I cant fit Ossie in there. I want Young in, but dont know where. Draft pick 3 or 6 are both a chance to play round 1, ala. Franklin..

I have a feeling that Barker won't be there. I don't know if I like Roughead at FB (Bit slow off the mark). I would rather Croad there but that would take away his run. Can someone lock Dawson in McDonalds with a bench press all summer and tell him to eat as many qtr pounders as possible!

Prefer your selection, MM. Yes I would have Croady back at CHB. Give Boyle a chance to settle in at CHF. With Willo, Mitch and Bateman back it is a stronger and more talented team than the last-round one against the ultimate premiers. A more bulked up and broad shouldered Clinton Young with a serviceable pre-season will be go on to be given more game time after his sequence of the last seven games. Clarkson has made no secret of the fact he sees this kid as having a future.

I would say your team will be close to the mark for the opening round. In respect of policy maybe another new kid could find himself in there if there is one who impresses pre-season.

Unfortunately Brown won't be there in Rd1 courtesy of the tribunal. In fact I dont think he is eligible till Rd3.

No backup ruckman in MM's team.

(1) Mitchell Clark 2005 draft - 197cm CHF/RR - realistically a big call for a first gamer but height & ability should see him through.#
(2) Beau Dowler - 2005 draft - 192cm KPP/FF - Can mark & kick goals.
(3) Thurgood - if his body has filled out. I'd like Brennan at FB but @ 185cm I think he is just bit too undersized. Certainly played very well when down back later in the 2005 season.
(4) Franklin - let his size, atheletism & talent cause mayhem. Give him a roving commission all around the ground. The new Adam Goodes/Dipper.

# if Clark struggles through Croad forward and Jacobs on to go back but with an inexperienced backline now that Hay has gone, need someone with experience back there.

Kennedy is our man, followed by Ryder KPP's
I agree with you on mitch Clark

Thurgood at fullback?? At best he would be a good half back flankers who can provide run out of defence. The kid has talent but I am not sold yet, is yet to prove he will make it at AFL level.

Yes, I had no back up ruckman in my side, mainly beacuse I think both Taylor and Campbell are rubbish. Hopefully one of our drafties can quickly become Everitts apprentice, Clark or Ryder?? Buddy could also fill in, but would prefer he didn't

Rusty, have my doubts about Thurgood having the build for full-back. If he was stronger and not thrown all over the paddock like a rag doll (maybe a haircut would help ) he has the ability to be a very good defender. I like his g & d. However, we need a new full back just hope the kid bulks-up and maybe hold down the position.

Thurgood - I certainly think he is worth persisting with to be our next Full Back. He has the height 190cm now but assume still growing.

If you look at the leagues top full backs - Mel Michael 190cm, Harley & Scarlett 192cm each, Brian Harris - 194cm & all around mid 90kg mark. As Gary said, G & D no doubts about that. Im assuming he has a good preseason - bulks up and maybe in 2007 is around that mid 90kg rate could/ should turn into a top FB.

Dont agree with you on either Taylor & Campbell. Taylor reminds me of a Paul Abbott type player, tall enough to relief ruck, as well as play tall forward (not KPP) and mark & kick goals. Campbell has desire to play, big body, reasonable skills - personally, I would put him in the FP next to Willo and scare the living daylights out of any defender trying to hold Willo out on the lead by running straight at em, the enforcer.

Yes, Rusty, something I've been on about during the season. When Willo leads he needs someone to look after his back from the opposition snipers (e.g: Essendon type king-hitmen).

Couldnt agree more Gary. Once the leagues defenders found they could just hold onto Williams without being penalised (who remembers Williams getting a free kick for being held?), Williams goal productivity dropped considerably. Free willy & watch the goals score

We need a tall Full forward to sit in the square and also protect Willo on the lead. But I honestly think Taylor is too slow and not the high quality player we need down there. Thats why I think its vital the Hawks pick up Kennedy in the draft this years. He is 195 ish cm and big, over 90kg, he could play a Alastair Lynch type fullforward role, (Brisbane 01-04), in the furture, and provide some protection for willo

Yes! Alastair Lynch didn't stand rubbish from anyone not just towards himself but anyone else standing over smaller Brisbane forwards. Result: Four successive grand finals (of course over the coaching of a former a Hawk iron-man).
