How is Campo to Moraes a bad trade?

It's a much broader discussion imo (early Sat morning in the rd. 5 Trades thread probably isn't the time or place)...

...not saying it's a bad trade, but on the balance of probability, most teams would have a more productive trade to make.

People see that Moreus should make 100k, so great. Jump on. But they forget that the initial trade that gains $0 (and in some cases costs $) needs to be factored in.

As mentioned, rookies this year are flaky, even without the sub rule.
(Langford a good example from last night).
I mean, it's all crystal ball stuff to a degree, but I think you need to be pretty certain on a rookie's short-medium scoring ability to trade them in without making money on the initial trade which you can immediately use, in the process.

Tl:dr, people scoff at sideways trading expensive players 'down' to potential keepers (and making $ in the process), but happily sideways trade cheap ones. Which in a lot of cases will mean an extra trade used and a month-long delay in seeing the $ benefits.

But your season is over before it even starts if you dont have cash gen. Sideways trading premos is completely different to rookies in my opinion. Most would be in a similar boat but my bench rookies were Campo, Lindsay, Knevitt, Reid, Trainor, Stone and Hewett before trades. Cash gen is king, without correcting the dead rooks, you'll get nowhere.

I went JHF to Baz which in my opinion was a keeper for a keeper but banking 100k, Campo to Moraes, a dead rookie to one with a secure role on the wing (for now) and then FOS to Maric. Upside on all 3 trades.

As the trades get less valuable (with 40), the value of holding trades becomes a lot less.

You can make 10 trades in the first 4 weeks, and still just be where you would have started 6 years ago for trades, and we all mananged to get full premo with 30 by the end of the byes historically

Really not sure what trades I will do in Round 5. I sort of sold the farm this week trading out Fos,Lindsay & Knevitt for Smith,Humphry, & Rowell. So I missed Bice & Moraes but I might sideways Berry > Bice.

You're right, and I'm not saying hold trades. I'm just suggesting that there are different ways to make money with the extra trades.

I think it's plausible to argue that your season is over before it starts if you are 3-400 points and an extra 'premo' behind early with the 40 trades too.

(Purely for example, the Neale or Sheezel out to cheaper players on the rise. And this is the type of thing that people seem hesitant to do).

Probably no right or wrong (or at least, no real way to tell for a few months yet), but with the extra trades I think it's pretty important to improve your team every week. Not necessarily bank $ for a big haul down the track.

Missing osullivan hurts. Ah well can't have them all.
Will watch gross with interest this weekend.
Yep, me too. Was scared off my talk he’d be dropped when Stewart returned. Frustrating when you miss a cash cow that scores well. Annoyingly, when I skip them they tend to do well, when I grab them they tend to spud up.

Not selecting a KPD Rookie is understandable TBH ....and many were concerned with JS when Kola came back

I'm not keen on Eagles rookies it looks like Mini is playing around with his magnets too much and no one has any JS.
Sadly, this is true. Clay Hall looked great. I still don’t know why he was dropped in the first place.

Agree 100% with this.

Don’t agree with people who are getting caught up trading in premos at this stage of the year. I get the temptation, but cash gen is key.

Get a bottom priced rookie, Bice is gone.

You'll never finish your team trading in rookies at $190k.

It all comes down to how they perform. If he had spudded he loses his spot and is a bad trade, in this case he's going beautifully and will make cash.

Sometimes it's hard to guess right. No one gets all the good rookies.

Last night he said his knee is still sore and he'll just have to put up with it.
