Happy to see Markovic and Jones in the side for this week. Both had solid years in 2010 and have obviously continued too develop. These are the future along with Cordy and the 2011 draftees. Get rid of Hill, Tutt and Hooper off the list and we are starting to resemble a list that will be solid over the next 5 years taking into account natural attrition.

First of all your team says you go for Collingwood.

2nd of all Tutt is coming along nicely and is no where near getting delisted

Interesting that we only going in with one ruckman, surely Huddo wont go at it alone so I'm guessing Tommy will spend time in the ruck or maybe Jones?

Thanks for the sarcasm, no I havent. Stack in the past struggled to make an impact across the forward line. Why should I automatically believe that he's now going to be a competent defender capable of shutting down his opponent & producing attacking football?

I dont think anyone is being sarcastic Mike .... they are just stating facts. Here is what Rodney Eade had to say at the presser after the Freo game.
"I thought Zephy Skinner was good and Brennan Stack was very good.

and James Fantasia on the club website
and there were some good performances with the likes of Brennan Stack playing in a defensive role and in the second half he did a really good job on [Hayden] Ballantyne and gave us run out of defence."

And the Captain last week
But Boyd said Easton Wood, Brennan Stack, Tom Williams, Dale Morris and star utility Rob Murphy gave them plenty of defensive options.

No Second Ruckman. Think we can tried to go a little overboard with pace.

I do smell some funny buggers, I am think that Minson might be a late inclusion.

Has to be a last minute change to this team. I will be very surprised if we go in with just the one ruck. Otherwise it's Tom Williams or Markovic. Now Marko has done it with Willi a few times last year and did ok....but Tommy struggles.....

anyway.....they keep throwing up surprises to the rd 1 team....Can't say I like the team selected....but let's hope they know what they are doing.

Liam Jones is 197cm with a strong leap and has done some pinch hitting ruck work in the past

yeah you might be right....not seen him played in ruck in the practice matches or at Willi. It's bizarre that that they go this way when they didn't do it at all in the practice matches....so it makes me think they are playing games and we'll have a last minute change.

I remember saying the same thing about Harbrow two years ago.

Stack's apparently had a very good preseason and a change in role might be the spark he needs to take that next step as an AFL footballer.

The final decision on the side:

FB: Wood, Markovic, Morris
HB: Murphy, Williams, Stack
C: Griffin, Boyd, Ward
HF: Higgins, Jones, Gia
FF: Grant, Hall, Cooney
R: Hudson, Cross, Libba
I/C: Djerrkura, Hill, Sherman, Picken
Emer: Minson, Wallis, Barlow

Only 1 ruckman going into the game. Looks like Williams or Markovic will be the backup ruckman for Huddo. From the sound of it, Markovic has had good experience in the ruck from Williamstown last yr.

Cant wait for this game! GO DOGS!

Yeah but I don't ever remember anyone complaining about Harbrow lacking intensity or hardness at the man/ball. Stack will have to improve those two things out of sight to be even a decent defender.

What's the go with vez?

vez needs to prove his worth by performing at VFL

If he remains limited to forward line positions he may struggle to get games.

There is a lot of depth at the Dogs to compete with.

The addition of Libba and Wallis gives more midfield depth and leaves players like Gia and Higgins to play more forward and of course the inclusion on the list of Sherman and Djerrkura makes that even more so.

Only having one ruckman concerns me too. Hudson is clearly in our best 22 but is 32 now and will need breaks. Add in a couple of "suspect' players in Hill and Stack, unproven Djerrkura and ,to some extent Jones and the debut Libba and i think we have taken too much risk. i support the blooding of new players and giving suspect players a chance to perform if form warrants i just would have tried so many in one game. I thought either Roughead or Minson was a certainty and Moles was worth a try.

But you select a player in a prem final that hasnt played all season (Tim Callan) instead of blooding a youngster and let him make a name of himself

Go figure

From what I remember, he played pretty well.

I have similar views but I think the tactic will be for Markovic to follow Ryder into the ruck while the main ruckmen are resting. From memory he did a fair bit of ruckwork for Willi.

Not sure what Moles has to do? Seemed to be in our best players a few times during pre-season. I thought we could use his pace and that he would be ahead of Sherman.

Just a side note - I think Hill will be the Sub

He was reportedly very poor against North in our final practice match which has probably counted against him with his non-selection.
