Have you heard something? I was under the impression he's still trying for a return this year.
No. Uneducated guess. It looked a serious injury, requiring surgery and a scary-sounding "bone-raising", I suppose to counter bone-compression. His injury-report status outlook is blowing out. I can't see him getting AFL-fit for some time, and I don't want to introduce him for finals in a risky state.

All in all, I don't think we need this distraction for finals.

See my post in the Rachele thread.

Not really. 80 points is absolutely the par score given its 1st versus one win 18th

Melbourne beat them by that much last week. Melbourne! Who historically struggle kicking goals.

We beat them earlier in the year by 66 and that was with Waterman, Reid and Allen all playing
That was also their second biggest loss of the season. West Coast have only lost by more than 10 goals twice in the last 15 weeks, and zero times at home. They got within 29 of Collingwood, 43 of Geelong and 49 of Freo. They are bad but they aren't West Coast 2023 bad, despite only getting one win. There's no way an 80 point win away from home is par - winning by 50ish would be one of the more comprehensive wins against West Coast recently and would be better than all those other contenders did.

That's when they had better players in their side. They have no midfield without Reid, their defense is weakened and they have no forward line.

Our forward line is going up against Ginbey, Brock and Bazzo. We should be piling goals on.

There is no reason whatsoever we should perform worse against them now than earlier this year given the trajectory of each side and recent teams/form

What if Burgess kicks 10, does Tex drop back to the SANFL?

Be a bad time to lose your spot this close to the finals
Would be very timely for him. If he kicks ten he might get another contract as a back up forward.

... because ...?
Because if we lose to one of the worst established teams since Fitzroy (along with Melbourne 2013), then we're not serious flag contenders.

Not that it matters, because this should be a comfortable win even if we don't get out of first gear.

Interestingly if West Coast can't beat us, Bulldogs or Sydney I think they will become the first ever team to lose 22 games in a season. There have been four teams who have finished with a 1-21 record, most recently GWS in their second season, and quite a lot of winless seasons of 17 or 18 games, but I don't think there was ever a 0-22 before we went to the 23 game season.

Weather cleared right up now, no further rain and the ground should dry out a bit before bouncedown.

Will still be slippery in some areas and quite soft/muddy along the interchange bench side.

May be one of our “effort” halves 😆, percentage less of a need now, but you should still clear away in the end for a comfortable win. Bank the points, manage a few in game and get home!

That's fair and I am certainly not ruling out a huge win, I just don't see how 80 point wins on the road can be par. It's a relatively rare occurrence. We've only won by more than 80 points four times under Nicks, and never lost by that much, even while finishing bottom 4 multiple times. We've beaten West Coast on the road by 80+ points once - 86 points in 2013. I don't think our biggest ever win against a club could be considered a par result.

Seems like a good place to leave this

People forgot how good he was and what he brings to the team.
My hand is up :embarrassedv1:.

I wanted Milera dropped after 3 or 4 rounds. I said he'd been injured too often and was being played on reputation, not output.
You and others were right --- gotta play talent --- and I was OH so wrong!
(while I'm at it, I got the direction of this side OH-so-wrong as well; it was unthinkable to me early this year that we'd be 6 wins away from a Flag, maybe 5)

I think this is the largest disparity in team talent we've faced since we faced first season GWS
