Well, I find it amazing that there are individuals suggesting that we avoid sniping and turning on each other but where were those suggestions in 2010-2012 when I was getting sniped at by everyone on a regular basis.

Yes, I have a very long memory on that so forgive me for not really treating these suggestions as seriously given I wasn't afforded the same luxury around those times by a lot of people on here.

Anyway on topic:

Ross Lyon needs to go. He's lost the group, not got a plan and frankly enough is enough.
Chris Bond and Brad Lloyd need to go. Both are responsible for the drafting and clearly we've not done good enough.
Steve Rosich needs to go. Endorsing the 5 year contract extension is absolutely criminal and he should be responsible for the payout.

As for the last thing, supporters who have blindly defended Ross Lyon and the club, living in a world of rainbows and unicorns; I have to say it but you as supporters are part of the problem. Supporters who are happy to roll along and cop humiliation after humiliation, happy to accept mediocrity, happy to just front up and watch shit performances week in, week out, people like you make me violently ill. You know exactly who you are, people who are in denial of the reality...it's time for you to wake up and accept the facts as they currently stand.

Anyway as an aside, Dale Alcock has a really big problem on his hands and has a real choice ahead of him.

His presidency will now be defined by what happens in the next 8-10 weeks.

Does he stand up and make the hard decisions or does he roll along with the punches and accept the ineptitude that we're currently known for.
Sorry to correct you but Bondy is not responsible for recruiting as I have clarified that with him at one of the Dockers training sessions in the pre-season. Lloyd is the person responsible for recruiting and the buck stops with him.

Bond is still part of a shockingly underperforming Football Department...he's been there 10 years.

I'm calling for a full blown upheaval of the football department

That's pure speculation. You really think that at the end of our putrid 2016 the Steve's decided to lock Ross in at well over $800k a year when the writing was on the wall?
the idea that he lost a load of money during the GFC and left the Saints becuase he got alot of money from Freo to jump ship is fact.

Im keeping a little faith for the present but if we still look putrid in the coming weeks that will change. If we sacked him I'd love it, if we went hard at Chris Scott. He loved it when he was an assistant over here and he would be perfect for us
No thanks. Average game day coach and has publicly shamed us Dockers Fans by putting us in with the Eagles mob when he stated that Perth fans, (not Eagles fans), were the worst in the country for Eagles fans cheering when Hawkins got injured. Yes he will make finals more than often because he has a decent side but will be surprised if he wins the big one again.

The thing that doesn't sit right with me with the way we are playing is that Ross seems unperturbed by it. We would have seen more culpable press-conferences, more axe swinging, more positional changes during games and hearing that the boys were driven hard at training after a poor performance. This hasn't happened in the last 2 seasons. He seems happy to just trudge along, almost as if it is all part of a plan.

I agree. The afl does not want defensive play. Trying to play that way is actually impossible now.

Even the swans have changed to an attacking team. We are playing with a gameplan from 2012.

Ross is beginning to look like a one trick pony.
sorry, to intrude, but its the same gameplan from 2007 at the saints and that is your problem.

There are a lot of old threads that would make interesting reading right now.

Turns out Ross wasn't the messiah.
Actually, for a few years there he was the messiah.

You can't look at 2016/2017 and say he was a shit coach from the start, because quite clearly he came on board and had us top four for years.
I still firmly believe that our players lost the 2013 GF for themselves, if we hadn't lost our nerve for the big dance the narrative would be different right now.

If he's not the answer this year or cant perform a rebuild, then fine, say that.
But don't disparage what he did for us a few years aback, that's just disrespectful bullshit.

I'm leaning towards an honest mid season assesment myself, and I agree with many that it's not looking good for his ability to inspire the playing group right now.

But put the ****ing I told you so's and knives away, the man turned us into a feared and respected opponent for a few years there and deserves better than that crap.

I thought 2017 was going to be like our 02 season. Young talent coming through, with our recruits.

But clearly i was wrong. This is a shitter version of our 08 period. We should immediately drop all the old hacks and play the kids with the vision of playing finals in 2019 at the earliest.

Pay out ross and bring in a young enthusiastic coach.

Wtf has gone wrong with this board! Chris's Scott over Lyon! You guys have gone insane. Half the Geelong supporters want him sacked as well btw!

As opposed to the outstanding performance we're seeing at the moment?
We could go do handstands on the field if it makes you feel better, if doing anything is doing something is doing enough.

Isn't his contract about to get extended anyway? Half of the Geelong supporters are idiots as well.

Duty maybe, smells more like belligerence to me.
I think the club got ahead of itself and thought we had ascended to be the perennial top 4 team we thought we should be.
I think we got a little too comfortable with our previous progress, thinking it will continue if we deliver the same old same old.
Go AIK. Saw them play a few years ago where they came back from about 3-0 down or something pretty impressive.

There has been a lot of emotion on here so I thought I would look at the logic step by step:

Are we in rebuild mode and is everyone on board?:

Clearly we are, acknowledged by all:

  • The Board - gave an extended contract to Ross to get thru rebuild without roller coaster emotions after a week or 2 (ignore for moment right or not)

  • List Management - Significant List turnover including loyal servants and a flag of more to come, unwillingness to extend Ballas contract

  • There is an overall strategy ( refer post from L Neale’s Mgr) which the key players are aware of

I think we are on the right path here.

What type of Rebuild are we facing?

Is it :

  1. A Syd , Gee , Ade, WC rebuild where we are able to compete albeit 7-13th while bringing newbies in or,

  2. A complete rebuild Mel,Stk,Car,WB, Haw where we expose all the kids, take the bigger hits and end up with 14-18th finish

I for one think (1) is better option if your list allows and thought that with3 all Australians Johnno , Sandi & Fyfe who were largely missing in 2016 plus B Hill , Hamling & McCarthy coming back in that we were in thw “1” category. Without overplaying Rd1&2 performances , after initially thinking (hoping ) we were in “1” I now am certain we are more “2”. I wonder if those inside the club are of the same opinion.

How do we bring new players in? / Do we bring them in before they are ready / earn a game?

Throwing kids in blindly with no plan is ridiculous. Whilst Judd , Selwood and Now Sam PP are good to go straight up most good players take a bit of Time Fyfe was eased in and Dave did a full yr at Subi in the WAFL. The Dees have a blue print for stuffing up talent and it went high pick => auto select . The hack Journos here forget some of the WC guns did time on the list before playing a game ie Shuey , McGovern, . I think even the great Nic nat would have benefitted from time Rucking in the WAFL learning how to read the play rather than struggling at AFL and being criticised for low possies (his SD coach I think was of this view too).

That said I think we now need to :

  • fast track where possible the young kids showing a willingness to work on & off field in a managed way

  • Select the 3-6 year players for a chunk of games 8-10, publically load them with responsibility and expectation so that a call can be made , thenn make the call!!! - Croz , T Train , Sutcliffe , Tabs …..

What to do with the warriors?

I have loved watching them take us to finals , but sadly many are done or will be by year end. In a perfect world based on the pre season JLT game I would have liked to see the Johnno => Logue transition start in Rd14, alas an earlier call is beckoning and not due to GL tearing up the WAFL.

Johnno , Danyl , Ibbo , Subes , Zac, Griff, Spurr Clarke, & Ballas are the start. Many of the same people who criticised letting Barlow go are now loading up on Freo not “playing all the kids”.

Draft or Trade?

We will get an early pick and should look to maximise. For us to target Logue and pick him & Cam up for swap pick was a sound strategy, but we need to have a Rd1 & Rd 2 pick or a good homesick WA guy. I think the recruitment guys are on a hiding to nothing based on these boards, half say we should really go for out and out talent rather than be conservative and the other half pile on when that approach doesn’t work ie Simpson , Bennell. I have for years tracked the phantom drafts & expert picks and all of Schammer , Dunn , Drum, Mora , Pitt were widely tipped to go around or before the Freo selection....

The Coach?

Can Ross coach? Yes he got sides to play in GF’s carrying Brett Peake ,Nick Suban Zac Dawson , Robert Eddy , Farren Ray , Jason Gram etc. in the best 22……. We repeatedly hear how he never played the kids at StK but if you want a laugh, google StK drafting , excluding trades no one recycled those delistings!!

I for 1 want to see where we are at at yr end 2018 before making a call

Or did he take over a side that was going to be good anyway , wring it out and sow the seeds of our present predicament
