the dogs maybe 3-0 in a few weeks facing Brisbane at Marvel. They are loaded everywhere and realistically need to finish top 4 or its a fail.

Pies were below average in most areas and got beat by 16 points. Its not time to go to defcon 2 just yet.

Yes i realise his old contract would be already part but 600k (at a guess no way he was on 400k) to 1mil adds 400k.
That knocks out Phillips (300-400k after our payment),
600k for treloar left and
450 to 600k for Stepho depending on who you believe.

Other deals also increased and expected big offer for Moore and Degoey.

Maybe a million free but expected increases to Moore and Degoey could see that largely swallowed leading into 22.
DeGoey was re-signed for 2 years. So looking at 2024 for his next contract. You really think DeGoey is going to get much more than what he is currently getting? Unless he becomes a consistent super star over the next 12 months I doubt it. But as I said, when they agreed on the contract with Grundy, do you think they signed off knowing they were not going to be able to stay under the cap for 2021? Absolutely no way when you have contracted players.

top 10 possession getters for the match, is this a work rate issue? Or game plan? Or both? Not sure. View attachment 1081512

The worse stat is that we got practically smashed around the midfield and we laid less tackles then the Doggies. That reeks of a poor workrate, and a lack of want to win possession.

Footscray didn't win this game. Collingwood lost it. The squandered chances were everything. The enormous possession differential is meaningless in scoring terms.
1. The game strategy and the tactics used by Collingwood were correct. The were plenty of opportunities provided to the forwards, and the defenders held their ground throughout the game.
2. The skill errors that cost Collingwood the game came from the experienced players. The dropped marks and poor passes were rarely from the newer players.
3. Henry was not ready. His nervousness was palpable on screen even. Dropping him might damage his confidence further. What to do.
4. The biggest problem for the team is the centre bounce. As has been the case for many years, Collingwood does not clear the ball from the centre often or well. Whoever is responsible for what happens there needs to change his approach or be replaced. We have been vulnerable there for years, sometimes with an elite bunch of players in there, and sometimes like yesterday with a weak line up. Since the personnel have no effect, it must be the methods. As a ball watcher, I don't really understand the fine points of centre square work, but the coach in charge of that line doesn't seem to either.
5. Like our players, the umpires were subject to a lot of skill errors. Pushes in the back were adjudicated in a very random way, and geography seemed to be quite a problem. More than a dozen sub 10m kicks were awared as marks, half a dozen got a play on, and Maynard ran a good 30m from full back without a bounce or a penalty.
6. Players deliberately dragging opponents into the prohibited zone should not be rewarded. In our game they were. In the Richmond game I heard the umpire tell the players to"take him out" when they appealed for those 50's. I also noticed that the players completely ignore that instruction, but at least no undeserved 50's were given.
7. Daicos does not belong in the forward pocket at this stage in his career.
8. Tyler Brown showed a bit.
9. Ruscoe didn't.
10. Grundy was patchy.
11. Moore was brilliant.
Not sure about that.

Grundy should never have gotten that contract. Forget how crap he was last year, ruckman (or in Grundys case a giant ruck rover) arent worth the money. Nankervis has 3 flags and he is toiler.

The club missed a massive chance to send him home get 2 firsts from Adelaide. It will haunt them for years.

Should have picked Naughton not Stephenson. ******* Hine and his smokies
We should be reviewing Hine and hai team now regardless of the latest crop of picks. Should be reviewed over the past 5 years to determine his performance. At least if the conclusion is that he hasn’t performed to expectations, go and get someone now leading into the next draft.

He has some sort of hypnotic hold over people. He isnt the Oracle he is made out to be.

What an exquisite tap Brodie, that tap at the ruck contest straight to the opposing Ruckman in Martin was a sight to behold, you take your game to new levels of shitness, as I have repeatedly said, no ruckman is worth a $ 1 million dollars per year , yet we as a dumbass club, succumbed to his overinflated opinion of himself, and his self worth . only matchwinners deserve that coin you million dollar piece of sh*t,
My biggest knock on him is contested marking, trampoline hands, and you're right no ruckman is worth that, maybe Dean Cox at his best but even that's a stretch.

I wouldn’t complain had we pinched the 18 flag, but that we traded him for next to nothing makes it a bad call.

I'm pretty confident still that Stephenson will have a better career, but when JUH and English enable the dogs to play Naughton in defence, it may be a different story

So basically we are paying him out partially the final year of his contract with us?
I wouldn't get why we would be paying part of his new 3 year contract with the Hawks. Just doesn't make any sense. Also factoring in we only took a 4th round selection for him.
That’s what I was told. My guess would be we pay him $300 year 1 as do Hawks and then if he only had 1 year left with us which it what it’s reported then the Hawks take over fully in the next two years presumably on less coin

Very disappointing if true, how anyone in their right mind would pay Phillips 600kpa is beyond me.
He triggered more clauses that expected. I think even Phillips considered he was on overs.

One year l can deal with for $300k. Still has opened our salary cap up going forward, and l want to see the club attack free agency this year.

I dont want us to do that at all. We've just come out of a dicey contract situation and bringing in someone excellent would put us right back into it. The last thing the club needs is another 800k tied onto a player like Kelly who won't be able to lift us to a premiership alone.

workrate, talent and gameplan. Midfield totally outclassed. Baily Smith... gun.
Set up around stoppage was a big one. We have two go to where the ball is and one defensive side of the pack. They only got one to the ball (who regularly won it anyway) If one of our two got it, there's no-one to give to. If the Dogs get their hands on it, they own the other side of the pack and easily feed it to the bloke on the other side of the pack in space. Plus their wingers get involved and ours keep their structure to give even more of an outnumber on one side of the pack. It happened over and over and over again, without a change.
