I know its very early but now the NAB cup is finished who would be in your round one line-up, mine would be

B: Rivers Carroll Whelan
HB: Bell Ferguson Ward
C: Green McLean C. Johnson
HF: Bate Miller Bruce
F: Davey Neitz Robertson
Foll:White McDonald Johnstone
Int: Yze Moloney Jamar Bartram

Emer: Jones Bizzel Sylvia

I've included Yze after his Sandy game but would have no issues in dropping him and Pickett. Bartram had 17 possies in a half for Sandy so he is in as well. I have also left out Jones because i just couldn't find the right position for him and the bench was full, but im sure he will play. If sylvia is fit he will get a go as well and i wouldnt be suprised to see biz play against the saints who as usual will stretch us for height down back. Which is why ferg is playing, im a massive rap for him including his attacking efforts, another round 1 like against essenden in 05 would be good. Wouldnt want to be a selector!!

I wouldn't have Jones out of the side unless he was sick or dead.

Ward will be the unlucky one to make room. After round 12 he'll be finished playing Guy Rigoni style at Sandy.

Against the Saints:

B: Whelan, Carroll, Holland
HB: Bell, Rivers, Bruce
C: Green, McLean, Jones
HF: Pickett, Miller, Bate
F: Robertson, Neitz, Davey
R: White, McDonald, Johnstone
I: Bartram, C Johnson, Jamar, Moloney

E: Ward, Yze, Sylvia

Unlucky: Bizzell, Ferguson, P Johnson, Brown, Dunn, Frawley

Holland only ahead of Ferguson because he's proved that he can play against Gehrig and beat him... Dunno if he can do it again, though.

Probably missed out a huge player...

Jones would be a certainty to play round 1 I would have thought. Maybe Chris Johnson makes way.

Dunn would be thereabouts too I would have thought?

C: Johnstone, McLean, Pickett
HF: Green, Miller, Bruce
F: Robertson, Neitz, Yze
FOLL: White, McDonald, Jones
Int. Jamar, Moloney, C.Johnson, Brown

Pretty stong line-up Yze lucky but we all know he'll get a run, Miller is selected by default - no-one else to put there

EDIT: Davey in, Brown out

Don't think Sylvia will be anywhere near fit by round 1, and Bartram may need another game or 2 at Sandy to get full fitness.

With the pre season all but over, I would pick the round 1 team something like this:

B: Whelan, Carroll, Holland
HB: C.Johnson, Rivers, Bell
C: Johnstone, McLean, Green
HF: Bruce, Miller, Pickett
F: Davey, Neitz, Robertson
R: White, McDonald, Jones
INT: Jamar, Moloney, Yze, Bate

EMG: Ward, Brown, Dunn

Wouldn't suprise me to see Bate out for one of Ward/Brown as they both had good pre seasons. Yze probably did just enough.

FB: Bell Carrol Ferguson
HB: Whelan Rivers Bruce
C: Green McLean Johnstone
HF: Pickett Sylvia Bate
FF: Robertson Neitz Davey
R:White Jones McDonald
I: Bartam (17 possies in 1st half today, quallity player), Jamar, Yze, Moloney

E: Miller Bizzel Ward

We have some serious talent in this side. Its very hard trying to pick a best 22.

Midfield is impressive
Back line underrated
Forward line plenty of options.

A lot of people seem to have Miller in as a shoe in and yet I think that Dunn should be played all the time. He looks like he will develop into a good player and should be given every opportunity to do so where as Miller is about as good as he's ever going to be which isn't that great anyway.

Yeah, he'll take over the position eventually. We all know Miller is quite possibly the worst CHF in the league, we really should realise he's never going to be the answer

Dunn has a bigger future but has not had a great pre-season, Miller's performance against Geelong will see he starts the year at CHF. Some solid form at Sandy will get Dunn back in the team, he could play round 1 but it I don't think it's likely.

Bell should be in the midfield; he can help improve the clearance/link man situation
Bell has spent the pre-season as a tight checking defender and as far as I know has spent no time in the midfield. I think that shows what Daniher has in mind for him.

He is some kind of chance but it is fairly remote. I would have him about 5th emergency but it's hard to predict what ND will do.

How come he is such a remote chance?

Granted he is coming back from injury, but I thought he was over it and was well on the way to playing some of his best footy once again.

We all know how good he can be, I would have imagined he would slot into your defence...

I don't know that he would be a remote chance. I think his run from the backline is something we really missed last year, I'd be surprised if he was left out.

Fullback is a problem. I am not sure that Carroll is upto it under the new rules.

I think Carroll will be OK for now, but you do need to start developing some young tall defenders as he isn't the best.

I'm just saying that your KP defender stocks look thin to me. Carroll will obviously take FB for now, but who will take the 3rd tall, assuming Rivers plays CHB? Miller? I hope not-for your sake. Not trolling, but I honestly think he is a very ordinary player. That's why I think Bizzell is a reasonably big chance of playing come round 1 if he is fit.

The strange this is that Miller isn't too bad as a defender, in fact if we had anyone decent to play at CHF I reckon that's where he'd play. And yes, Miller is an ordinary player, but if given a stopping job (like last year against Barry Hall) he's quite good.

The third tall against the Saints would either be Holland or Ferguson. Whilst neither are world-beaters they'll have to do. Bizzell isn't really that tall, his best value is playing as a loose defender or running back flanker, but Chris Johnson has assumed that role. I think Frawley will fill this position eventually though.

I would be terrified of a matchup of Bizzell on any of Gehrig, Kosi or Riewoldt. He’s only 188cm and if he gets a game it should be as a medium sized defender/loose man in defence where I would have Bell/C.Johnson/Ward/Brown ahead of him - and I couldn't find a spot in the 22 for either Ward or Brown.

Holland was good last year as a tall defender and should play when the opposition has 3 tall forwards, next in line after him are Ferguson and Warnock. Miller should not play as a defender again.

This is all speculation though, there is a large number of players who are borderline for the round 1 team and it will be very interesting to see which way Daniher goes.

As a side note I don't see where all this hate for Carroll is coming from, his form last year was best we've gotten out of a full back in a long time.

I'm lost too, Carroll could've been All Australian if Bradshaw didn't go to town on him. I wouldn't play Holland on Gehrig or Riewoldt after his effort in the final. Maybe he could handle Kosi if he is down on confidence.

The round 1 team should be as follows but wont because Daniher is a drop kick!!!

Taking into account this info about Dunn being injured and Bartram and Sylvia not being match fit.

Whelan Carroll Bell
Rivers Ferguson Ward

Moloney McDonald C.Johnson

Davey Miller Bruce
Pickett Neitz Robertson

White McLean Johnstone

Jones Bate Jamar Buckley

You may ask why no Green or Yze.
Simple because they are both rubbish they are both guttless wonders who love getting on the end of handballs and drop the ball like its a hot potato when any sought of pressure is applied.

I'd rather see a youngster like Buckley get a game ahead of those two fools.

TJ for the Brownlow

B: Whelan - Carroll - Ferguson
HB: Bizzell - Rivers - Ward
C: Johnstone -Bruce -Moloney

HF: Robertson - Miller -Davey
F: Pickett- Neitz - Yze
R: White - McLean - McDonald
I: - Jones -Jamar - Holland- Bartram

Emergencies
- Bate - Bell -C.Johnson

Green:mad: i just am not very keen on, neither am i on Paul johnson:eek: , adding Yze was tough:confused: ...

When the game gets tough the likes of Green and Yze go missing when we need our leaders to be strong.

Green has got away with being weasel for too long and its time we realise he isnt the type of player who can handle the heat in the kitchen.
