Only 2 games this weekend, but they are important games, like all are becoming (damn you swannies!). Only 1 in Perth metro area on Saturday, should be a fine day, so I expect a big crowd, OK people? I mean, it's not like any of us have got an AFL performance to look forward to, is it?

Subi v Souths - 1 v 2, ask the more arrogant supporters and they will tell you that this is the preview for the GF, me I still think there are hopes for other teams. Should be a cracking match with AFL v ex AFL players, an ultra-consistent team vs a team which is difficult to predict what they will come up with. I just hope it's a cracking match and it stays fine. Quite a few with ambitions for higher callings here, particularly from Subi, Cockie, Broadhurst, Dennis-Lane. Phillips from Souths has impressed me a lot the last few weeks, as has O'Keefe all season. After all is said and done though, Carn the LIONS! (got to keep second spot open you know:thumbsu:).

Just down the highway from Rushton Park we head to Hands Oval (I presume?) in Bunbury for Peel v Claremont. The tiges are on a roll, again, similar to East Freo, since they lost the majority of their AFL attached players , go figure. This shapes as the title fight of the lightweights, Richardson v Ballantyne. Who is better? Who offers an AFL club more? De Boer will be on display (YIPPEE I hear a lot of cries), along with Davis (of the Peel variety, who was good when I saw them earlier this year) and probably some of the colts or U18 players.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, at least I won't be disappointed after this round.:D

You are correcy chrisco it is Hands Oval.

With Peel being 6 points out of the 6 but with Perth and West Perth both having a bye a win here and we are still a very very slim chance of sneaking into the finals...A loss here and we are no chance at all.

GO THUNDER :thumbsu:

An important round for quite a few teams, finals aspirations for Peel hang in the balance this weekend, if they lose it will be tough for them to play finals footy. Both the Demons and the Falcons will be hoping Claremont pull out another upset win, it will be their third in a row if the Tigers are victorious on Saturday. The Sharks and the Royals will also be hoping Peel lose as their slim finals hopes stay alive if the Thunder are defeated.

Subi vs South will be a good game, South will provide a challenge for our boys, hopefully we can answer that in the best possible way. If the Bulldogs can win though, they will go a long way to securing a berth in that second semi final, Swans will be hoping that Subi can continue their great record to date.

Should be a great round, shame their are only two games on. With West Coast playing at the same time as these two games, hopefully crowd numbers don't diminish too much although with their poor showing of both WA teams in the AFL this year, I don't think there is too much danger of that happening.

Do you know if Johnny Bennell is playing League yet, I saw him play against NSW/ACT then didnt see him, heard from a mandurah lad that he had family killed in the car accident in Ravenswood.

Just wondering how he's coming along.

Peters?

I dont think wally really wants a Bachelor of Laws, Pav.

AFL-listed players who should turn out for their WAFL clubs include Black, Graham, Wilson (Sowfs), Schofield, Arrowsmith (Peel) and McGinnity, Thompson, Stevenson (Claremont)

Havent seen him in the league team yet from what i remember....havent seen his name in the stats sheets when ive been helping radio stations with them so i very much doubt hes featured for the league yet. Infact im positive he hasnt yet.

Bennell is named on the extended interchange bench for Peel in today's match, so he should get his first match today.

Duffield and Murphy both included for Freo, talk about bad timing

Can't see us winning, we have no chance :(

C'mon you souths supporters, have some faith. Crikey, if Swans can win with a predominantly 18-20yo team then Souths have got the pace and the tactical coach to do it. Not saying they will win, but I wouldn't want you approaching the game as I do with Swans games v South, oh we can beat them, etc etc. Chins up.:thumbsu:

We will see mate, but we really do struggle against Subi even with a full side.

Yeah, I do know how you feel legitimatic. I usually approach games against Subi and Souths the same way, but you will eventually beat them. I missed our first win against Souths in a long time, this year because I had a wedding. I still haven't forgiven that person.:D

Fantastic News.

That kid's got some real talent, as did his father. :thumbsu:

Not a bad debut Pav - 9 kicks, 4 marks, 5 handballs and 1 goal.:thumbsu:

Be interested to know which position he played? Would have to have been back?

Well, Claremont choked big time against Peel yesterday. The Tigers lead by 48 points at half time and then went goalless for the entire second half as the Thunder overran them, kicking ten goals to zip. Anthony Jones had four goals at half-time, Ian Richardson had three as the Claremont forwards had little trouble with Peel's defence. Michael Cousens had a heap of the ball in the first half with 22 disposals, Ian Rowe had 19 while potential draftee Matt DeBoer had 14. Jaxon Crabb also had two goals. However, after half-time, Claremont could only add six behinds as they missed easy opportunities which probably would have secured them the game.

Peel were poor in the first half as Claremont did as they pleased but Peel coach Chris Waterman put Hayden Ballantyne into the midfield as it worked wonders as Ballantyne kicked three goals in the second half and ignited the Peel side from their slumber. Kane Bloxsidge, Zac Beeck, David Butler and Matt Brown also played well. Johnny Bennell had 14 disposals and one goal.

There was another good game at Medibank Stadium between Subiaco and South Fremantle. Subi started well before a seven-goal third quarter brought the Dogs to within one point at three quarter time. But, Subi once again skipped away in the final term and went on to win by 23 points. The Lions were well served again by Brad Smith who kiced another seven goals taking his tally to 90 for the year and almost guaranteeing himself to reach the century mark in 2008. Subi's midfield did the damage again with Cossom, Hall, Rich and Hildebrandt doing the damage. Rich kicked two goals as did Blake Broadhurst who once again presented well playing at Centre Half Forward.

South tried hard but they'll need more than one good quarter to beat Subiaco. Reece Adams kicked four goals for South Freo and proved to be quite lively up forward. Ashton Hams, Ray Smithers and Kris Miller kicked two goals to go with his 22 disposals.

Round 18 Results

Peel Thunder 14.12 (96) defeated Claremont 12.11 (83)
Subiaco 13.18 (96) defeated South Fremantle 11.7 (73)

Subiaco have the minor premiership wrapped up, they are seven games in front of South in second place. The Lions have played one more game than a couple of sides and have two more than the majority of teams. Swans are third but have a game in hand and this weekend's encounter with South up in Newman could decide who takes second spot at the end of the year.

West Perth cling to 4th, half a game ahead of Peel who have played one more game than them. With Peel playing East Perth this week and West Perth playing Perth, the game against the Royals will prove to be a very important one.

Perth sit in 6th, a game behind the Falcons who they play on Saturday. East Fremantle are in 7th spot but are still a chance at finals footy if they can win on the weekend and a couple of resukts go their way, namely West Perth and Peel losing. East Perth and Claremont are in 8th and 9th respectively, their seasons are all but over.

A great weekend of footy coming up in the WAFL, Round 19 will be an important one.

Round 19 Fixtures

Claremont vs East Fremantle at Claremont Oval

Souths were very average in the first quarter, looked like it was going to be a massive blowout.

After a mega flood employed by JD, sowfs got back into the game and looked like winners in the 3rd quarter.

Players of note.

Adams, Theo's little brother. Kicked 4 playing across half foward, effectively bought the doggies back into the game. Only played 3-5 games and looks a very likely type.

In the end Subi were too strong and Smith won the game for his side, again.

Cockie was impressive, Broughton as always very polished.

Rich was good when he found the ball, just doesnt do it for long enough periods. He's a drifter. :thumbsu:

Phillips had an absolute shocker, bad sign. Up against a good defender he was meek.

Got to hand it to Balla's, gets the job done even if he is a midget. :thumbsu:

Johnny Bennell had a blinder of game his tackling pressure and general 1%'s were first class. . . He looks a real late flier for the draft possibly put his name ahead of the other WA 18's boys like a neville jetta and michael walters as he has that extra pace and poise his poise is unbeleivable knows how to play the game. . .

ive heard there are a few other good players coming through the peel colts like a jake withers and mitchell green and a chris luff
ny thoughts on these players
