good to see

Good to see both teams supporters are feeling confident re their chances in this game.

I have been feeling very positive for the first time in weeks about the Tigers,

We will see Geelong... We will see....

1 : Bowden will have an absolute blinder against the Cats. 3 Goals.

He'll be the only multiple goal kicker for you lot then.

2 : Leon Camerons 250th game. Better be ready for a very hard start.

We coped well last week.

3 : Fiora 20 posessions.

G. Ablett 25 touches.

4 : I bet the Tigers kick 15 + Goals.

How are you going to do that without Matthew Richardson, who will be mercilessly thrashed by the best full back in the league?

5 : Tivendale and Chaffey (Underrated) wont get any tag at all.

Odds are, they'll be doing the tagging. Geelong's strength is our young, talented and enthusiastic midfield. You'll have a hard time containing Chapman, Corey, Ling, Ablett, Enright and Spriggs. Not to mention young Moloney who I predict will play a blinder in only his second league match.

6 : We better FIGHT.. FIGHT.. WIN!

We'll see, Richmond... We'll see...

My tip, Geelong by six goals.

The Critical Matchups

Greg Stafford v Steven King: Winning the ball out of the centre is, especially for this match, of vital importance and so the ruck duels will play a big part in the outcome of this match. Expect Geelong to have the advantage due to Peter Street being available as a specialist backup ruckman, whereas Richmond can't bring in a backup without losing valuable height somewhere else.

Ben Graham v Brad Ottens: This is the danger match up for the Cats. Ottens will most likely alternate between CHF and ruck, and it will be a hard ask for Graham to hold him. It also robs Geelong of the chance to play Benny at CHF, because as good as Tom Harley was against Cornes last week it would be too much to expect him to hold down CHB against Ottens.

Wayne Campbell v Cameron Ling Expect both players to win a lot of the ball. Disposal will be the key. Campbell is very experienced and wily, but Ling has the unbelievable ability to tag someone out of the game and still rack up 30+ touches himself. Whoever of the two comes out on top will give their team the best chance of winning.

Danger Men:

Joel Bowden. Has been down a bit recently, but most Tigers fans are expecting him to pull out a blinder. He will always be dangerous. Expect Tom Harley or Jarad Rooke to get the job on him.

Gary Ablett. Does something special nearly every time he gets the ball. Port Adelaide managed to curb him a little in the second half by playing very rough and in-close football. Richmond need to play almosy as tough if they are to have any hope of curbing his brilliance, but if they do a valuable avenue to goal will be diminished for Geelong.

The X factor:

Richmond: Can they lose six in a row? Most Tiger fans would be reasonably confident of beating Geelong. If the players feel the same way, their morale will be lifted and they'll start playing much better footy.

Geelong: Geelong are playing two virtual unknowns in Peter Street and Brent 'Tweek' Moloney. Both had little game time last week, but between them set up four goals. Will Bomber Thompson use them as impact players again this week, or will they get extended game time?

Total Bull**** my friend. Look at your own board.

Generalissimo: 6 Goals
you_idiot: 5-7 Goals + 3-4 Goal Win :D

Steve76: I think (and hope and pray) Tigers by 15....this is it for us, if we don't win we are gone, if we aren't already.
rfctigerarmy: I have a feeling that you will win.
wagstaff: Back to the game, I've felt increasingly confident about this game during the week - not particularly sure why, I guess we're due to win at some stage.
CaptainCustard: Looks almost full strength - should win.

Not to mention we are underdogs.

I'd say Chris Newman might start on Ablett. I'd run Coughlan and Corey head-to-head through the midfield. Would almost be worthwhile trying to tag Ling but more than likely he'll go to one of our players.

Yea Newman will get Ablett you would think unless he starts in the middle. Who knows!?

Well, of the four Tiger fans you've quoted, three are confident Richmond will beat Geelong. Maybe not supremely confident, but there it is. I'm not sure what your point is.

All I know, is that if Geelong keep blowing fourth-quarter leads, only to come back and win with late goals in the last two minutes, or less, I'm going to have a friggin' coronary by the time I'm 40.

Missed most of the game, and with good reason, because I was covering a country game here for the Ballarat Courier. All things considered, I would have rather been at TelstraDome, because in my game, Newlyn creamed Clunes by 109 points in the CHFL, and was effectively over as a competitive contest by halftime.

Suffice it to say, Jen and I listened to the entire fourth quarter on the radio, and just as we did in the Port Adelaide game, we went through the entire gamut of emotions once again.

And yes, I cried at the siren again-- and yes, I am man enough to admit it. :D

We'll review the tape later tonight and post our thoughts about the game sometime thereafter.

But once again, a great win by the Cats. It's all about getting the four points, and Geelong keeps finding ways to get the job done.

Well I was pretty happy today. The first Cats victory that I have been at, or even seen live on TV, in well over two years. And only my second since 1995!!!

Played with commitment for three quarters until Richmond got some drive and a last lamentable desire to rekindle their season in the last. Considering that King is the lynchpin of the side and that we won without him, I'm pretty rapt.

Won't be at SS next week, but will hopefully make the Kangas match

Great stuff.

YYYYYAAAAABBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!

Excellent mark.

Just wish he'd do it more often. If we could get the ball in his hands 20 times a game, we'd win more games then we lose.

I saw the mark first hand, was right infront of me (although I was on level 3) and straight away thought of the great man as somebody yelled out, "Like father like son, ay Gaz?".

Anybody got a pic of it? ;)

One of the really good things to come out of this game is the performance of our middle tier players and players who had been down of form recently. We know that players like Ling, Ablett, Scarlett, Harley, Enright and Corey and going to be big contributors but yesterday just about every player made significant contributions to the win. Just want make a comment on a few players who weren't necessarily my best players but ones who lifted their game compared to recent performances.

Sanderson: Probably the best game he has played all year. Played up bit further up the ground and was really the launching pad for attacking moves out of defense. He has copped a bit of a bagging in this forum, and deservedly so, but in this game he was in our best 3.

Graham: Awesome first half taking 9 marks and kicking 4 goals, with just his kicking at goal letting him down a bit. Faded out a little in the 2nd half. Could have easily came out of the game with 8 goals, and when was the last time a Gellong player looked like doing that?

Bartel: Good to see him getting more game time and really worked hard in the middle and his disposal was generally pretty good. We need to hang on to this kid.

Steve Johnson: Excellent in the first quarter and a bit quieter after that. Did some really smart things during the game and his delivery into the forward line set up a few goals. Laid a shepherd in the dieing seconds to allow Chappy to score the last goal. He worked a lot harder this game which is encouraging as he has been critised for this in the past.

Mooney: Thought he played pretty well and was required to take a few stints in the ruck where he wasn't disgraced. Threw his body around which is his role only to have the umpires award a couple of free kicks against him which were very dubious.

Wojcinski: His pace really upset a few of the Richmond players and on a few occasions ran down a few players and forced them to kicked hurredly which resulted in turnovers. His run through the middle in the last quarter really got the crowd going but he still needs to work on his disposal.

Geelong, please please try to have the game wrapped up before the very last second, I am way too young to be a widow :D:D

I can attest to the fact that you_idiot did cry at the end of the game, but can you blame him it was an extremely close finish - enough to make any Geelong fans heart stop.

The 5 best players on the field (in no particular order) would be:

Matthew Scarlet (such a superstar on the field, a rock on the back)
Gary Ablett Jnr (electrifying)
Brenton Sanderson (as much as I HATE to admit it, he was good)
Ben Graham (a much improved effort in the last several weeks)
James Bartel (a gun in the midfield all day)

But I suppose when push comes to shove, a win is a win, experience is experience and 13th on the ladder is a lot better than 14th on the ladder.

just mho

:)

Agreed on all five, honey. Spot on. :)

Honourable mentions to another couple of players, of whom we've been quite critical of lately and for various points of the season...

Peter Street. I was gutted before the game upon hearing that Steven King was out. "Oh, no... we are screwed. Street's gotta take the vast majority of the ruck contests, and he's the kind of ruckman that Greg Stafford eats for lunch and spits out the excess seeds from between his teeth," I said. But Street held his own quite nicely-- for the second week in a row, mind you-- and for a player some people here have been forecasting as a dead cert for de-listing, he's certainly stood up to the challenge and delivered.

Cameron Mooney. Not overly impressive, but not a dud, either. Came off his suspension with a fair effort. Demonstrated himself well in marking contests and helped out in the ruck when required to do so. Good job of being a role player and a team player on the day.

And to Brenton Sanderson, I'll echo Jen's sentiments by saying, thank you for proving us wrong. Fantastic game from him, and really close to being error-free.

Very happy with the win yesterday, all be it another nail-biter!! I thought we controlled the game for the most part, Graham was fantastic up forward, Bartel, Ablett and Spriggs were good in the midfield while Scarlett, Harley, Milburn and Sanderson held the defence together nicely. Special mentions to Peter Street and Cameron Mooney in the ruck for doing a great job in King's absence, Paul Chapman for kicking that last goal, (thank god:D) and Aaron Lord for coming to life in the last term with a couple of goals.
