Many thanks to the Hawks for knocking off Collingwood and Sydney for squeezing past Brisbane at the Gabba (never easy).
I can't remember a year when things fell our way like that, but I am compelled to say our blokes have made their own luck by winning when they've had to.
I can't remember a year when that happened, either. 2017, maybe, until that GF :sadv1:.

Looks like we'll be playing under the same kind of waterfall that drenched AO in the last Showdown.
(EDIT, 0850 today: apparently that's changed which is good; apologies for not checking the weather at 0100 last night)

I'd like to see smart slippery-weather footy:
--- tap/ mongrel/ soccer the ball forward relentlessly
--- have a small behind marking packs to crumb off-hands
--- keep the ball low and skidding forward (Berry to kick another couple of 55-60m goals?).
If we bring the same kind of hunger and 4-quarter effort as against PA we should win it, well.

I don't know what the WCE will try against us --- maybe stack their backline and make it a rolling maul slog? We'll see.

All I want is a win which sustains or increases our % (73-50 will do it) and anything over that will be a bonus.
I'd also like to see Taylor, Jones and Pedlar play strongly with real game impact.
Most importantly will be to come away with a win injury-free.

It should be 40+ but just get it done

Yes there is perceived pressure from Geelong but Thursday showed they got to Jeremy focused and it cost them at least 5 goals

Results should have us finish top 2 let alone top top top

Win and keep winning

Be interesting to see how much mid time we give Curtin today.

The clubs resting management is going to be a real quandary for the club particularly with a likely dead Rubber against North combined with the round off between the Rd 24 and regular season.

If a player is rested (or doesn't play against North) and we win the first qualifying final - they would have played one game of AFL footy in 30+ days before the prelim.

Yep, basically today is last rest opportunity. They won’t rest anyone against Pies at home and unless you’re really struggling, they won’t want a player going 2 weekends without a game pre finals. Disappointing more players aren’t sitting at home today, but % still being a potentially crucial factor, it’s somewhat understandable.

Huh?

Aside from some rain early this morning, Perth is blue skies and sunny all day.
Thread started around 0100 last night and I was going on what was reported by a WCE poster in the Preview Thread.
60mm of rain with the ground slow to drain. I was too tired to check Willyweather.

If that's changed, great :thumbsu:.
It's weather; hang me.

First and foremost, no injuries. Second, load management where needed. That’s the needs done. What I want is that we win by enough to make it extremely implausible for Cats to catch our %. If we do that, it allows for resting a player against Pies if need be. Cats would need two 10 goal better results than us over the final rounds. Swans away and Tigers at the G makes that almost impossible.

Unless I'm mistaken, there wasn't any news about Rachele on the midweek injury update, although MM is expected to be available by the finals. Best guess re Rachele, anyone?

If we don't win, even if we'll still be top, we can forget about any talks of the flag.

With Collingwood and Brisbane losing, and Geelong not gaining much %, we can just get the job done without needing to absolutely belt them (although I'm loving some of the ruthlessness we've shown this year).
