I’ve already s
Avoided the question I see.

We won't be winning the midfield battle for a while. And before we win in the midfield we will break even. And then it's up to the better forward line and back lines to win or lose the game.

That's the point. You don't nececcarily need to win in the midfield to win games. You need to break even, aka not get flogged. Then win in the other two segments of the field.
I've already stated many times that the game is won or lost in the midfield many times, the fact that you can’t grasp that concept is not my problem.

Duggan has had some great years (last was 2020) and some ordinary ones. He was crap last year but had knee issues. I'm happy to give him a couple of games to see if he can get his form back, given he's had a fair few problems with his knee.
But that's it always an excuse and frankly I am sick of it....Nicnat with his injury issues Yeo with his calf shuey with his hamstrings. The whole squad has something wrong with them and I am sick of hearing about it. Other clubs have injuries and they manage it we don't our players go to s**t

Excuses are over for me don't care about their injuries if they are picked and playing game time they need to perform.

Excuses are over IMO

Good point yet people froth over the tackle count, for some reason.

I mean, we got flogged by Richmond last year having around 100 tackles. just means you're second to the ball in most cases.

having a high tackle count is really inly worth it when you also have higher contested possessions also.
People froth over our tackle count because the alternative to us tackling is watching us play ring a rosey when the other team have the ball

Reckon he will displace Duggan at some point this year, through either form or injury.
I sorta like Foley but Foley has huge limiations. He’s not that great 1v1 and is very slow. I honestly don’t wanna us getting to the stage where foley is needed. I’m hoping hough comes in and nails a defensive role

This is one of those "how to hold a turd by the clean end" conundrums, isn't it?

Another problem with playing both Bailey and Jamo is that apart from being crap in the ruck they both offer nothing around the ground or in any other position. So we basically are playing 1 short.

So I think only 1 can play with someone else helping out.

Out of the 2 , I think currently that Bailey stays in on a very short leash. But dont care either way.

Just hope Barnett is ready to debut a lot earlier than first hoped

Cole was fine apart from his ground ball efforts.. double grabbing and fumbling but he wasn’t alone there

Thought that, but it was his first proper game of AFL in over a year. Hopefully will be better for it.

I thought Duggan did some good things on the weekend. Am I crazy?
He's just super average. That the guy is in the conversation for future captaincy is laughable.

It would be like suggesting Kasey Green for captaincy in the early-mid 2000's.

Duggan looked like he was on the right path in 2018 and then again in 2020. His last two seasons have been injury impacted and po. That said I don’t he’s gonna be anytging close to what we expected from him and the best case is that he can turn into a consistent/relaible defender.

On the weekend Hunt didnt get a lot of the ball like the other mid/small defenders but he looked the best with ball in hand. Need to move Witherden on and have him and Hurn evenly splitting the kick in’s too

We need to find out if they are up to it or not
This. 2023 could be a very useful year to sort out exactly who is/isnt up to it. But that involves playing the new/fringe players sufficiently to get a really proper look. Not one game out of position then dropped, another game weeks later etc.

And that means having say eight spots a week for them - not just making up the numbers as is the case now.

Then with the trimmed list and more draftees (and retirements) we start 2024 with real intent.

I don’t think we can afford 2 rucks as they are currently. With Nic at least we get half a game of some genuine silver service or a genuine contest but as it stands we lose too much away from the contest playing both Jamo & Williams

I think we need to Choose 1 (probably Williams as he is more physically ready)

Team this week:

In: Hewett, SPS, Waterman
Out: Petch, Jamieson, Chesser (rookie rotation)

O’Neill to Sub

Single-handedly created our best passage of play and beyond that was largely quiet I felt, but certainly not understanding him as the target of the ire.

Just rewatched Alesana’s amazing work on the clips. Some good moments, some hard at it moments, some disposals he’d definitely want back. Thoroughly ok yet unremarkable output.

I haven't been on here in ages, let me give you guys my thoughts on the game plus some more.

  • Bailey Williams - this man is a bonified scrub, this man is 6'8 and tall for no reason. It is an embarrassment to the ruck craft that a designated ruckman got not only outplayed by the opposing ruckman, but dismantled by a midfielder. Not only did he get beaten at his own craft by smaller midfielders, this man cost us the game. Failed attempt to kill the ball on the goal square, leading to a Larkey goal. Holding the ball and free kick in the ruck in the last minute of the game. This man has no IQ, awareness, lacks the determination and everything that becomes with being an AFL, this man is an embarrassment to the game of football. I'm sorry but if this scrub gets outplayed by 6'3 midfielders in the ruck, what's he doing against other ruckman? He's going to get smashed like we saw last season. I would rather have Sheed ruck instead of carrying this liability. I still cannot phantom the abysmal performance by this man, Sumuck gave him a 2/10? I think there was a typo, he really meant -2/10. When the Norf ruckman got injured and was out the rest of the game, i throw a parade in my living room. I was celebrating thinking we were about to take over the midfield numbers, thinking the only logical thing any fan would think, a designated ruckman, rucking against midfielders. This man should be banned from the city of Perth, past greats of this club, Seaby, Wilson, Cox did not walk for this man to run backwards the other way. I am all for supporting our own, but this was arguably the worse performance i have seen by an player, taking into account his direct opposition. This man was literally doing CARDIO on saturday afternoon, cardio. I don't care if we don't have a ruckman to come in for him this week, this man needs to go back to WAFL level, not even WAFL level, a level where he is rucking against 6'4 ruckman, he first needs to master that before rucking against ruckman his size. How are you the tallest person on the field by 3 inches and fail to take one mark man, cmon god damn it. The only positive thing this man can do is when it's one of his teammates milestone game and he is used as one of the two players to chair the player off the field. In fact, the only ever time someone on twitter will say something positive about Bailey Williams, is when the Bailey Williams from the doggies is playing. To my surprise there were some positive tweets saturday night, then i remember the doggies were playing.
  • Ginbey - Good, reminds of Crips.

Should be looking to bring Hewett, home game, should be playing.

What’s with the hate for Sheed. Clearly wasn’t our best today but clearly wasn’t our worst either.
He’s not defensively great but there are others just as bad in this side. What he does do well is clearly better than some in the side however.
The guy has only played a couple of games in the last 18 months going to take a few games to get back to his best.
I could understand if you said you thought Dom, Gaff and Kelly were average and need to lift , Xon didn’t touch it and needs to be replaced with Hewitt.
What does Sheed do well better than anyone else at the eagles?

Totally agreed. Bonified spud 🥔.
Hope Eagles delist or trade him at years end

How about no rucks. Two extra midfielders. I reckon Eagles have been too tall for two long. I prefer Richmonds mosquito fleet set up.

Williams may be more physically ready but at the moment he is a handicap. He competes for the ruck knock ok but just gets lost after that. More often than not he simply doesn’t know what to do or he is too late in doing it. That unopposed mark Blakely took was a classic example. He was the tall who should have spoiled for the ball but was just sitting back waiting. Barass wasn’t there either so I assume he had covered elsewhere. If they do that sort of thing you would think there is a system in place where the ruckman knew the role he had to play

Agreed. The black texta needs to be put through his name, pay out his contract and send him on his way. He is never going to cut it.

The people paid to assess these things for a living at the club should have realised this a long time before it became stark raving obvious to all the supporters. They seem him at training, break down the video footage of his games and go through it both by themselves and with him, have been watching him in the WAFL and have got to know him personally and what his mentality and psychology is like.

Those people who are paid to go be aware of and go through all these things and make astute judgements on players (and have obviously advised to keep investing him in since he is still on the list and getting a game) are obviously pretty s*** at their jobs. And that is an even bigger problem than the draft pick, games and years of development resources we have lost ploughing it into Williams.
