In the TV footage of this great mark, you can see the scoreboard in the background and Richmond were up by a couple of goals at this time. I presumed that this mark would've helped inspire Richmond to a victory but, as it turned out, they were thrashed by around 13 goals!

Thanks for that it brings it back now as i remember us not being so hot that year.

The very late seventies we were definately going through a post premiership period like Essendon but we never nove dived to the bottom of the ladder.

We made finals but couldnt get passed the likes of North Melbourne or Hawthorn when it came to the crunch. I think 78 and 79 were dissapointing years but good young players and some good pickups from interstate and other clubs got us a premiership in 1980.

I can remember watching the game from the middle deck dehind the goals at the ponsford end and a split second before the mark was taken i thought i saw allan Edwards push an opponent out of the way (looked like in the back to me ) I can remember thinking "there goes a free kick against us" when over the top came roach.

Then i thought what if the ump paid the free. Thankfully he didn't.
