Review Round 1 loss to North

This is why I was worried about having our easy games first up.

We woul likely have been better off starting with a tough run then getting the East games when we got our shit together.

I was hoping we would scrape through the first 4 and then build into the tougher games but it doesn't look like we will
Yep, my thoughts exactly.

The thought of us being so underdone and disorganised that we could lose consecutive home games to Essendon and West coast after getting pumped by North is frightening.

Kane Cornes on Sen talking to King, "this is what Port Adelaide fans wanted" King - What do mean come on, Cornes " Careful what you wish for, Ken did a really good job with what he had."

He goes on to criticise how we never went to the draft lol, Hinkley was to busy recruiting injured and washed up players to save his job, we have no ****ing draft picks.

Then we have Koch, we don't bottom out.
No we will be mediocre and make the eight so we never get any good draft picks.

Sounds exactly like his old man, to say this guy played for Port makes me sick.

And y'know Kane I'm still glad that we went down this path. We were in for some pain because (among other things) of Davies thinking you can always trade out first round picks because you can trade in the same. Until you can't because you need those picks.

And I would rather start bringing in new talent under a coach who doesn't have a messiah complex.

As 1954 posted, Carr will start sifting this list and we will get in early talent again to strengthen from below. We have a really accomplished coaching panel who will develop young talent while sorting out the chaff.

Yeah we lost, but we are trying new things rather than gormless old mate and his victim complex.

Carr's press conference was alright. Acknowledged the broken tackles and getting caught between lines. Actually talked about some of the issues not just try hardery for longery.

They know what they have to work on and they will do it.

Yeah, and if they don't he'll bash them!!

I mean he's right about one thing, this is what I wanted. A chance to actually forge a new path.

Carr is no fool, he's now had the opportunity to have a good look at the players that took the field, he knows who's going to be on his list or not.

What disappointed me was the lack of leadership by our so called top tier players.

Between Carr and Dew I'm sure they will sort out which players they want long term.

Copped 7 heavier defeats than Sunday just last year, and of those games, all seven included Ollie Wines and five included Travis Boak — who were obviously both absent (suspension/retirement) on Sunday from that overrun engine room.

And this frothy fumcart has a predictable pop at the fans for wanting rid of the previous guy 😂

I talked about that in my review but the best part about the game was Carr's press conference because if you listen to it he talks about all of the reasons we lost the game and also which is not usual when they occurred.

Instead of a coach making poor excuses and trying his best to get soft ball questions out of the 'journalists', he was very calm and went about what went wrong and will look to change that.

Someone said that on the plane home Carr was watching footage of the game and had his head buried in a laptop which warms the cockles of my heart.

There are a lot of moving parts at the moment and it is going to take a while to settle down and see what we have.

Yeah Cornes picks on Port in round 1 with a new coach trying new things, maybe he should set his mind back to the thrashings in the preliminary finals and the Russell Ebert tribute game under Hinkley.
The guy uses his position to trash talk the club in round 1, how ****ing disrespectful to Josh Carr, what an absolute turd.

Whilst I agree with your point, have to consider the opponent and timing.

Sundays loss was against a team that has been bottom four for a generation and whilst they should improve, aren't exactly prime Geelong in Geelong.

Its the bleakest loss in terms of indicating where we're at for quite a while.

No qualms there, it was an atrocious performance.

I picked us finished 12th this year and unless there’s a rapid improvement across the board, that’s looking optimistic.

Pretty disappointing start to the year after actually looking forward to a game for the first time in a long time.

Like many here, I expect patchy results and that a transition to a new game plan and coach will take time to take effect, however I was disappointed in the lack of physicality and particular the very poor tackling attempts.

I thought Marshall did pretty well in his new role apart from a few defensively poor moments (which I think is forgivable given it was not only his first game as a defender but also game for well over a year).

I’m keen to see how Carr responds and changes things up over the next few weeks.

i know this sounds crazy but not trying hardery enough for longery enough was the main reason we lost this game.

Nah, it was more lack of intent/technique in our tackling, getting caught between lines trying to execute the game plan and giving up too many marks, and missing too many targets.

As Luke Webster noted in his presser, we were ranked third in the comp for tackle attempts. We tried, we just couldn't stick them.

We looked like we lacked intensity and our appetite for the contest wasn’t there. If a side is up and about and ready for the contest they stick those tackles. It was just a flat performance.

Our pre season was crap. Plenty on here think that is irrelevant. I'm not one of them.
