Who are the emergencies? Goodes is still in doubt according to the news here.

I cried a little bit.

If Tommy gives the club anything like what the last two guys who played in the number 6 gave us, we will have a special player on our hands.

Although if he gives us what Dunks gave us in the midfield, we'll have another 1st round pick casualty.

Everyone needs to get off Walsh's case! Give the bloke a spell! He has played a handfull of games and done some nice things. The bloke is playing a key position which we all know is very tough. I think given time he we surprise plenty of you haters! Take a look at Pyke I bet plenty of you were writing him off after 5 or 6 games, now look at him go!
Just get right around him!

I do get your point, its just frustrating players get picked based on height rather than performance or promise, but you are right he needs time and support

He has played well in the ressies this year, same as white. He has being putting the performances in, now he just needs to show it in the AFL.

In amongst all the criticism of Walsh, I think the important point is that he's been picked ahead of White, and to be honest that really surprised me. Jesse seems to be viewed as only the backup ruckman now, where he was called up to replace Mumford. Obviously things can change over the second half of the season but I'd take this to mean the coaches see Walsh as having more chance to become an AFL player.

I wanted White in because we'll miss Reid's mobility around the ground and White can offer that. Neither of them are likely to kick a bag but neither is Reid on recent form, but Walsh is just a really weird decision and not like-for-like in any sense.

I just hope he competes and doesn't do something completely stupid.

White isn't that mobile. Maybe if he broke out of a jog every so often to get to the next contest or good spot. I don't mind Walsh in, just because of that one contest against Freo that he smashed a purple player or two. If he can do more of that, he'll be a good in.

Walsh is the sensible decision to me for a few reasons. Firstly going on what we have seen from each at senior level in the forward line, Walsh will compete harder than White will. Walsh's aggression and will to chase and run are not in question as far as I have seen it. His game against Freo, while not getting the ball much at all, showed he has improved his ability to halve contests. He wasn't getting beaten hands down by his defender or giving away silly frees which was a big problem for him last year. Not a big sample size for him, but I think the coaches would be encouraged by that.

Having Walsh in the side to play deep (and hopefully not get beaten and bring the ball to ground and whatnot) means that Goodes can stay further up the ground too. Walsh will stay deep with Pyke/Mumford and Morton I would think and Goodes can continue to roam.

In the end, I think it comes down to them not trusting Jesse as a stay at home forward and really I'm not sure how you can blame them for that given what we have seen from him. Not having a go at him but I think that's a fact now in the minds of the coaches. They certainly act in a way that affirms that suggestion.

Jesse has had more than enough chances to make it as a forward & we even gave other clubs more than enough chances to recruit him for his services in the last trading period.

They all politely declined!

If he gets the odd gig as a backup ruckman at this stage of his career, then I'm guessing he will be happy with that.

Walsh is still learning.

Richards - Ryder
Grundy - Gumbleton
Rampe - Crameri
Smith - Jetta
McVeigh - Winderlich
Malceski - Kommer

Mumford/Pyke - Bellchambers/Ryder
ROK - Watson
JPK - Hocking
Hannebery - Howlett
Bird - Goddard
Jack - Stanton
Jetta - Heppell

Walsh - Hooker
Pyke - Carlisle
Goodes - Myers
McGlynn - Baguley
Bolton - Hibberd
Morton - Fletcher

Parker - Zaharakis
Everitt - Dempsey
(Mitchell) - (Melksham)

Thoughts S120 ?

I think it will be Kommer - McVeigh and Winderlich - Malceski. Clubs still pick Malceski to be the man to curtail from our defence IMO and WInderlich at his best can be very damaging so I think they will try to keep Malceski accountable with him.

I agree with the rest. There are some brilliant match ups in that lot.

An actual quote from the preview of this game on the AFL app ...

"...the fifth placed Swans could barely be more impressive in their dismantling of Collingwood and Hawthorn in recent weeks."

These so-called 'experts' actually get paid to write this stuff. Do they actually watch footy?
