Well, I'm really excited this week that the WAFL is back - I've had to spend the last 2 weekends in the garden! Bit of a strange round this one with the Sunday game (looking very wet....) between Claremont and Swans.

Subi v East Freo - looks a bit of a yawn this one but we get to see a host of AFL players for the Sharks against the well oiled machine that is Subi. Veterans McManus and Carr on one hand and Chick and Read on the other. Then there is the younger guys on AFL lists and ones looking to be picked up like Dennis-Lane, Cockie, Anthony to show their wares.

Peel v Souths - at the big country oval this could be an interesting match. Souths have been a bit patchy in the last couple after putting it all together 3 rounds ago and looking a very good running side against Swans. You would think Peel aren't much show, without Schofield and Ebert in particular. Still plenty of AFL players in the Bulldogs ranks and they lose Murphy but regain Graham.

Perth v East Perth - should be a comfortable win to Perth, who are travelling as good as they have for the past 28 years. Butler out shouldn't be too significant because he wasn't playing much whilst they were winning early and they had 3 of the best 5 players named in the state game. Siekerka's having a great year, along with chooka Zucconi and K-T. Scott Selwood may be back for this one and Sullivan is developing in the ruck and providing contest. East Perth will have to play out of their skins in this one, but they do like beating the demons.

Claremont v Swans - should be a very even contest with 2 pretty young sides going around. Davis staying in the Eagles leaves a bit of a void at half back, but hopefully Hinkley can fill this. Richardson up forward needs to be accounted for and Mackenzie rebounding out of defence could be good to see. Thomson will probably be given another tagging role on Lange after he did it successfully first time around. Garlett needs to light up the wings for Swans and Big Red should be at FF? with Notte playing the half forward role. These last 2, with Wilkes out, are probably the hardest for the tiges to match up, although Mackenzie will possibly go to Notte. Ruck in the ruck should be hard to match up on (after Naita our rucks are a little average, shall I say) unless we play Ames in the centre. Then there may be AJ to match up on, if he's back this week? He could be the critical part to the equation for Claremont in this match because I don't see a lot of difference in experience for the 2 teams.

Just wondering what you think of Anthony for easts Chrsco...

I spend a lot of time watching and at Perth, and according to some within the club, they reckon 4 or more might be looking at AFL next year.

But what I've seen of Anthony, well, I reckon he has been great. Great running ability, tall, and good with the clearances, has a lot of potential. Would be a serious contender for Freo IMO. Has really outshone the AFL guys already down there.

Quite a fan of Anthony's, I am. I posted on the drafts and trading board, someone was asking about mature age SANFL/VFL/WAFL players and he's certainly 1 I would think is worth looking at.

4 from Perth would be? Siekerka, Zucconi, Thornton might come back into calculations, Kayler-Thomson? Don't think K-T will because didn't Geelong have a look at him last year? Just think his opportunity might have gone. Of those Siekerka has to be given a go and I reckon Thornton should be given another chance. Still only 20/21 isn't he?

Well, I did say that East Perth like to beat the demons. Good game, great crowd (I know it was Junior Parade Day) and lots of activities for the kids, well down Perth Footy Club.

Today's game

Claremont vs Swan Districts at Claremont Oval

Bye: West Perth

Any East Freo supporters out there that can give me an idea of how big Griffo (Michael Griffths) is playing at the moment. By the looks of it he's a bit down on form compared to last year.

Thanks LMSC, pity you didn't get Yarran's second quarter goal.

Ripping match of football in the wet at Claremont with most not able to make the goals from 25m out to the Freo end goals. Until the wind died in the last quarter of course.

Wasn't pleasantly surprised to see Naitanui, Yarran and deBoer lining up in this match.

It's amazing how footy can change within 12 months.

As part of an excellent 2007 Griffiths dominated against Perth at East Fremantle Oval but a few weeks ago showed how frustrated he was with his much lower form by thuggishly belting Perth's backup ruckman Luke Nugent behind the play as soon as he had started his first stint on the ground.

Of course nothing was done about it.

Selwood (twice) and former WCE rookie Ash Thornton have also been felled behind play this season.

None of these players (especially not Nugent) are the type to provoke their opponents.

Thanks Mate... not really the response I was after but better than nothing.... and harden up buddy, obviously haven't played much footy in your time!

Rubbish.

Every game I go to I am annoyed by the netball like frees paid - for and against.

The incidents I am referring to were:

- An illegal shepherd (Humm on Selwood)

- Wilkes running up to Thornton from about 30 metres away and hitting him from behind while the ball was at the other end of the ground

- Warnock thumping Selwood for no reason

- your mate Griffiths belting Nugent for no reason other than frustration at the score

None of these incidents are part of the true toughness of football which I enjoy but cringe at the demise of due to the soft new rules and soft new rule interpretations.
