Try and move on ASAP after that game.. :p

Find room for Ross, Wright, Minchington etc and people disagree i know but Blake in surely if Gwilt is out.

IN: Blake, Dunell, Wright, Ross
OUT: Gwilt (knee), Riewoldt (knee), Siposs, Curren

Curren out will disappoint a few people, but I think the coaches and selectors will make that decision. He had 2 possessions and 1 tackle in about 2 and a half quarters and that is not good enough. I wouldn't be surprised if Hayes gets a rest, I wouldn't want to risk that hamstring.

Good call Stanley_Knifes lost key players so should move on.
Keep playing the kids and work on set plays.
Search the world for key defenders!

Outs Reiwoldt (inj). Gwilt (inj) Webster Saunders

In White (not ready but who else do we have) Blake, Murdoch, Dunell

We are really struggling for players

In: Blake, Wright, Minch, Ross, Dunell, Schneider, Ledger, Roberton
Out: Gwilt, Riewoldt, Hayes, Siposs, Webster, Curren, Saunders, Milne/Stanley

Gwilt, Riewoldt, Hayes all injured (If they aren't right)

Schneider IF fit same as Robbo.

Has wright Fallen out of favour or is he being punished for letting Ballantine off the leash a bit. I reckon we miss his run

OUT:- Saunders, Sippos, Gwilt (inj), Roo (inj), Webster
IN:- Ledger, Ross, Blake, White, Dunell

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a couple more, the boys ran out that last qtr with no bench there's bound to be alot of sore players

@stkildafc: SW: Jimmy Gwilt looks like bone bruising. Lenny hammy to be assessed.

One thing we lacked was forward 50 pressure, Saad hasn't played that well at VFL, but last time he played vs Freo he shouldn't have been dropped in the first place.. he was our 2nd best forward.

People like White wont come in, theres plenty who are "Ready" to take the positions.

Sippa did cop a lot of negativity, I didn't really post much this week but I think his effort and result explains it all. But the simple fact is we have no one that can take Roo's place, didn't like him down back (even though he didn't do anything wrong), start him at FF and tell him to crash packs.

Stanley actually played alrite.

Milne had a shocker but he wont get dropped..

Take Roo out, and Lenny if hes feeling the hammy later this week.

Blakey finally gets another run, he didn't deserve to finish his career at VFL level anyway.

Thought Webster and Newnes were solid for most of the game.

Saunders didn't play badly but coming off a game like that, then needing to travel, he can do with a week off and come back in a fortnight.

Curren isn't not ready, (unlikey Fergy) but just needs a spell I think, or play him as a small forward rather than in the midfield.

Out: Roo, Lenny, Saunders, Gwilt, Webster, Curren,
IN: Saad, Ross, Blake, Wright, Schnieder, Roberton

Really you have to go back to the drawing board and say, ok who do we need to bring in, give a few kids a rest, throw in a few other kids.

Having said all of that, alot of it can be misinterpretted.. im jsut a bit tired and frustrated after that game because our midfield was either good but had no one to kick to, or when the forwards set up the clearance went the other way...

Having said that Steven had a bit of soreness on his left hammy at 1/4 and 1/2 time, but he'll be fine, considering ROo Lenny, Gwilt all injured not much you could have done. But one issue which i pointed out during the week occurred.. you can't substitute 4 forwards for four midfielders... your forwardline really had three forwards... Roo, Milne and Lee (considering Sippa spent 1/2 the match in defence). Finally 25 inside 50s for a match is horrid, ontop of that many werent of the best quality, so considering Roo and Lee kicked two.. I can't wait to see what can happen when we give them a proper delivery.

FB: Roberton, Blake Dempster,
HB: Geary Simpkin Wright
C: Ray Ross Jones
HF: Saad Sippa Montagna
FF:Milne Lee Schneider

F: McEvoy, Dal, Steven.
INT: Newnes, Armo, Hickey
SUB: Ledger

EMG: Dunnel, Webster, Saunders.

This way we actually have some forwards... and maintain a good midfield. Our backline looks tall but when you consider the speed of Dempster, is a rebounder, Roberton is a rebounder and Wright and Gears are small defenders, that leaves you with Stanlee, Blake and Simpkin as talls.

Forward line has Sippa and Lee as talls, with Hickey if he needs to (wouldn't recommend it...), some may call it the rebirth of the mosquito fleet :p. Having said that, move Stanley forward if their talls don't pose too much of a threat.

Midfield you have Steven and Dal for composure, with Ross learning, trusty hands of Ray and emerging confidence in Jones.

Saunders shows some dash and willingness to take the game on. But he consistently goes a bit to far and ends up handballing wildly or having to do a last second u turn before being tackled. Needs to spend some solid time with Lenny/Dal.
But I think he'll end up alright.

Bit frustrating to hear Watters say 'he wants' to play Stanley forward. We're not winning games anyway so why would he risk stifling his development as a forward by playing him back?? I was all for the Stanley key defender experiment but if Watters reckons it hasn't worked then play him in his best position and if we lose by 80 points instead of 60 then so be it.

Look, I understand Watters wants to develop Hickey by giving him game time, but not only is he not impacting as a forward, he's leading into Roo/Lee's space and impacting their ability to score. He's literally having a negative impact on our ability to score.

I'm thinking either:
- Drop Hickey to VFL and let him develop his ability to play forward there. Teach him where to lead etc.
- Make Hickey the #1 ruck, taking most of the hitouts and put Mac either forward or in a position to plug the whole in defence
- Drop McEvoy

I think it's pretty clear we could do with another mid and we can't really afford to have 2 players, who don't impact the game except in hitouts

Great call, I was more than happy for it to be an experiment but it clearly hasn't worked. It's frustrating that during games watters doesn't seem to have a plan b.

In: Ross, Wright, Blake, Roberton
Out: Gwilt, Lenny, Roo, ??????

I don't know who to take out for that final spot yet but IMO those four have to come in.

Blake and Simpkin take the key forwards, Dempster or Roberton the third tall. If Watters wants Stanley forward then he replaces Roo there.

One thing I don't understand is whenever a young player has a bad game "they need a rest". They'll never learn anything if they're dropped after one poor game. Saunders, Curren, Webster all need to stay.

Still really confused, why are people suggesting to bring in even MORE defenders and the occasional mid, at the cost of not bringing in any forwards? Right now if we stand to lose, Roo and if Stanley plays in defense, our forward line will be Milne, Sippa and Lee.... Yes we can push midfielders forward, sometimes it will work, like against port, but other times it wont, like last night and you'll have gaps in your half forward line with your midfielders unable to kick to anyone, simply because there isn't anyone to kick to.

I understand the overall concept of dropping a few players, and bringing in kids that played really well earlier in the year (i.e Wright and Ross), but really I think we need more forwards. If you take into consideration players like Ray who can also play on the HB line then really you've got a great team until you look at the forward line.

We need more forwards, but we need quality not quantity, right now we've got Lee who's been playing great but really the rest of our potential forwards this week aren't that great... Sippa has shown he CAN play amazing footy when he wants to, Milne is going through a hard time and therefore his performances may be unpredictable and then...... oh wait, that's all our forwards.

Four forwards, ONE small forward is just simply not enough, last year we had the games best army of small forwards, now we flood negative comments at them as if they'd killed someone, if they make one single mistake. Yes sometimes they deserve it but Saad hasn't played badly at all, averaging just two goals a game. Ontop of that his intensity and pressure around the ball in our forward 50, at the moment is second best to Roo's.

Yes I know we've got quite a few injuries with key players, but that doesn't mean we just give up like Melbourne did and "play all the kids even if they're not ready", White wont come in this year, Curren is ready but not for the Brisbane match, he can't run out an entire game and he can't be sub for the third week in a row, although he showed us some great character and skill in the port match, he needs a week or two at VFL before playing with the Seniors.

Despite losing key leaders, we still have a group that is capable of taking it up to the opposition, and I'd prefer to see a contested match for two and a half quarters rather than a blowout...

Out: Roo (inj), Lenny (Inj), Gwilt (Inj), Curren (Rest), Saunders (rest),
IN: Saad, Ross, Blake, Schnieder, Roberton.

We got the result we expected against Geelong, so don't be surprised now.

This match isnt out of our grasp, but if we play kids that aren't ready tbh I just wont watch because that's taking a step in the wrong direction. SW has done a great job so far this year, playing a good balance of kids, if we overload the team now, it will just be a waste and they wont get anything out of it. Play a good midfield, rebounding defence and a forward line that consists of more than 3 players at a time.

Against Geelong we needed our experienced players such as Blake. Against Brisbane we can play the kids, Brisbane have a young team so we are both in the same boat .

I'm not saying to not play the kids, but there has to be a balance of kids aswell as a balance throughout positions (Forwards, midfielders and defenders). I said Roberton, Saad and Ross should come in, who are 22, 24 and 20 years of age respectively... not exactly ageing cattle.

Which other experienced players would you have brought in? They're all injured.
