I did manage to work it out in the end thankfully. True that, can't imagine the VIP sponsorship event would have gone ahead either, fans around the huddle!

Credit to Finnis, similar to Gale at the Tiges, realised the untapped potential and is making it work.

Clear defined boundaries now, the coach isn't running the entire show.

Maybe the saints thought we could not get someone like Finnis. The afl did help us get him.

Still, Finnis has a lot of work still to do. Increase nemberships. Another major sponsor, etc

I think that was it, we couldn't find anyone better. Finnis was a gun at the AFLPA too, the new guy is a loud flog...he thinks AFL players should earn as much as international athletes playing in 11 man teams or individual sports. He's got a touch of the unrealistic about him and even could be detrimental to a huge bulk of players in his care. If they pay a few too much then all the hundreds of others that pay his wages get less.

great post. i didnt get the ill feeling towards finnis when rumours were surfacing that we were into him. people stated they didnt like what he did at the AFLPA but the way i saw it, he did his job perfectly. he didnt over encroach and he always defend and fought for his primary concern, the players.

said it back then it was a good appointment. he's gone beyond that already. absolutely blown me away

CEO's who put themselves out as figureheads of their organization will generally put a lot more effort into the job then someone who will sit back in a board room waiting for their inevitable mass payout to get rid of them.

No kids allowed. Ross Lyon's masterplan MkII

Fremantle, under Lyon, is doing a St Kilda under Lyon.

Yet in this version of focusing on fielding an outfit which relies on playing the oldies till they drop, there also has been great and detailed planning for the future.

Lyon, and his senior players at St Kilda, gave everything possible only to come agonisingly close to premierships in 2009 and 2010, and he and the Dockers have already come near the same prize, losing to Hawthorn in the 2013 Grand Final.

In contrast to the situation at St Kilda, much of which was beyond Lyon’s control anyway, the Dockers, regardless of what happens post Matthew Pavlich, Luke McPharlin, Aaron Sandilands and co., have not only recruited well but have developed their recruits along the way.

That's funny cos I don't see anyone on Fremantle's list that can replace McPharlin, Sandi or Pav...

And what this will do is force young blokes to seek opportunity elsewhere, knowing they will be guaranteed senior matches. Ross loves his 'role players', but until he places more natural footballers in his team, they will not win a flag

They are looking pretty good right now though. Funny how it is presented as beyond Lyons control as well. Where did you find that article?! Was it a kindergarten competition in Freo!

i've had this argument on the main board. freo supporters genuinely dont see the problem they are facing

the fact is ross should have used the eagles game to get game time into the likes of blakely, langdon/weller, even a hannath/apeness. instead he's pushing blokes 29+ against a bottom 8 side. why does sandi need to play against the eagles? why does mundy? theres literally no man management going on or pushing player development. its bleeding the maximum you can out of the ageing best 22 and **** the rest

his strategy now relies on blokes going to 33+ in age as opposed to 30

Say you're Weller. You're watching other players from your draft year getting 20-30 games under their belt in their first contract term (2 years), while you sit playing WAFL every week. I think that breeds a high degree of "stuff you!".

Thanks for the solid, Rossco.

Lyon is a turd. I'm hoping it isn't a Freo Swines GF as I despise both teams, but always actively barrack against Freo/Lyon.

It was so sweet seeing them go down to the Hawks in 2013. Would be nice to see them go down again in a GF!

It has become blindingly clear that if Ross wants to avoid a repeat of the problems he left at St Kilda with the Dockers, he needs to act pretty fast. He is choosing not to.

If Freo end up going down the same path as we are now traveling, the amount of red faces in purple jumpers will be immensely satisfying, as they are forever talking up how much differently their club is handling Lyon, and how they won't fail where we did.

Yeah, right! A cheetah doesn't change it's spots.

Some accurate summations on here.
Lyon is running the Freo list flat out like a sports car at night time racing towards a tee intersection with no headlights and deliberately avoiding detours.
Oh yeah, just as he did with us.

You mean it was Trouts fault we drafted Polo and the rest of the mature bodied yet totally devoid of skill players???
Get real Ross the Toss

This year before Simms Metal take away the wrecks!

And then we've all seen what has happened to Goodes this year. He's what 33? 34? He's probably gone a year too long and therefore over the cliff, body can't keep up. It doesn't take much. It could be the slightest of hamstring strains and it can put an older player out for 3-4 weeks, But in that time the pace is lost, that base goes and the game has sped up again and they just can't quite get those heights come the end of the season. It will come back to hurt them.

Especially in rnd 19 ;-)

I know for a fact it was difficult financial decisions that forced his hand to leave, so I hold no grudges.

He is doing the same to Freo as he did to us however.

Taberner and Apeness got games last season. Tabs is doing well up forward. Dawson is out for 2 weeks, Silvagni is out for 12 weeks with injury. Perfect chance for Alex Pearce to debut. We can promote Tanner smith or tom Vandeleur off the rookie list and give Pearce and Smith/ Vandeleur 3-6 games each as 3rd tall defenders

its great to hear from a freo supporter who like me wants to see the younger player get a go. sadly ross doesnt share our view. tabenar will play, but of the others you mentioned, they dont get a look in against melbourne

i really dont understand why ross is flying over sandi. nor do i understand why theyre flying mcpharlin over, as you suggested why not play one of the younger talls

langdon/blakely/weller/bellard also not getting a look in

Oh and Since 31 year old ryan crowley is out, guess who replaced him? A 22 year old lachie Neale who got 39 disposals and 3 goals in the WA derby. Blakely and Weller had good pre seasons and should get their debut. Again Alex Pearce was an emergency last week and could of played as a 3rd tall down back but we just used McPharlin and Johnson.
