Review Rookie List

Cachia - Looks a good prospect but will probably be a bit of a project player, give him another season or two. Might get a game or two but can stay on the rookie list. Re-rookie.

Casboult - A bit of a project. Needs to mature physically and will need another season or two to work on his game. Might get a game or 2 if we have injuries. Re-rookie.

Dare - has really good skills. I think he might get tested at AFL level to see if he's up to it yet. Is a bit skinny yet but goes about the game the right way and uses it well. Could get a game in 2010 but I don't think so. Re-rookie.

Tuohy - I think he will play senior football in 2010. His kicking is great and he's tough strong and a good athlete. Needs to tidy his skills up a bit but I think he'll play for Carlton. Re-rookie, promote later possibly.

White - Will play a big part in 2010. I recon he's quite a bit taller than his height stat is (190cm). I recon he can really play. Promote.

Garlett - Will be senior listed and a perminant player in the AFL side. An absolute steal this guy. Promote.

Ellard - May play a role in 2010. Might not be best 22 listed but will be very close to it as he has that hardness and intensity in the midfield that we lack. Promote.

Donaldson - It would be stupid to delist him. He was and still is a tall skinny project and is expected to take a while to make it. Deserves another season or two to develop. Re-rookie.

I don't think we wil rush into promoting too many players straight away. We seem to like to make them earn it and see what they can do.

We really can't promote all these rookies guys. We can only have 38 players on our senior list - To promote 3 players in Ellard, Garlett and White we would need to cut 6 players from our list. Wiggins is out, so that leaves 5.

Let's assume we will get a player for Jacobs. Picks for Thornton & Setanta. We still need to delist at least 3 players. So who goes?

Players out of contract according to the thread: Johnson, Fisher, O'Keefe, Tiller, Austin, Anderson, Scotland, Houlihan, Hadley.

Scotland and Houlihan are safe. Hadley should be okay for another year. With Thornton & Setanta leaving, Austin should be safe.

That leaves Johnson, Fisher, O'Keefe, Tiller and Anderson. Anderson seems to be the highest ranked internally of the remaining 5 players as he has been getting senior games. Johnson and O'Keefe are both allegedly elite kicks, but Johnson isn't showing it and O'Keefe can't stay out of the treatment room. Tiller is playing average footy in VFL reserves and we all know where Fisher stands.

Keep in mind this years draft actually goes pretty deep so we may want to save some rookie spots to see what comes up.

Garlett was the nominated rookie from the start of the year and Ellard from the middle of the year. White came into the list as part of the LTI for Fisher when he went down with his knee injury. Which is why he didnt play a part in the latter part of the year once Fisher became available again.

Isn't that exactly what I said?

White wouldn't have played late in the season even if Fisher was unavailable as he had season ending surgery which is IIRC what forced him out of the team.

You were rather vague about why they were on the senior list... I just gave the full explanation

And you are correct. He had the surgery to correct something and finished his season prematurely.

I would love to see him get promoted to the senior side because I reckon that he will be excellent for us in defence. However, he has one more year on his rookie contract (or is it 2 thanks to the two new teams coming in) and I think that he would be one of our nominated rookies next year.

I reckon that Garlett and Ellard are also looking at a promotion this year and I will be happy to see that happen. Ellard especially because of the amount of work he has put in to get to where he is now.

Apparently a few clubs are sniffing around in the hope of getting a 199cm agile utility, albeit with questionable skills and smarts, for next to nothing. While he might be an okay depth player at the right club, he has no real trade value which is what has attracted the other clubs.
