Autopsy Round 20, 2021: Hawks roll the Lions

17th placed team is coming 18th in a stat. But how many poor teams have beaten the Swans, Brisbane, and GWS?

Jeka kicks 4 goals a week at Box Hill. Its simply not the same level. Playing well at Box Hill doesnt automatically mean you will do the same in the AFL.

Lets maybe wait a few weeks to see what happens now that teams know to watch out for him.
Haha I was waiting for this.

The point has nothing to do with the level, we aren't comparing VFL to AFL we are comparing Nash the forward flanker to Nash the midfielder, and it should come as no surprise that he performed better as a midfielder than he has as a forward because he has been out performing himself in this position for weeks.

And if he does it again next week then it will be proof. But at the moment its a one-off when up against an opponent who was asleep for 3 quarters of the game.

Scrimshaw has the potential to become a great player but needs a big pre-season. His last quarter was an embarrassment - could not lay a tackle and a bad case of the fumbles. Must build his aerobic capacity. Same goes for Bramble, who also struggled in the final quarter. Bramble is a worker who will do what is necessary. Scrimshaw is the David Gower of footy - sublime natural skills but needs to develop a work ethic.

Nash was a revelation. Very quick hands and massive tackles. We have needed a big mid for a while. He is as big as they get.

There will be a few contenders for "most improved" as the PCM this year. My vote will be for Dylan Moore. There is a bit of Brent Harvey about this kid. Covers an amazing amount of territory and reads the play.

No reason why we cannot play finals in 2022 and salute in 2023.

Since when considering he's only been playing in the midfield since Mitchell put him there at Box Hill? Also maybe give it a good season before claiming it's a success 👍.
Pretty sure he was tried in the midfield a few years back and HBF and recently wing all at BH

That gut running from MOORE :fire:

What does Derwayne say as Moore gets the ball back just outside 50?

Is it...phenomen? Is that a drug of some kind, like football Viagra?

The bottom 3 teams, north, hawthorn, Adelaide - they’ve never intentionally done a hard rebuild and find themselves ‘down there’ so make the most of the drafting etc.

it will be interesting to see how these three clubs with this philosophy go over the next few years compared to the melbournes and carltons etc

We need to consider how much petrol they spent getting to a 53 point lead against a side like Brisbane. Awesome win. The change in gameplan was evident, much fewer handballs out the back, everything seemed forward and to a running target. Ditto the unneccesary switches, Howe’s was from the bad Hawthorn and looked how that turned out. The fast ball movement brings Bruest, Wingard and Lewis into the game.
Has absolutely nothing to do with gameplan and everything to do with workrate. You only go backwards and switch when you have no options as opposed to a plethora of them.

Dude you’re pretty emotional, stop making this about Clarko or Mitchell. The players deserve the credit as well for their effort. I know that the weekend is over, but everything will be just fine.

Unfortunately the next 12 months minimum is all going to be about Clarkson and Mitchell. I’ve had enough of it already. Almost unbearable.

I'm all good for people to have faith in the guy, but to knock people for not is ridiculous. He's been on the list for 5 years, he hasn't played one good senior game, he was getting games over others who deserved it more. I'm happy he finally found a bit, but he needs to have more than 1 good game too.
Not knocking people for not believing in him, I'm knocking people who tear the bloke a new one and can't use language more effectively to convey s**t other than "Nash bad, we're bad because Nash is in and Nash bad".

Not a bad win for a side that has, according to the doyen of footy Kane Cornes, a terrible list.

a lot of positives for today obviously, but it was the brand of footy we played that excited most. We ran, we attacked, we found targetsup forward, and the effort was outstanding

very happy hawk after today

Was a constant bagger of Nash, but he had played absolute sh*te at this point of his career. People acting like they knew he had this in him all along are talking bullshit.

What a difference though it is to play in a position that suits him. You could just see the confidence grow through out the game. He was taking marks, handballing over his head and even did a don't argue. Gee if Mitchell can pull off a few more of these doozies, then we are in for a treat.
He played the role he was given in all of his appearances - otherwise he wouldn't have got another opportunity. Sometimes he played it very well, other times he didn't get into the game, however he has tools that others don't and there was always going to be a position that we could exploit his natural physique and skillset against others less well endowed.

Chris Langford played on the wing and in the ruck (some would say poorly) before he found his niche as the best fullback of all time - most of us knew he would make it though. It's called footy brain.

lol we have a great win and posters like Noel Gallagher trying to boast. Every hawk supporter wants every hawk player to do well but the reality is Nash has been on the list for 5 years and it’s about time he showed something. I’d love nothing more than for him to succeed. Go hawks! A top 5 pick this year and most likely next year, there is plenty to work with I feel

Boast - r u serious? Do you even understand football? Yes he has been on the list for 5 years, he has always been a long term project for he club being an Irishman. His athleticism is phenomenal but he was always going to take time. Just got sick of so called supporters laying the boots in and saying some really ordinary things about a foreigner new to the game wrk in week out

Go back and actually read what I have said about Nash before making stupid comments and embarrassing yourself

He has never been put into the midfield in the seniors. He's always been placed up forward to put on pressure and he has been poor at best.

Right, except Chris Langford started playing Full Back in his 2nd/3rd season and had played football his whole life. This is Conor Nash's 5th season and this is his first decent game he has played.

And one good game, isn't making it.

Nash and Newk in the same midfield next year
