Now that the final practice match of the pre-season is over, I thought it would be appropriate to start a thread about the round 1 team. I won't do my team yet, but will make some comments.

There are question marks over the fitness of: Jolly, Vardy, Bruce, Johnstone, Broadbridge.

Our side will be out of the following list (based on pre-season). Armstrong, Bizzell, Broadbridge, Brown, Bruce, Ferguson, Green, Heffernan, Jamar, Johnstone, Jolly, Lamb, Leoncelli, McDonald, Miller, Moorcroft, Neitz, Rigoni, Robertson, Thompson, Vardy, Walsh, Ward, Wheatley, Whelan, White, Williams, Yze.

Thats 28 names, can't squeeze that into 22!

Very outside chances (as in next to no hope): Rogers, Clark, Breese

Thoughts?

BA - Bassett - Croft - Hargrave
HB - Harrison - Grant - Murphy
CE - McMahon - West - Alvey
HF - Gilbee - Bandy - Smith
FD - Brown - Johnson - Giansiracusa
RU - Darcy, Robbins, Garlick
INT - Hahn, Kretiuk, Wiggins, Birss

Scared me for a second there, I though all of a sudden we were a weak team who will struggle to wina game, then I realised you posted the Bulldogs team. Not to worry ;)

Clark's a rookie now isn't he? If so HE DOES HAVE NO CHANCE! :D

Bizzell,Lamb,Whelan
Walsh,Ferguson,Ward
Yze,Bruce,Wheatley
Johnstone,Robertson,Heffernan
Armstrong,Neitz,Green
White,Leoncelli,Brown
Jamar,Rigoni,Moorcroft,Thompson

Emergencies

Miller (Say for Bruce if he's not fit), Williams (Johnno?) & Godfrey

Solid but far from spectacular.

I'd doubt Broady or Vards would play, have they played any pre-season games this season?

Jolly's playing for Sandy tomorrow apparently, which makes me think he will be fit by round 1. However I think Jamar will get his chance & rightly so too. His pre-season form has been good & he's fully fit. He lacks the skill of Jol but has more strength, which could be especially handy against Hawthorn.

Plenty of run out of defence & Ferguson adds height, we'll have to go with it I reckon.

Bizzell may be needed at Chf. I'd doubt Rogers will start, he'll probably get his chance this season but he needs to regain some confidence @ Sandy I think. Wheatley's also an option for CHF too (and Bruce obviously IF he gets over the hammy injury! )

We've got some pace & flexibility with this team. Wheather we have enough class or not time will tell...

LOL.

Nice bit of cut & paste there X-ie! ;)

Some decent kids in your team too, btw.

Grant seems primed for an improved year.

You'll need a lot of luck, but then who apart from Brisbane doesn't?

Yeah, but we can add 2 rookies to the senior list because we don't have and veterans and we also have a full senior list. I believe there is a cut off for this, but can't remember what it was, footyman? In any case I'd say Clark will be one of the 2, Fisher may be the other (as he has also played a practice match).

Fair enough then! ;)

Where's your 22???

LOL...
That forward line must scare you, though. ;)

Your "forward line" looks a lot like your midfield re-positioned. ;)

Your midfield looks pretty mediocre.

We have a good midfield. We only need to pick up one decent forward to allow a Nathan Brown like player to fill our midfield role. West is simply a ball winner. He has been in the top ten possession getters for six of the last seven years.
Matthew Robbins - Watch out for him. He started season 2002 on a high, however, unfortunately, Jackovich broke his AC joint, which put Robbins out for eight weeks. He is my darkhorse for season 2002.
Simon Garlick is one of the Bulldogs' most underrated player. He can play midfield or forward and he will most likely swap positions with Guido (Giansiracusa) throughout the season. Because of Liberatore's retirement, I am expecting Garlick to get a tagging job.
Then, of course, there is Luke Darcy. I will not continue.

Anyhow, our midfield may be somewhere in the middle - I would slot it into the top eight in the league, though, just.

Walsh Ferguson Ward
Bizzell Lamb Brown
Johnstone Yze Heffernan
Robertson Breese Bruce
Vardy Neitz Moorcroft
White Whelan Godfrey
Armstrong, Jolly, Green, Leoncelli

Williams, Junior, Thompson and Rogers all at Sandy.
