Round 11: Adelaide v Geelong

Mackie has much better disposal than David Johnson.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hunt in for Enright (Enright given away 19 frees). That's too many and Hunts kicking would be so damaging against the flooding Adelaide style.

I would also hate to see Tenace dropped, he is playing good football and is improving as he gains confidence. It is not the time to drop Tenace.

I also would like to see Selwood get his spot back for Harley. We seem to tall and he was probably our worst performer.
As much as Varcoe has been excellent in his tackling and chasing pressure, his stats show that he is not winning enough of the ball and kicking enough goals regularly... Compare his stats to Alwyn Davey. Gime him a spell this week. Selwood has to play.

Big week for Mackie. In the close losses we have had, Mack has been terrible.(Loopy handballs to opposition for goals!!) I have a feeling that he is not suited down back and goes missing when the heat is on. I will be watching closely.

I have been a bagger of DJ over a long period but his kicking is generally acceptable and he is courageous and hard at it.

Bomber should put Hunt, Mackie and DJ in a circle and whoever comes out with the nut gets the last spot in the backline come finals. It is vital.

no, he should give it to Mackie, who's been very good for us.

OH MY GOD!

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DROP MACKIE? How the hell can you say he has had a good year but you are not convinced?

AND WHY OMIT HARLEY FOR TWO NON-KEY POSITION PLAYERS? WHAT THE HELL?

Yes, I am alcohol affected, but I think my beer hazed mind is clearer than your sober one.

I would have no problem giving mackie a rest or a trip back to the twos after his prefomance on sunday i watched him make mistake after mistake.he plays risky football looks good when he pulls it off but looks stupid when he doesnt. that said he always seems to play well in SA.

Who gives a shit about Alwyn Davey's stats? He's a flash in the pan, a Sheedy special. Selection should be based on the contribution that a player makes to the team, not on some spreadsheet exercise.

At the game on Sunday night I looked up at the scoreboard just after Trav kicked a goal in the last quarter and noticed that he had had only 7 or 8 posessions. I commented at the time to my brother that I couldn't believe that he had not racked up more - he was certainly in the game for the full four quarters, and contributed to the forward line pressure that kept the ball in our forward 50 for extended periods.

Selwood is a gun, but not as quick as Varcoe, and won't play the same role. I anticipate a high pressure game on Sunday, and forward line pressure will be a telling factor. For that reason, Varcoe and Stokes should stay. Selwood to come in if we have any sore midfielders.

Harley won't get dropped but should for this week Adelaide don't have big forwards, so J Hunt left foot would be great to have in this game.

Is anyone esle sick off people saying "this will test us" "where up against it this week" Bullshit we are the goods we have shown what we are able to do now all we have to do is turn up bring our A game and we win Nothing will stand in our way except us.

Fact is it's going to be like that all year. As Geelong supporters we can't complain, we've underachieved for so long it'll take a long time for the football public to be convinced. Nothing wrong with that.

Doesn't matter really, as long as the team stays switched on (which they seem to be) that's the main thing.

...you haven't followed the cats for long, have you?

I thought he was kicking 1 or 2 a game which is what the coaching panel would want out of him.

Mackie - Too light for a defender. Has trouble spoiling, can't break tackles / lack of leg strength, poor tackler again due to strength or lack of, poor disposal and not the best tank.

DJ - Can tag, much harder at the ball, better disposal, much better tackler, no chip on shoulder.

Just off the top of the head.
Agree only to the extent that Mackie is too light. He's a quality kick of the ball when not under pressure, and his pressure kicking will improve. Spoiling isn't too bad, I think, considering his lack of experience as a defender, he'll only get better.

Also: do we need three taggers? Having that many is far too negative, IMO. Ling and Rooke can do the job, bring DJ in if one is injured.

No changes necessary. I’d like to see Harley out for Hunt but it won’t happen. Mackie is fine, as is Tenace, Varcoe and Enright – who has even started taking some good contested marks of late.

Agree

As to tagging - Ling will go to Goodwin, Rooke will play defensive forward on McLeod, and the rest will play as per usual.......

As to those calling for Mackie to be dropped - lol - he plays an "average" game (as in not crap and not great) on Sunday and you want his head. He got caught once or twice, but his decisions under pressure and abiliity to find someone to advantage coming out of defence were still very good. Funny stuff.

If anyone was to go out it would have to be Enright, and even though his marking is good and especially pushing back to help in a contest - the frees against, the woeful kicking and over the last couple of weeks the handballing also is becoming a detriment to the team.

In all honesty though I do not see him being dropped and we have enough of others like Mackie to cover for his deficiencies.

With Chappy back, abletts, sj, moons and resting ottens that forward line is looking pretty good.

Not saying Varcoe isn't contributing shags, but the dilemma will be can he maintain his spot in that best 6/7.. Good luck to him if he can.

We were possibly going over for this match and were wondering if you can buy tickets to sit with or near the Geelong cheer squad....do they have buses going over for this one?

Could it be that when Wojo is playing well Mackie has a quieter game and vice versa? It could depend on who needs to be more accountable on their man, or whether their run is getting blocked by the opposition as other teams become aware of how creative both players can be. Enright falls into this category as well, gives us plenty of options to bring the ball out of the backline..

It will be an interesting game to say the least, we have to lose one soon but i have a funny feeling that it may not be this w/end.It may well be to borrow a cliche out of Terry Wallaces quote book 'a clutch game' (forgive me if my wording is wrong :D).We have already won one interstate game this yr if we can get another one marked down (although the eags & freo will be hard anyway) it will be a big bonus by seasons end if we can win 50+ % interstate and our season stays on a positive.I'm sure that we all agree that Adelaide will try and nulify our corridor game plan with tempo footy crows style.
They may well try and take us on at our own game as they to have class midfeilders and an adaptable defence very similar to the cats, it may well come down to scoreboard pressure.I think this is where it'll come back to our onballers & backmen providing other scoring options like they have up until now because it could be a low scoring game if the cows want to play it that way.

And hope Roo does'nt get back to his best after one game....

Call Bass. I was able to buy tickets in the cheer squad about a week ago but i'm not sure what the capacity is like over there. From memory they stick you in a small section to the right of the goals. Not sure about a bus as i am flying over.

Good luck.

Thanks, i'm not sure if we're going or not anyway......might plan it for next season.

I've a feeling the Crows will come out with all-out attacking footy and will be breathing fire. Most will insist that Adelaide cannot match the Cats in a shootout but people too quickly forget the destroyations Adelaide orchestrated last year. Don't be surprised if the Crows do try to open things up.

I was thinking the same thing.......we beat Freo by 66 then the next game Adelaide just smashed us completely, it was like the Collingwood match..

I assure you no-one here is under-estimating the Crows ability to win matches, especially at home. I just hope those lads of yours are fit enough to run up and down the park for 4 quarters because we are going test it to the extreme and the moment your lads ease off for just a moment we will pile on the goals before you can even catch your breath....it's a new world order my friend

If the right Adelaide outfit shows up, I'd suggest we'd be the ones getting our fitness tested. Not so much because I think we're unfit (anything but), but because I don't think we've been tested up to date to the level that Adelaide potentially could.

As for changes, I can't foresee any taking place (under the old 'ain't broke don't fix it mantra'). If anything though, would like to see Selwood come back in to boost the midfield stocks. His own game will suit that of Sunday's.

What, West Coast are an unfit level???
Surely you jest that we have not been 'tested'??
Is that you Mike Sheehan??
On form, we will take this by 4 goals.
No offence, but the Crows are missing too many Key Players, and Roo is not 100% yet - thank god. He could make the difference, but after one game back i cant see it happening. Look at Chapman after only missing four games, not the whole start of the season - very quiet by his standards last week.
Looking forward to a great contest, assuming the flood can be countered by Geelong, but will make for very interesting viewing......

Never suggested WC were "unift", simply that we weren't tested to an extreme level in that game with their running. They didn't push us nearly as hard as they potentially could have (as can Adelaide) in that game.
