We need to seriously figure out a way to score goals from loose balls inside 30m.

Every time it's just a blind snap that is either spoiled on the line, or else misses. Not good enough.
their skill level and ability to break from congestion is still not the best, especially considering the Crows lack speed. Other than N.Kelly, Newman and Munyard, everyone else looks slow. Randall and Hatchard may be able to break through from sheer strength, but not speed.

Ok Hatchard and Jones ( ok has a slight excuse but Milera etc etc etc come back from major injury nowhere well over previous levels ).
How would they let Hatchard one of their highest paid players come back in that shape.
How about Biddell and Ponter as both couldn't run out of their own shadow and had turning speed of a tractor trying to get to a player or ball.
Ewings is another discussion .
Understand have to be sensitive here but they are representing a AFL Football Club.
Biddell has that body shape, thats not been a problem

Jones and Biddell were both in pretty much identical shape to always, and were among our best players. Biddell has always been a solid woman but she is in no way out of shape. Jones is as quick and snappy as ever. No issues there at all.

Ponter was disappointing, definitely. Couldn't get involved. Not sure if it's a fitness issue or not. Very concerning, her last season was poor as well.

Ewings was a known quantity when we brought her in. She's not a Crows star, she's a project player.

Hatchard is the big concern. I'd be putting her up forward for the rest of the season if it were me, and letting the likes of Goodwin, Boileau, or Newman play full-time midfield instead.

I'd play Hatchard 1 out in the square. Isolate her. She's a good contested mark.

I don’t like including individuals in this discussion for obvious reasons but I will say I have some doubts over how much work Jones has actually been able to put in due to the Achilles, she looked to struggle after halftime and from the outside looking in doesn’t look like she’s in her best shape post that injury.

Like I mentioned before with Ewings I think those at the club when they picked her up in December might have thought she would be a little more advanced at this stage then what she currently is, before the game I was ok with her playing through it but post that game I’m quite unsure when/if any benefits will be seen on-field if you play her right now.

It is an uncomfortable thing to even mention though because speculation and guess work from watching some players run around on a tv screen is totally unfair and problematic. There are a few others who do look like they’ve been totally mismanaged by S & C and look way too built up and slow which has taken away from their natural game.

I know I keep banging on about this but for the team to move forward we need to be playing as many players coming through a proper junior program as possible

The days when you could carry a player like Rachelle Martin or an older, average Irish recruit like Grace Kelly are over

And our forward line has talented players but our connection is Melbourne Mens level bad. Doesn't look like they've worked on this at all and just rely on individual brilliance rather than system

Player fitness obviously another issue

Positives of the game:
  • Newman's 45m goal on the run in the first quarter. For such a small person, she has a big kick.
  • Munyard was actually pretty good (shame about her injury)
  • Rasheed looked good. So did Boileau in the middle.

Average:
  • Noffy only laid 8 tackles. This is well below her normal numbers.
  • J.Allan should've dominated more against Ott

Bad:
  • Gould's goal kicking
  • Everyone was fumbly and just dropping easy marks under no pressure, unable to collect the ball off the ground
  • Ponter barely did anything
  • Munyard screaming in pain and the St Kilda player pointing at how she wasn't getting behind the mark

Ugly:
  • Umps calling HTB when it seemed like there was no prior, but only because there was lack of attempt
  • Umps not calling HTB when the situation is reversed and Crows are doing the tackling and St Kilda's lack of attempt
  • Umps not calling HTB when Crows tackle and dispossess St Kilda player

Jess Allan (take note, Underwood) was really disappointing. A few nice hitouts, but ineffective outside of that. Ironically she was the one player who looked noticeably trimmer than last year (at least to my eyes) but seemed slow as a wet week.

The HTB calls were infuriating, as they were always going to be. The new interpretations appear to mean "we will still pay HTB free kicks completely inconsistently, except even more so than before".

Watching Wardlaw play, I wish we had a mobile tall that could do what she did. Crows always seem to have ruck that are good at taps, but don't do much else around the ground.

Can't believe how many of Crows are nowhere near any level of sport fitness shape and least 3-4 of our stars have comeback in such poor fitness levels n.
Surely now these players getting paid quiet well it is a poor reflection of club especially those in charge.y

Terribly low standards. That players in that shape were selected is an embarrassment to the program. Understand remaining at elite fitness levels with a 6 month break wouldn’t be the easiest, but as you say, they’re getting paid pretty well these days. But it’s up to the club to demand better, no different than Port and Rioli.

The holding the ball interpretation is exactly what the "fans" (media) have been wanting for year. And of course it's terrible.

If it was consistently paid, I would still hate it, but at least would understand it.

Instead it was paid extremely inconsistently, where approximately one time in five they would suddenly decide that's HTB after a bunch of identical incidents that weren't paid.

So all that was achieved was there is now an even wider scope of situations where they can inconsistently pay it.

First game I have watched this season. Elsewhere people have commented that Hatchard is struggling a bit. I get that it isn't pc, but she has put on a lot of "condition" which would have to be impacting her game. How much fitness work do they actually do?
Jones also amongst quiet a few others Saints look fit right across team

The game reinforces exactly what I've been fearful of for a few years now. The slide is gathering momentum and as great as he's been, I'm glad Clarke is finishing as coach this season. We are continuing to roll out the same game style as we did 5 years ago, despite the league moving past it. Our players are not at the elite levels of fitness required. How some of the players can look Chelsea in the eye I will never know.
Most importantly, we need a huge influx of talent. We can't keep on playing some of the girls that haven't been effective players for a few years now (although the mens team keep doing it as well...) The allowances port were given to boost their team has decimated ours (not by accident). We need to bottom out and rebuild. The glory days were incredible and something we can be super proud of, but it's over.

obviously we aren't allowed to have certain "stats", but to my eye Biddell is unchanged from previous years but I do think Jones has had the same preseason as Hatchard

Enough people have mentioned Jones that it's made me wonder if I just didn't notice. I guess I'll have a look this weekend.

I didn't think her performance was impacted though.

EJ did look bigger in size, but she did her achilles, which means many months off your feet.
