I don't know about you guys, but I was pretty proud of the performance of the kids tonight. Carey and McKernan both injured, Stevens, King, Abraham, and Martyn all first choice players and all out of the side.

Most of the kids showed something at some stage....Rawlings, Smith, Harris, and Petrie all contributed....Clayton was solid, and Grant, Archer, Simpson all had solid games and led the team well. Pickett and Blakey were okay as well. Colbert was poor, Rocca looked well beaten, McLaren was anonymous, and Lange didn't take enough marks.

Anyway, I was pretty happy with the effort put in by the kids.

While I was reasonably happy with some of the younger players too I do believe that we got the ball into our forward 50 often enough to win but it rebounded out with monotonous regularity to Port players down the wing who presumably had no opponents- it did seem reminiscent of several games last year! Oh well good luck to Port they ultimately deserved to win as they took their chances when they were presented to them.

I only saw the game on the net (just the score updates)...it did interest me however that most of North's goals came from players I had never heard of (Rocca & Archer excepted). This must be an encouraging sign.

p.s I have been out of the country for a couple of years so pardon me if these kids have been running around for a while....the just seemed particularly obvious on the scoreboard tonight.

I too was impressed with the youngsters last night - they will only get better with a few more games under their belts. I was more concerned with the injuries to Corey and Carey, and hope they'll be right for round 1. All up it was a good effort by our boys, they never gave up, but the Power were just too good, and deserved their win.

The only problem wth the game is now we have about 26 players to fit into 22 spots for round 1. Good luck Denis!
I liked the kids, particuarly Harris who is a gun. Rawlings Petrie and Smith should all play Round 1. Clayton has put his hand up now for a spot although I am not sure where.
Our talls are the worry. We haven't got a forward who has played consistently well (Carey hasn't had the chance. Colbert and Mccartney have been good in defence but you feel we need Mick to really go well. Corey certainly needs to lift, big time.
Overall a good performance considering.
On a personal note, great to see Lasscock get a go, he did well for his period on the ground, 5 possessions and a great smother and a few tackles. Wished he had more time to see exactly how good he could be.

MOTI

Well everything has been said. but I cant help but think that Jason McCartney is just such a solid player, if he gets it he does somthing positive with it, and you just know that he is giving 110% everytime he goes out on the ground. I think Arch should stay on the forward line rather than back, he needs to check his temper as well, he used to be the on in the front, but more often than not last night he was behind the player and he doesnt like it naturally so he just loses it. He even had a few words with the umpire when he told him to leave the ground with the blood rule. Frustration has had Arch in trouble before. I think we should stick with Lang on the backline.

How good is Harris he can up to 3 people tackle him at once and he still get his effective disposal out. Makes a difference getting picks in the top ten. Instead of 45,60,73.
These kids are good, we have got the mongrel back in us and now tackle not bump.

This is going to be a good year. as good as 1996,1999 I hope.

THE DOC...

I agree with all of the above. The newer players were fantastic, I was really proud of their effort. Well done by Port as well. As raised by Daphne, does Boomer have anything to worry about ?

Harris looked good

and as for Jason McCartney - well he's just another recycle that treats his new club like life giving oxygen isn't he ?

now if only youse guys could say the same thing about Colbert....

I think you are being a bit harsh on Colbert, suggesting he doesn't give 100%.
Last year, he was injured for most of it. However, I reckon he has been very impressive
so far this year on the backline. He would be one of our most courgeous players, and if he can stay fit, I'd expect him to be in for a good year..

Bloody Hellfire, all I can say is they better give Lindsay Smith and Mark Hilton a run in the practice match at Carlscum Oval next week.

I never saw the eagles games but Colbert was very good against StKilda and Collingwood. He didn't have a good game against Port but the most encouraging thing is he has played for about a month and looks to be injury free. He can only get better and better

The one thing I am a little disappointed with so far in the Ansett Cup, is our game plan. I didn't see too much of the variation of kicking long to the forwards and just hope and pray. I certainly hope that Denis and his staff have kept something up their sleves, as it has been proven that we have to come up with something different, if we are to beat the likes of Essendon, Melbourne, Carlton etc...

I would hope that Denis has something up his sleeve and hasn't revealed all. Round 1 will provide the answer.
