9 players fined for 10 incidents by the MRO.

  • Nick Watson
  • Blake Hardwick
  • James Sicily
  • Mabior Chol
  • Jack Ginnivan - for starting a melee

Bulldogs

  • Lobb
  • Lewis
  • Coffield
  • Sellwood - 2 fines. 1 for starting a melee.

Clearly shows the Bulldawgs tactics of fighting players (Sellwood and Lewis on Watson & Sicily) rather than play football.

It worked.

The game itself is a spectator sport. It involves cheering, clapping, booing… villains and heroes. Team and opponents. It’s not a normal workplace.

There are a bundle of things that should never be said over the fence and we know what they are… but in a physical sport involving antagonism, tough guy chest puffing and physical intimidation, and likely the same words we’re talking about being exchanged by the players, then soft this and weak that is pretty much bog standard type of stuff that should be water off a ducks back for players, especially those out there carrying on like pork chops
It has become a pantomime.
The virtuous victor, whoever wins and a laconic loser, add in an umpire who is a common enemy or in some cases an unlikely friend and some court jesters and troubadours and you have yourself a pantomime.
The AFLs ultimate goal is entertainment, not a sport that’s for the amateurs, that they put a price on it to watch, then take our money and throw in some advertising that we have to also endure.
Then rule over it with a nepotistic group of narcissists to ensure its profitability.

Is it just me or did it seem like every mark we took moving forward of centre, the Dogs held us up with a hold of the arms / jumper / laid on top etc.

No 50m penalties awarded…

Thought the rule was that players couldn’t be inhibited on the mark with those actions, so as keep the game more free-flowing…

Probably need to look at the replay but that’s certainly how it felt on the night.

I thought the Day goal celebration was over the top.
Appreciate it was Daisy but stay in the game.

The good thing is lessons come from losing so hopefully the team become more focussed for the second half of the season.
Na Will was trying to lift everyone with it haha. Not he's fault the boys couldn't follow suit.

Bevo will pay for it himself and Sellwood gets free lunch for a month and Lewis free lunch for a year.

1. We get forced to take shots outside 45m or on difficult angles due to the flooding of our forward line in the 2nd half
2. When we do get an easy shot - ie Meek holding the ball free right in front of goal - there’s so much pressure on the kick because we’ve only kicked one goal for the half and therefore he misses
Rubbish
Meek missed three set shots because of poor technique not pressure

Did you see the 50 to Petracca today
Identical to several not given last night

Every week. Surely the club has asked wtf is going on.

Forward line without Gunston is our biggest issue. Chol or M Lewis needs to start kicking 6-7 goals between them specially when Gunston is not playing or we need to find way to get Dear in forward line.

Liked idea of Meek in forward line, he can take big pack marks. Hope his kicking is improved.

Nairn looks like a solid player. Good defensive running and overhead.

Also, Sicily is not problem, had a good game yesterday.

We also lost this game at defensive stoppages, I don’t know stats but seemed like they kicked quite a few from them
Don’t know about defensive half stoppages specifically but they did kick 8.3 from all stoppages.

Only 26 points didn’t come from a stoppage.

It was a good tactic, get VFL Players to mentally put off stars of the game, we fell for it, good play dogs, they got Watson, Sicily, Chol, Hardwick thinking about hitting their opponent over playing footy, they got played like a fiddle, no discipline from them, they got our players playing on their terms wrestling, sniping ect, meanwhile they played footy and laughed at our lack of control

Hawthorn are going to be a bloody good football team. Scilly is not as indispensable are we thought he might have been. Gunston needs to be replaced. And then there is the core of this team who are mostly 23yo or under. We are relying on a 21yo to light us up. Half our midfield - Ward and McKenzie - are 22yo.

The Bulldogs flooded like they were playing Essendon in 2000 and we should have beat them anyway.

I firmly believe Hawthorns biggest issue is they cannot physically impose themselves on a contest when required - and that means everyone physically impose themselves, not just Newk and a handful of others.

And that is because for all the talent Hawthorn is a still a very young and very inexperienced and very immature football team.

It will happen. It is happening. Enjoy the ride.

I was at the game and I thought Sic was pretty good as well.

Yes he lost his cool a few times but he didnt give away any free kicks and being at the game you realise how strong he is, he laid some massive tackles. Also his handballing was not bad either I thought.

With someone like Sic you have to take the good with the bad, he plays on the edge like Toby Greene and sometimes that tips over.

For me Gunners is our most important player right now, when he is missing the forward line looks dysfunctional. When he goes he's going to be hard to replace as not only does he kick his regulation 4 to 5 goals a game he's also directing other players where to run to and hitting up with a couple of goal assists as well.

I agree that Meek could.be a weapon down forward, we just need his goal kicking to improve about 1000%!

I'm not sure what is going wrong with that as last year he was actually a pretty solid set shot for goal. His kicking is actually very technically sound, it must be between the ears (as usual with these things).

Nairn looks like a player, I noticed he covered a lot of ground. Needs a solid pre season or two to build up his core strength and he will be even better.

We're half a game better than we were after 13 games last year
I still think we are a chance this year. I think of the current top four teams we are by far the one with the most improvement in us. But gees it's frustrating that we are not already comfortably ensconced in the top three just because we blew up the Pies and Dogs games with our dire conversion rate. I'm hoping that Friday nights horror show coming just before the bye so it dwells in the player's minds serves as a spur for the rest of the season. If the players are as angry with losing that as we supporters are then it just might be the making of us - if it doesn't end up costing us the double-chance.

Lots of comments on here about Sicily's carry on. I reckon it has merrit, but for those that have played football at a higher level than me (so literally everyone) is it actually an issue inside the four walls of a football club?
It doesn't matter what level you play, if the skipper has the self control of a toddler it has a negitive effect on any team.

The fact oppo teams are so obviously targeting him knowing he is vulnerable to it gives them an advantage we could live without.

Dogs did a good job nullifying Watson after half time, but not sure ive seen so much circle jerking over holding someone to 3 goals. Their supporters must have some low bars set.
Reminds me of the times when Buddy would get beaten. Or when he would beat himself with terrible goalkicking.
