You really think they’ll drop Marshall and Ryder?
Maybe Roma omitted if he’s unfit, but not a chance they’re both dropped.
Of course they won't but that doesn't change the fact that both Ryder and Marshall are both playing very poorly.

So its either form - in which case they should be dropped or they are playing injured in which case they shouldn't be playing.

But they'll probably stick with the same set up that yet again put in the half a***sed effort we saw on Friday night.

Whats that definition of insanity again - the one about doing exactly the same thing but expecting a different outcome.

Change it up, give them a kick up the .......

We also need to pick the side that gives us the best chance to win. Omitting both rucks and putting in an inferior player doesnt do that.

All it does it make us less competitive, make it harder to bounce back and give more fodder to complain about next week.

They’ll change some things up - they have to.
Marshall is clearly injured, they need to rest him.
Never thought it would come so soon, but maybe the end is coming quicker than we thought for Paddy. Nevertheless, he’s a big body in the ruck and is scoring goals - he shouldn’t and won’t be dropped.

I can’t believe there won’t be changes. Steele, DMac and possibly Windy and Owens will be back. Midfield needs a lot of help.

Swans off their own disappointment. Paddy to 3rd man up all day on King, with 0 followup from our boys. Franklin kicks 5.

Forward line needs play like one. Not king alone or Higgins runnings back into the 70meters of space because we apparently need 17 players to achieve anything in the back half

Id like to see Sinclair go into the middle and play Hunter in his role.

Problem is that Sinclair is elite across HBF and in AA form there. Hunter has never been close to that type of form across 4 quarters even if he is good in flashes. And just right now he is neither fully fit, or match conditioned.

Sinclair is exceptional at both defence and offense. Losing him across HB will hurt us.

I think Membrey plays his best footy deep at FF and I would put him back there and move Max up to HF which would require him to move around more, as he is a witches hat for parts of games at the moment. Roma has a bad leg and needs to have rest. Bring in Windy in the midfield and and Joyce will have to come in possibly at CHB and run Battle in the ruck with Paddy, maybe even Sharman comes in so we can get that forward half working.

Or is a full Campbell better than an eighth of a Marshall?

Or a Ryder who is a little bit off the boil.

The problem is that Marshall is injured so CAN"T play first ruck so they can't give Ryder a rest and then play two lumbering big men (cos that's what Marshall is at the moment) in Marshall and Campbell.

Campbell has played one game this year, played 50 % of game time and yet still managed to still get his hands on the ball about as much as Ryder or Marshall.

Play Campbell as the main ruck and pinch hit with Dougal, Darragh Joyce or Battle (Its Ladhams and Sam Reid ffs) and load up on mids.

The problem is the selection panel believes we need two ruckmen (even if they are unfit or underperforming) so they select two ruckmen.

Ratten starting to look very boring. Membrey to the back half woo hoo (and people canned Richo!!)

Yes, very boring to selection from the coaches to try and get a finals spot by selecting our best players in each position. They should have been throwing the magnets around for the sake of it rather than doing what has been getting us wins so far this year.

Problem is Sinclair being elite at half back doesn't help much when the ball is sailing over his head. Whether it's him or someone else we need to find someone other than just Jack Steele to stop the rot in there. Sinclair is just the most obvious pick being our next best player and capable of playing midfeild.

Fixed it for you. Its a very easy argument to make that X is better than Y when you never try Y.

Marshall's playing as a FORWARD/second ruck but Ryder is still managing to be as big or even bigger offensive threat because of his better mobility.

I was taking the p** a bit originally but I think the answer may be to rest Marshall for a couple of weeks and play Campbell as ruck and Ryder as second ruck/forward. Unless the issue with Marshall is that a couple of weeks rest won't fix his foot and they are just playing him and hoping he doesn't break down completely.

The way its looking ATM is that if we do make it to the finals, there's a fair chance Marshall won't be playing because he's had to have surgery because we played him too much when he is clearly injured.

The obvious one is RoMa to come out you'd think but then what?, rock and a hard place with regards to RoMas position. Ratts has set the standard with the Billings dropping however he unloaded on the whole playing group which just happened to be arguably the best team on paper we had fielded all year. And this week we add Steele to that list so does Ratts roll the dice and make minimal changes and challenge this supposed "best team on paper" to justify his continued faith for one more week?

In: Steele, DMac, Highmore
Out: Byrnes, NWM, Paton

B: Webster, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Sinclair, Battle, Highmore
C: Hill, Ross, McKenzie
HF: Billings, Membrey, Gresham
F: Higgins, King, Marshall
R: Ryder, Steele, Crouch
Int: Jones, Long, Clark, Butler

NWM goes back to VFL, lifted in the third but some of his efforts defensively in the first half were shocking. DMac returns but I’d also love to see Hill given another chance on the wing with him, looked dangerous forward of centre earlier this year.

Ronnie was a complete passenger last night unfortunately, Steele back in. Have Paton out for Highmore, makes our defence pretty tall however with Jimmy/Sincs/Long we should have enough balance to cover their smalls. Highmore and Battle should give us some real intercept ability, would be a treat to see Ratts give them the chance in the same back 6.

Hoping Sharman returns after another strong VFL showing later today however structure wise another tall forward could be a risk vs Sydney, some interesting selection calls coming up.
Clarke come out before Byrnes.

Sharman needs to play and make paddy account just like he did with steward

Replacing players with underperformers won’t fix a thing. Windy was dropped because he was out of form and had barely touched the footy since the Geelong game. Good to see he got a bit of it yesterday in the VFL but please don’t rush him back. He is a kid and needs some time to develop. Sharman might get a run against the Swans for team balance, but he was underwhelming in the block of games he played before getting dropped. If selected he really needs to have more of an impact. Would love to see Highmore get a run but not sure it will happen.

Perfect time to get a couple of hard nuts back in Steele and McKenzie. With so many underperformers on Friday night a number of players should be very nervous. But Billings should not be one of them. He was far from disgraced on Friday and there were plenty worse than him.

Then maybe they can’t afford to double or triple team max every time either.
Just for once I would like to see us go “ I’m about to kick it to max but max has 3 on him , so that means membrey is standing there by himself- ok I ll kick it to him instead “
We play such dumb footy sometimes.
I watched the bulldogs forwards leading towards the player coming at him all night last night.
Would be nice if we could do that occasionally.

outs - butler, long, ryder or marshall (whoever needs the rest more), byrnes (we should give him a decent run soon though)

clarke struggled with the speed of the game, but maybe it will help to give him another run

paton didn't get near it but may have been doing a job defensively idk

ins - dmac, windy, campbell, steele, sharman

If Steele and Marshall play our midfield actually matches up well with Sydney. Both sides out of form. Tough game. They deserve to be favourites but I’m not discounting a win here.

Outs. Byrnes I get back to that. Maybe long. Butler certain. Patton probably but only if long plays and goes back. Clark also a chance but I’d trust him to come good. First game in a long while and will be helped by Steele returning. Milera a real chance also. Has he even played a seconds game? Don’t think it would hurt him. Matter of fact it really should help him. Don’t play as wide. Get close to the action.

Ins Steele Sharman McKenzie. Wood doesn’t deserve a game after his performance yesterday. I don’t care if he was upset. Prove the coaches wrong. Winganger a slight chance. Owen a big chance.

That game had more room than in my 4 bedroom 3 family room home with me on my my own. There is simply no room in our forward line because our mids don’t get it in quick enough. Footy is simple without an opposition. Watch the saints train and they go to different forwards all the time because it’s nearly one on one footy. The reality though is in a game it’s team defence and unless you are either a brilliant kick or a midfield that can use it quickly it’s nearly impossible to pick out one player. Doesn’t help that none of the 3 talls we have are natural leading forwards.

And the other thing is max doesn’t have 3 on him when our player has the ball. That is far from reality. He does have 3 on him when the ball finally gets to him.

Putting Membrey back helps us stem the flow but it also gives us less to kick to when we get it forward.

Marshall has been a disappointment this year and doesn't offer a lot in terms of a key forward.

That's why it makes sense to bring one or even both of Highmore and Sharman.

I'd like to see Highmore given a go in Patons spot.

Our midfield has been the weakest link since Steele has gone out so hopefully returns.

Really need to improve in that area over the off season if we are ever going to be a threat
