Forgot how crap/ineffective Ebert was yesterday, he is really just a waste at the moment.

His possession count has fallen away now that he's on a HFF but if you look at other guys who play there it's not too bad.

Ebert in 2011: 14.5 Disposals, 2.5 tackles, 0.8 goals
Strijk: 14.2 Disposals, 1.6 tackles, 1.1 goals
Hams: 13.2 Disposals, 3.2 tackles, 0.8 goals

I still think he has to lift but I suspect he's getting a run before Strijk and Hams because he understands the forward zone we have in place really well. One thing which has been really good for us this year is that zone.

Outs:

- Nicoski - offers no forward pressure and isn't scoring goals. Can't tackle so doesn't fit our game plan. Not sure why he's being picked really.
- Dalziell - just seemed all at sea when he came on. Should have made some impact when he came on yesterday but didn't. Not up to it.
- Schofield - only noticed yesterday for the fact that he was up forward. Did nothing.

Ins:
- Hams - forward pressure is exceptional.
- Stevenson - by all reports playing well in the WAFL and offer footskills that we currently lack.
- Stryk - limited pre-season but appears to be getting his fitness back. Play him as the sub if required - could offer something in bursts up forward.

Just by watching Dalziell run and observing his gait, he just screams out out DUD.

Dalziell was a bad choice.

We really need Swift's dynamicness and inside creativity at stoppages. Other than Kerr & Shuey we lack Offensive mids.

OUT: Schofield/ Brown, Dalziell (shit sub), Nicoski

IN: Bones or Jojo (pity both may have injury worries) replace the back
Get Shepp in for Dalziell and ffs play him of a wing
LeCras (if fit) or Hams replace Nicoski

I know we've been through since since R2 but what chance is patty mac of playing. Solely to tag Davey imo if patty plays. Think Selwood/s are capable of doing it but you never know with match commitee this year. Davey is there real midfield weapon with a huge hurt factor. Other melbourne player closely watched should be Moloney

One of the key moments yesterday was late in the third, we had a slight lead and had the football on the break with Ebert getting the ball on the half forward flank on his own looking for a target inside 50. Ebert has 2 targets to hit, both have space with only one hawks defender to deal with in the near vicinity so who does he kick it to? The ****ing Hawks players

Luckily the resulting transfer of play to the other end didn't result in a goal to the Hawks as they missed the shot, but if we had nailed the goal out of that i think it would have given us better momentum going into the last

He does worry a bit when he throws the ball on to the boot but then he also takes a more dangerous forward than Schofield simply because he is much stronger.
What are Glass and McKenzie for? How many teams have a Roughhead-Franklin 1-2 punch?

Schofield will struggle to be a key defender but is handy because of his pace and run. He just needs to learn not to over commit and keep his feet
Brown is not a natural defender and it shows up under pressure.

Which of the two problems would you rather have?

I'd love to see Swifty get a run as the sub. His main problem at AFL level is awareness and getting run down too easily. If he comes onto the ground half way through the third quarter and is given free licence to take the game on then I think he can have a potentially match-winning impact.

IN: Weedon, Hams, Swift
OUT: Schofield, Dalziell, Nicoski

B: A. Selwood, Glass, MacKenzie
HB: Hurn, Brown, Butler
C: Embley, Priddis, Rosa
HF: Weedon, Kennedy, Ebert
FF: Darling, Lynch, Hams
RR: Cox, Shuey, S. Selwood
INT: Naitanui, Gaff, Kerr SUB: Swift

EMG: Stevenson, Strjk, Sheppard

Also, just looking at the stats for the game. After Priddis with seven clearances, we have Kerr with five and both Shuey and Scooter with four. Good signs.

Just prior to that moment he ran into Darling who was trying to mark at HF as well ball spilled free to Hawks players .
He is a solid footballer but he does more dumb things per game than most.

No love for Bones?

Used to very serviceable in the past but I think his best footy is behind him. WAFL form not always translated into good AFL quality. He was mint in one of our last games last season but I reckon play the young guys who can only get better with time - Brennan and in particular I was pretty impressed with J Jones from the NAB Cup games. Never understood why he didn't get a go.

The grass is always greener.

The fact is that Stevenson and Swift do not hurt opponents in the WAFL. Their game yesterday was posession high but no hurt factor at all or attacking intend needed to improve our team.

From reports only Brennan appears to have the right traits

...Sorry, did you even watch the game yesterday? Or are your preconceived biases getting in the way?

Stevenson opened the game up in the third with two laser like passes that put guys in space and resulted in goals. He then kicked a lovely running 50m goal. His disposal was very clean.

Swift did some creative inside stuff, helped all around the ground and kicked a clutch goal breaking away from congestion.

Ziad what drugs you on ?

Stevenson has massive hurt factor, his kicking was what got Claremont back in the game.
Seriously his hurt factor is the major plus of his game, we also saw it last year when he got games at afl level.
His kicking opens up the play, and creates goals, he doesn't need alot of possesions to hurt the opposition.
What he needs to work on, is work rate and intensity, which he showed yesterday.

Sometimes you make comments that stagger me.

Thats all good and well but if you are a HF and you have a shot at goal you need to kick it... If Ebert doesnt take his chances he should not be playing. He had two gettable shots, missed one and the other fell short.

He might set up in the zone better, all though I dont see many decent tackles or run downs?

If we needed another medium marking forward he would be worth more in that role, but we dont so... We really need him to play midfield but cant trust his kicking.

And I actually like Ebert so...

Clean living.

He is good kicking under no pressure at all with ample time and a target well clear. He may go ok against GC but we need to aim higher. In contested situations and in all AFL games he lacks core strength, and is unable to get a clear disposal under the usual physical pressure or make decisions quickly.

He doesnt break open a game or run lines. He may one day but not yet.

It's a bit harsh on Dalziel in some ways to drop him for his little time of the ground but I'd probably go:

Out: Brown (injury), Dalziel
In: The best two on WAFL form of Stevenson, Swift, Sheppard

If Broome has another great week maybe bring him in for Nico? Weedon would be great (looove his tackling) but the reports I've read seem to indicate he doesn't have the fitness to run out games yet.

I also like the idea of Swift as a sub.

I wanted Brown to be dropped because of poor form but he is injured now anyway. Worsfold probably wouldn't have dropped him so at least now his hand is forced. MacKenzie, Glass and Brett Jones should be our taller defensive options going forward, I know Jones might be injured as well now though.

Re: Round 6 changes Vs Melbournce

This plus Brown for Stevenson.

Have rated Schofield but have been really disappointed with his lack of awareness and inability to hold his feet.

Need to start setting up for the Derby = running and kicking skills a must.
