5. Richards - Absolutely super human effort in defense that won us the game.
4. Jetta
3. Bolton
2. Grundy
1. Shaw

YPOTY - Johnson

Armstrong, Shaw and Hannebery were stiff to miss votes considering Hanners played only a little over a half. His shutting down of Stanton was vital and once Hanners was subbed Stanton lifted considerably!

thats because McVeigh went on him

McVeigh and Hannebery tag-teamed most of the night. McVeigh did a good job before Stanton lifted.
One of my concerns in the last was that we had no players on our offensive side of the centre ball -ups and there were 11 of them, a most of them McVeigh was standing on their side leaving Stanton on his own and they were clearing it out all the time and thats why they got back in the game.

Yeh they really went into their shells in the last quarter. It was maddening. We lost the clearances and contested ball all night though. Just finally Essendon's forward half woke up and kicked straight and our defence couldn't cope with that pressure after being so good for the first 3 quarters.

Losing perhaps our best runner in Hannebery didn't help either might I add.
Very true and he let them know on the bench that he wasn't happy being subbed, Had to love him when the siren sounded as he was straight to all the guys congratulating them. Make him and Jack the next skippers

Yeh that was indicative of the kind of guy we have in Hannebery. We've got a very strong bunch of young leaders with Hannebery, Jack, Parker, Bird, Smith, Kennedy (in a different way to the first few).

I'd go with Jack and Dan too out of that lot if we are to continue with co-captains.

I think Hannebery sulks a bit because he takes all of this so seriously and really wants to win. In fact I don't even think it's sulking in the same way that Goodes has done before. Hanners doesn't whinge at the umpires, he does seem to find it hard to hide disappointment when we don't perform well. Not a horrible quality though, it shows this club really means something to him.
