Nothing is more consistent than Victoria's inability to bowl out the tail.

Edit: Unaided by a few dubious umpiring calls
I dunno, our (Tassie's) ability to play dumb cricket is pretty consistent.

See the dismissals of Ward, Silk and Webster as the most recent examples of this phenomenon.

I thought there was an unwritten rule that test batters were expected to bat in the top four for their state side. Equally I would have thought Tassie would have encouraged Beau to bat higher and give him every opportunity to play the first test. Though I appreciate this is his first game back from injury.
Yes, I was under that impression as well. I know from being involved at grade level, all top 6-7 Sheffield Shield batsmen were expected to bat 1-4 for their grade clubs.

He did originally get picked off his form batting at 6 though. Would be a bit ridiculous that it was fine to pick him based off this form and then also now tell him to move up the order.

He's the only member of the squad not batting top 4 apart from Carey when playing Shield cricket, which is obviously keeping duties as part of it (for Carey).

So he's 1 of 2 bats to not bat top 4 for their shield side that doesn't already get used in the top 4 for the test side?

The other being Head who hasn't play a Shield game since the 2021/22 season.

Head bats at 4 when at SA. It's also previously been an expectation for selectors to consider you. See Wade, Green, Handscomb when they were initially selected.

That's all well and good and I don't disagree that it previously was important. But the fact remains that Webster was picked off form batting at 6 which I think makes it pretty clear it doesn't hold the weight that it once did.

Assuming Tasmania -0.68 points would be for over rates.

I’m glad there is some penalty. Was ridiculous when you have a 5 minute delay for the ball going over the fence then one ball later the bowler and captain need another conference over field placing…
