Darling was being held and wrestled all day and the umpires ignored it all day, based on that, to any claims of umpire bias towards us I call BS.Other than the free kick against Darling for a push on Roberton when he took the mark in the 3rd I don't recall any other out and out shockers (I'm sure there is probably some - I just can't remember them now).
i know the Saint supporting commentator want us to believe that was a drop kick, but please, if a player is well tackled then drops the ball onto the ground, it is holding the ball every time. The fact that his foot then brushed the ball after it hit the ground does not mean it was a drop kick (as Spud tried to talk everyone, including himself, into thinking!)However there were several 50/50 calls that could have gone either way and to be honest, on balance we ended up on the better side of those and by some margin. For example there was a period of a couple of minutes in the 1st quarter where we had at least 3 maybe 4 of our players tackled as they were about to dispose of the ball but they weren't pinged despite having had prior opportunity - that was the way the umpires seemed to interpret it this weekend but we would have no grounds for complaint if any of those were given. Then in the last quarter a saints player was pinged in an almost identical situation although it did appear he got his foot to the ball - just.
Butler smothered the ball off the boot, was immediately tackled, and you think that was holding the ball? Really? The Saad holding the ball near the end was probably there but then Butler was extremely lucky not to have been pinged in the goal square after his smother.
He was actually in the process of diving for the ball when the Saints player kicked it, maybe it should have been kicking in danger?
