Autopsy Round 13, 2026: Hawks get leashed

Can Dimma please ALWAYS start down back. Let him get into the rhythm of the game and then move him forward. Even to the extent of surprise position changes during the game, swap him in and out.
Start him forward and he struggles to settle but most importantly opposition defenders set up against him.

But he does kick 3 or 4 goals most games.

You can say the exact same about any player “take away cam mackenzies disposals and he’s a net negative one trick poney”

Ben king kicks goals accurately which no one in this team current does apart from Watson.

If only we had 4 free kicks in the goal square....

Ginni's last kick to Moore an absolute stinker.
14 secs on the clock and he takes the short dinky option. Turnover. Game over.

He worked his arse off, but a lot of his disposal killed us.
Agree he was horrible last night. He pretty much turned it over with every opportunity he got

Had some time to cool off and rewatched the game. I thought I'd post some thoughts here.

  • Our backline really struggled defending ground balls deep again. There was inexperience with selection, but it's the same when our starters are there. It's why opponents are scoring so accurately.
  • Hardwick forward is a great weapon in games, but can be ineffective when the opposition plan for it. Happened last year too.
  • Lewis getting injured really hurt us. Couldn't use his mobility to challenge and prevented us from rucking Chol.
  • The carry on about Sicily and Watson is perplexing, but I do wish they didn't do the stupid stuff. Watson put down the gauntlet then didn't touch it. Sicily miming his opponent's celebration was weird. Don't need to do it.
  • Meek and Reeves actually did rather well nullifying English for most of the match. Meek would have had a really good game if he kicked straight.
  • Midfielders struggled defensively to halt momentum in the second half. We missed Nash.
  • Our inaccuracy is no longer unlucky but a trend, especially at the MCG. Needs to be sorted out.
  • Our delivery into the 50 was shockingly bad, but we're normally one of the best teams at converting scores per inside 50. We need to think of better strategies to counter the flood, but the horrific nature of our delivery is more likely to be an anomaly than other trends.
  • This loss wasn't on our supporting players, but they were all down on their contributions from previous weeks.
The controversial one. I grow increasingly convinced that Moore, Ginnivan and CMac are less than the sum of their parts.
All of them play their best football pushing up to stoppage and lack legspeed to genuinely pressure.
Well done for rewatching not sure I could. I’ve been saying that for a while on the small forwards those 3 in my mind are too similar. I think we lack a defensive forward which maybe the reason for Max Beattie.

Its quite interesting reading some of the reactions in this thread. I haven't read all of it because a lot of it was repetitive.

Sicily I thought was great. The same reasons u r complaining about were the reasons we led by nearly 5 goals in the first half. It built the energy around us.

The antics of Sic and wiz werent the reason we lost the game. There was plenty of lip from both sides. Including bont who got into newk when he got him holding the ball. We lost it going inside 50 and kicking for goal. No other reasons. We had players open everywhere but that last kick inside 50 let us down I would say for the entire game.

It was eerily similar to the Collingwood game. Which is the concern and guess what Gunston Nash and Barrass played in that game. Execution by foot and our goal kicking were the reasons we lost. Talking about Sicily and the way he behaved I will just say this when Sic is playing in that manner he plays his best football. He was rarely beaten and some of his kicks were the Sicily of old
Couldn't agree more, our goal kicking accuracy was well below average. Had we kicked at even 50% accuracy, people would've been celebrating the antics on the back of a win.

+17 inside 50’s.
+77 disposals
+14 contested possessions
+77 uncontested possessions
+41 marks
+5 marks inside 50
+5 contested marks
-1 centre clearances(even)

1.11 in a half. That’s the game.

I’m surprised there is so much anger in so many posts. Frustration yes…anger no. The boys turned up and put up numbers that stacked up. These sort of games happen from time to time. Cue 2012 GF.

We are kicking for goal at roughly the same accuracy that Shaq used to shoot free throws!

It's called fear.
He’s on track for a 60+ goal year and with our run home he could definitely aim even higher.

I think it’s pretty clear that a lot of opposition supporters care more about us being bad than their team being good.

Winners are grinners but the media has represented hawthorn as getting distracted by pile ons

Same on SEN crunch time then Rory lobb interviewed said bevo deliberately challenged Sicily and Watson opponents to take it up to them

OK they got sucked in but to completely talk about it as a hawthorn thing is disingenuous

Will teams start using the Hack-a-hawk (Hack-a-shaq) technique, giving away free kicks, knowing we are likely to miss our set shots on goal?

In all seriousness, there's nothing more frustrating than wayward kicking. Especially when the team works so hard to get those shots on goal. It can be so deflating.

Scary Movie tie-in that the club forgot to clue the fans in on?
It’s almost at the stage where teams could adopt a “hack a shaq” type strategy against the hawks.

Let us take a set shot and miss then transition down the ground from the kick in and score a goal.

Saw that exact scenario happen multiple times last night!

They never help us, we should stop helping them. Start with Ginni cutting off or severely cutting back on he's podcast with Tom Mitchell. Sam Mitchell should stop fronting up for the network shows aswell, why help them when they do the opposite to us?

It’s massively deflating.

When Meek missed that absolute gimee goal down the punt road end and then the ball went straight back down the other end and English kicked a goal you could just feel the frustration.

Lots of comments on here about Sicily's carry on. I reckon it has merrit, but for those that have played football at a higher level than me (so literally everyone) is it actually an issue inside the four walls of a football club?

Standing up for yourself and your teammates, no. But something like him just fist pumping the Bulldogs goal for a laugh and probably focusing more on having a fraca than playing the game, yeah you want your teammate to settle down a bit.

But the biggest problem is how it's being umpired. You can pick out plenty of frees that were going on.

Theres flying the flag, then theres getting involved in scraps and getting distracted from the game, and it happens every time things dont go his way.

His AA year everyone lauded his turnaround in maturity. But his AA year is also the only time he had things go his way.

He pointed someone out for calling him a weak c? Bloody hell talk about soft.

Really? Do you think that’s totally OK for some random supporter to say to a player over the fence?

You might need to self reflect.
