How does the Rookie list work as the AFL cut all teams to only 4. How can Andrew Collins be put on it he can only be used as a last pick in draft unless Curnow promoted .

Mitch Curnow
Rhys O'Keefe
Fraser Dale
Tom Bell

Anyway, yes our rookie list is full.

Collins was on a 3 year contract, according to a quote this week. So either we paid him out or it was a 2 year contract with a performance option on a third.

If he has impressed in the US, the reason we'd upgrade Ed at the last minute is because draftees are guaranteed 2 years and as a rookie Collins could be cut after one.

You can have more than 4 rookies if you have less than 40 on the senior list.
I have no idea what will happen with Collins, but if we wanted to put him on the rookie list, we would pass on a draft pick and only have 39 on the senior list.

Please correct me if I'm wrong Stamos, but I understand you can have any of the following combinations:

38 + 6
39 + 5
40 + 4

A total of 44 players on the list, although you can have any amount of International & Scholarship rookies.

Cheers for clearing that up so you can have 39 and 5 rookies or 40 with 4 Rookies as long it 44 in total. I actually think 44 is not enough should be around 48 up to 50 with the amount of injuries clubs occur each year. I think players are overpaid making it hard to get a full squad like this although. The one thing the AFL should bring in half way in the season is a small state draft to all clubs to help the injury hit clubs especially. The clubs can choose 2 or 3 each VFL, WAFL, SANFL, Country footballers players over 20 to play for them but has to be from the state they from.

I'm pretty sure (like 99.9%) that's right.

In theory a new Coach to a new club who had 50% of his squad not contracted yet in a poor club could delist them and keep 30 players on the list and have 14 rookies if they thought their players were overrated.

Not really. Rookie players can only come into the side to replace retired players, or players on the Long Term Injury list.

So you would have a team of 22, with only 8 other emergencies, unless you have a player retire or get seriously hurt.
