Autopsy Round 21, 2022: Hawks dim the Sims

Glad we held on and got the win for Mcevoy. It wasn’t a great finish but these are the games we should be winning against ordinary sides on the road and for 3 quarters we outplayed them.

Most pleasing was the young midfielders starting to really gel: Newcombe is closing in on Sicily as our best player. Once he gets a 4 quarter engine the sky is the limit.

Ward was great for 3 quarters. Has found his groove now. Some really classy ball use today.

Moore is a midfielder. In his 50th game he’s ready to go to another level.

Maginness’ best game. His ball use is still an issue but he neutralised an absolute gun player in Miller today.

Gunston is just a champ. Need to keep him for 2 more years.

Down back Hardwick did a great job on Rankine, and Jeka beat Chol and did some nice things. Could be another key defensive option.

As for GC, they are a joke of a football club. We need to prise Hollands out of there before he wastes his career. Looks a jet.

That’s probably our last win for the year, so glad we got it. 8 wins is about what I could have realistically hoped for at the start of the season.

Blue collar win against the number of top draft picks that exist at the Gold Coast. The Hawks’ unforced errors made the score closer than it should’ve been. Must be a record for HTBs and less than half were there. That, and the last deliberate call sums up how the AFL have stuffed this game.

Finn and Hardwick just brilliant. Surely votes in the B&F.

Gunston brilliant 1st half then the delivery died. Impressive that Mitchell didnt send him back and had faith in our defence.

Ward just looks so good with the ball. Moore the terrier really has changed his game in the last 3 weeks with no more aiming for high frees.

Very messy final quarter but lots to like earlier. And the defence stayed solid.

We’ll done Hawks

My observations:

1. Big Boy at his age shouldn’t be a sone ruckman but today he was great and played with all he had, Witts wasn’t his usual great self and that’s good enough while playing well himself. Really led from the front and hope he plays on next year and leads this young group one more year.
2. Saw enough from Jeka & Serong to say they have the ability and smarts to be AFL level players, most likely in 2024 for Both.

went back for Jiath and was great. But to allow Hardwick to be more attacking we need Morris and that means with the 2 talks to allow Sicily to attack means Blanca, Frost, DGB & Jeka are competing for 2 spots and One of Jiath or Day need to be moved up the ground. But a good problem to have.
5. I’ve read sone criticisms of DGB but to me he is playing really well and we look more secure with him. While he is not intercepting at his talent, he shuts down opposition with Blanck and today Chol and Casboult were their usual great selves this year.

Hardwick was sensational , Macguiness giving Miller no run and recieve probably wins us that game.
