what does everyone think of our rookies situations? what changes to out rookie list will be made at the end of the year?

heres what i think:

Smith- seen him play a lot both for the bullants reserves/seniors and in his junior career. is a real gun. not spectacular at anything, but very solid. not quick, but a good accumulator of stats and user of the footy. good footy brain. i think he has shown enough to warrant promotion. BUT i reckon either him or batson will be delisted, only to be re-rookied if noone else picks him up.

Batson-ruck prospect who we will need to be patient. last few weeks has shown promise and improvement not only as a ruck but also as a tall forward. still has a while to go, but i think we should keep him-rucks generally take longer to develop so i think we need to persevere. same situation as smith.

Flint-started off really well. like smith, does nothing spectacularly, but is VERY composed and cool under presssure. solid backman who does his job week in wek out. a definite keeper, but i dont think he will be elevated at the end of the year. give him soe more time on the rookie list to really get it all together. only concern is what position to play him in. a key defensive post or a flanker? at the moment i would say flanker, but if he grows some more, who knows?

Jackson-has been solid for the bullants reseves. should be playing in bullants seniors though. a good player-really surprised he wasnt picked up in the National Drafts of the last few years. a real steal. quicker than many think-is by no means slow. will be a good player. if not elevated at the end of this year, a definite keeper, and elevation at the end of 2007.

aisake-a bit of an unknown. havent seen much but from all reports is doing well in the bullants reserves. taller than his brother, and is suited to a role in the ruck. should start pushing for senior bullants selection soon. will not be promoted, nor cut, as he has the option of a 3rd on the rookie list being an international rookie. i think he will make it, but will take ages, longer than his brother.

so i think we have a solid group of kids coming up through the rookie list. dont think any will be cut, but one may be unlucky (particularly this year). wouldnt be surprised in the next three years to see all of the 5 on the senior list and making progress. all look like players.

:thumbsu: Agree. I think that Smith is good enough to be promoted (Pagan indicated last year that he was a bit unlucky not to be promoted) hope he keeps up the good form with the Bullants. Looks a bit like Diesel at times, is in and under and very good with his hands. Bit of a ball magnet if given the chance.

Batson should be retained as good tall ruckmen are hard to come by and take a while to develop. A couple of years under Dempsey and in the gym should do him the world of good. Hope his attitude is good enough for him to make it.

Lots of good reports coming out about Flint but nothing much about Jackson. Agree that Aisaake is a long term project, but reports suggest he is ahead of Carlos at the same stage :)

Smith - with Bentick and Blackwell already on the list and being similar types of players, I think Smith might be hard pressed to be promoted unless he gets an opportunity to play at AFL level (and impresses) this season due to an injury.

Given the expected strenght of this year's Draft, it places more likihood of Smith missing out on promotion as well.

Batson - I think it's between him and Bryan. One will go the other will stay. I'd put my money on Batson staying at this stage, as Bryan seems to have regressed a little this season.

Flint - will be given another opportunity on the Rookie List next year, although has probably been the most impressive Rookie so far this season.

Jackson - another season as a Rookie would seem likely.

Aisake - will be a Rookie again next year. Progressing well as a Ruck prospect. Would need to be playing first Ruck for the Bullants seniors next season.

Batson cannot be retained on the rookie list. its either promotion or delisting for him. as i stated earlier, i have a feeling he may be delisted only to be re-rookied.

Hope you are right as quality big blokes are hard to come by and Batson looks to have a fair bit of development left in him,

Anybody have any word or ideas on what is happening with Anthony Raso. Will he still be on the list after this year?
