).

I would definitely give Porplyzia another year. His mission over summer would be to get on the weights and bulk up for next year. He has good pace, excellent skill and had a very good year with Westies at A grade level.

Bratton might get another year as well. When the Crows put him on the rookie list, they knew he had a busted shoulder that would keep him out for the first part of the season. Once he got over that, I thought he did pretty well for Norwood.

If Parker doesn't get promoted then there is something REALLY wrong. I think this morning in the tiser they said that he'll be promoted.

Skippy had a stinker against Westies but his year in general has been great. I don't think you can judge him on 1 game. He deserves to be promoted.

I don't mind Porplyzia. I like how he goes into the contest. Got guts for a light frame.

I am not sold on Bratton

I'm not saying I am either Stiffy, but I don't think we're going to really know unless he has another year, because he didn't have a good start to the year thanks to the shoulder, and only had a limited playing year.

His attributes are supposed to be blistering pace, stamina, and excellent skills - or at least that's what HE said they were in an interview at the beginning of the season.

Unless the AFL web site got their information from him, they agree!!! :D

Selected at No.58 and represented Norwood at senior level in 2002. A small midfielder with very good pace, very good skills and excellent endurance where he was equal to the draft camp record in the shuttle run with a level of 15.7. He recently under went a shoulder operation and will resume in April with full contact. An exciting young footballer who can play in a number of positions. He was a South Australian representative in the national championships held in 2002 and will be looking to build on his senior appearances for Norwood in the SANFL.
