Autopsy Round 13, 2026: Hawks get leashed

I think when you are performing your job in a way that involves trying to “tough guy rough up” your fellow coworkers/competitors then you should have a certain amount of backbone to be able to handle some opposition supporter words like that
So does Sicily and Wiz deserve to call called that then?

I can’t have it.

We are observers, we don’t have any right to personally attack a player over the fence.

Sicily doesnt have a leadership bone in his body.

They scored 77
We scored 71

That’s the game.

Expected scores mean “jack”.

You can have all the footy you want, and all the inside 50s and shots you want.

If you don’t convert them - as Sam says “we didn’t finish off our work”- you lose.
You still don't get this, do you?
Why not just ignore any post talking about expected scores or related stats?

Some people understand that it doesn't mean we deserve to win any more than the other team - if we win games where the oppo plays better across the other stats (as we have plenty of times), it is still an interesting stat.

Watson provokes the hatred he gets from the masses IMO. Him running right up to the opposition cheer squad & giving them the finger has become a common occurrence. One of many examples. It’s also envy from non-Hawk fans because he is so damaging / his bursts swing momentum our way & he gets the reaction from supporters/media alike.

I know I’ll probs cop it for saying this.. I’d rather he toned his antics right down & let his footy do the talking. It’s always been the Hawthorn way.
Nah. This hatred has been there from day 1. Its gone to another level this year though

The game itself is a spectator sport. It involves cheering, clapping, booing… villains and heroes. Team and opponents. It’s not a normal workplace.

There are a bundle of things that should never be said over the fence and we know what they are… but in a physical sport involving antagonism, tough guy chest puffing and physical intimidation, and likely the same words we’re talking about being exchanged by the players, then soft this and weak that is pretty much bog standard type of stuff that should be water off a ducks back for players, especially those out there carrying on like pork chops

Tucky's comment was interesting after the game. Said he thinks they think they are better than they are.
I don’t disagree with him. We thought we’d won it in Q2 the way we were carrying on. Tuck also said something along the lines of ‘kicking goals is what footy is all about’ which we failed at. Such a simple but correct assessment of yesterday’s game.

He's fighting on the wing for over a minute in the third with an idiot who doesn't know how to play football...whilst his team is running into... I would say some trouble. It takes leadership to say I'm not going to get into this rubbish and concentrate on winning the game and showing the rest of the team...I'm here to take this game back on our terms.

The interesting part is in the opposition expected score if it is lower than their actual, we made them kick goals from more difficult angles and positions than the scoreline would suggest. But some people struggle with logic.

Someone who gets it.
But those in sicily camp will dig their heels in.

When sicily concentrates on the game, hes a good footballer, a very good footballer in fact. Doesnt happen anywhere near enough now

No mate, just no. Especially after the game over the fence.

The players might do it in the heat of the battle or while they are suited up against each other, but if any of them said something like that to each other after the game there would be an all in brawl.

Supporters doing it over the fence after a game is a complete no go zone, and the perpetrator knew this when he disappeared as soon as Selwood turned around.

He’s wrestling on the ground with an opponent who won’t let him get up, for maybe a minute, and this somehow scrubs everything else he does for the game.

Would he do that again if he had his time again? Probably not, but to suggest that he doesn’t have an ounce of leadership in his body is pure unadulterated bullshit, from a serial offender of bullshit.

Not on the same page as you here sorry mate. Not even saying I’d do it, and I’d be more concerned I’d look like a goose in front of a mum n dad with kids around, but in a combative sport that has been played almost a little spitefully as a direct result of said players actions, I think it’s a little brittle of him to even acknowledge it

If Lewis wasn’t letting him get up, how wouldn’t he do it if he had his time again?

I thought the Day goal celebration was over the top.
Appreciate it was Daisy but stay in the game.

The good thing is lessons come from losing so hopefully the team become more focussed for the second half of the season.

He’d stop fighting it, tell him I’m just trying to get up, maybe even play dead… but there are ways that he could have disengaged from it even if he wasn’t being let go of.

I thought the Day goal celebration was fantastic - he’s had a very tough, frustrating & unlucky few years (not news to anyone, I know) so that celebration was special & the type of thing that should’ve spurred the boys on. Plus, he missed his shot at goal last week so he would’ve wanted to put one through this week.

Saw Tuck interviewed post game. 'We think we're better than we are'.
Hard to argue with it. Giving up sizeable leads and letting in big runs of consecutive goals even in the games we win smacks of a 'rest of the game will take care of itself' mindset.
