Getting sick of watching AFL. Umpiring has completely turned me off. Diabolical

I hate the AFL and the umpiring, it's only my love of St Kilda that keeps me interested.

Let's focus on the positives.

Jack's on his way to joining that painting behind him.

Dal Santo got a lazy 14 contested disposals.
Armo 13
Steven 10
Curren a pretty handy 5 in half a game .

Disposal efficiency.
Stanley's 4 were perfect.
Gwilt 88%
Dal Santo 87.9
Dempster 86.7
Tom Curren 85.7

Great game by Dal Santo, also had 10 clearances, most for the Saints.

On that 50m penalty, Dal touched the ball, but didn't knock it out - the Port player just dropped it and milked the 50m - umpire right there....

Poor skill execution is not only attributed to AFL players, the amount of guessing that goes on in games is becoming far more noticeable to too many people, in such a situation as the late Hickey non mark occurs and you find yourself unable to determine who had first bite, the common sense approach is to ball it up as contested as opposed to pay one of them on a guess. (provided you don't have clear vision of a clear grab, which this particular one was not) A situation such as that (umpire driven) has as much input on a sides momentum than a forward shanking a kick in a clutch moment, it's deflating to view, it'd be deflating to experience (as evidenced by Milnes "any chance of one our way?" comment denoting unrewarded effort in the players mind) and it's unfortunate that there's no real sign of either abating any time soon.

It is usually (almost always) paid to the guy in front (Hickey).

This I'm well aware of, just as I am that the rule on marks emphatically states "if in the umpires opinion..." which is my most hated phrase in reading said rules, which effectively pisses on that previous assumption of "man in front".

I was merely stating that in that particular marking contest you had;

Guess: Hickey had first hands and controlled the football
Guess: He didn't, pay the mark to another player
Fact: Neither had it, contest (ie Milne drop mark that bobbed out)
Opinion: I don't have a clue who had it first, contest.

As 4 variables to that single contest.

#3 is obvious, he dropped the mark, play on.
#1 & 2 has flashing lights and sirens that you are, in all liklihood, going to question yourself and your decision week in week out and never come to any sort of consensus or flow of decisions.
#4 you can live with, because both players had a fair chunk of it depending on which viewpoint you take.

Ump picked #2, it was the incorrect choice (as replays showed), it'll be shown as incorrect and possibly bring out a severe swing to the alternative from the ump in the following weeks (pay shizen call -> let play roam free until people forget said shizen call. What a good job I'm doing!) and the game and umpire involved don't benefit at all, it gets swept under a rug and a new week is a new week.

It's pretty shit.

I just watched the replay of the last quarter. You guys were absolutely robbed by the maggots.
That Dal Santo 50m was a friggin joke and the mark they paid to Westoff on the wing when he was 3rd man up was downright embarrassing - we've paid man-in-front marks for 100 years FFS!

Meh, umpiring was fairly poor for both sides
