Champion bloke. Been a great leader and has a heart the size of Pharlap.
Unfortunately due to his knee/body, he's now in the last 6 blokes picked in the team, not the first 6.
Probably will play 12-16 games this year. Can't have a Captain missing that much.

Comfortable with the decision to make a change of Captaincy. I truly hope I'm wrong and that Sloane plays 20+ games and gets signed for 1year extensions

Seeing how much Dawson is owning the captaincy role, I think it was a good decision for Sloane to step down. But I’m also loving the fact Sloane seems to be a man on a silent mission. His form seems to be creeping up on the improve. And amazingly over 30, coming back from a knee injury. When the going gets tough, Sloane ain’t shying away from the contests, go get ‘em Sloaney!

He was good when it counted. I didn't want hi. In the midfield this year.
Seems to have found a role to pinch hit in the middle when the pace has gone out of the game.

Great to see Sloaney back playing well & there were a few of us who didn't write him off.

Was absolutely crucial today with Dawson's impact pretty poor after a goal early. Didn't think I'd see a 30 possession game in which he set up multiple goals again though. Gotta give it to him coming back from an ACL that's a hell of a performance.

I was listening to a bit of 5aa after work when the game finished and I think it was Campo who was doing some work on there but he was saying that Sloaney doing his knee might have been a blessing in disguise because it gave him a year away to get his body healed after what he said was 2-3 years of being bashed around.

It would make sense that Sloane would play through all sorts of hurt and never get himself right. He would never give up a chance of playing.

Usually if Campo is speaking I'm not listening but there's probably an element of truth in it. More so I think though he's just more suited to playing midfield after the pace comes off the match whilst playing some other roles earlier on. Primary mid I think went past him on a week by week basis but his role & balance this year has been good in recent weeks.

Just need to be a little careful we dont over do it, he was great shouldering more work today.

Spot on

Plays more mid back end of the game when the younger and quicker mids have tired and he can really use his experience and have an impact,

Yeah you could see it the year prior to ACL that he wouldn't impact til late in matches when he'd often put in a huge last quarter. Just seems more a case of his body & speed isn't up to it when the heat is on at the start but thats fine. Coaches finally using him well & it's making him look like he's not done at AFL at all when playing as a primary mid he seemed be basically cooked.

You could say…Sloane is like a very handy midfield-sub, while playing as a non-sub. 🤪

sloane didn't step down. His hand was up but he wasn't chosen.

For the first time in a long time I'd say we probably would have lost without him
Like Tex wants to play on next year, but understands it will be up to the club.

I'd start discussion with them in early September. Not before.
But if they hold their form and fitness, I'd be very happy for them both to play on.
Yeah I would hate to see anyone past 32 sign on until September

Good clubs have an idea of needs v available talent and ability to draft/trade

Signing older players in July means you hamstring yourself

Just reiterating publicly that he wants to continue playing and having the 3 captains, 'Daws, Tex and myself' is great for the young group. In isolation, that's just how he talks, but will be interesting to see whether we start hearing of frustration about not yet being offered a contract. Ala Thommo and then Tex last year.

If he can keep his recent form up and not get injured I'd say give him another contract...... on much less coin of course.
I'd think he'd still accept it.

Campo is bloody good on the radio and doing special comments on games.
