Ahh the dreaded hawks. You can never enter a match against Hawthorn with too much confidence. We may be playing well (which we are) and they may be slumped (which they are), but they always seem to come up.

A victory here would go someway to getting rid of this hoo-doo and I think it'll happen. With the emergence over the last few weeks of Tenace and Mackie, the return of Monica and some bursts from Ablett, Geelong has turned from the ugly duckling that faced Carlton, and become a not-so-ugly duck.

We could, for the first time in a while, be going in with an unchanged and settled line-up. The only change is likely to come from the return of Riccardi, if he is fit.

Cats by 6 goals

It is a twilight game at the Fone Dome.

I think that Hawthorn will be too strong for the Cats. However, I think it will be a thrilling match.

Just for anyone that didnt know........

GA is on 1st level and thenif that fills then it goes for level 3. Level 2 is reserved.

im getting GA so if anyone else is id advise you should get there fairly early to secure a good seat

Let’s guess the crowd. I’m saying 20,000. A Sunday night twilight match on Mother’s Day won’t attract a very good crowd at all you would think.

Not on free to air thank god.

I think Geelong are playing much better footy than Hawthorn ATM and should win.

Important matchups:

Mooney/Playfair v Spider Everitt: We're gonna get killed in the ruck again, let's face it, but even withut getting many hitouts uor midfield has done very well over the last month. I wouldn't worry too much about that. If/when Spider goes forward, Mooney's got to go with him and the big H has to go into the ruck.

Bloody Stupid Johnson v Hank Bulger: I reckon Johnson will get the job of tagging Crawford. He's been good the last few weeks. While he's not the only player we have with the speed and endurance to run with Hank, he's probably one we don't need to get a lot of touches himself. If Crawford is still a bit underdone and running in from HBF, it might even be an opportunity for Dave Johnno to get a few inside 50s.

Ben Graham v Joel Smith: Smith's drive from defence can hurt us if Graham isn't careful, whereas if Smith isn't playing well Graham could easily kick 4 or 5.

Players to watch:

Kane Tenace: The kid will worry Hawthorn with his pace and accuarte disposal. Kane is just hitting his stride and his confidence is high; and the wide spaces and dry turf of Telstra Dome will suit his speed.

Josh Hunt: I just like watching him kick the ball.

Henry Playfair: He's shown a bit around the ground lately, in conditions that don't suit big men, and I think he is in for a big game. Wouldn't surprise me if he kicked two or three.

If we lose to this rabble, we'll be back where we were a month go.

Desperately need this win, would make a huge difference to our season. Going into the Melbourne game at 3-4 will give us an excellent chance of playing finals football.

Why is it when we play Hawthorn, they are in crisis, either on or off the field?

Big danger game this one and like phat said, if we don't beat them while they are down, then we are back to square one.

Cats by not much and with not much confidence.

At least one of this lot will be very unlucky to miss out. Bartel and Rooke didn't do enough to break into the team, but all of the rest performed well last week, including Johnson. Chances are someone else will drop out from the selected squad and they will all play, except Rooke and Bartel.

Agree.

I cannot see them dropping Moloney, Haynes, Josh, Fumbles or Mackie, so look for either Ricco or Dash to be a late withdrawal, thus allowing all five to play.

I think he's fairly safe.Johnson might be the one to miss, along with Rooke [how did he get a gig ahead of Callan ?] & Bartel.

:p True. We always seem to get teams when they've just sacked their coach as well. Did we get Carlton the week of the drug controversy?

Like others, I'm not too confident about this week. Not because of us, because of Hawthorn. You don't know how they're going to come out after the week they've had. If we can get on top early, hopefully their confidence will be shot and we can take it out.

I remember a few years ago we had a run when none of these games were decided by more than a goal. Might be a close one again.

When we played them last year they were under the same pressure and we won easily. We are playing better footy now and should beat them again in similar circumstances, but when it comes to us & Hawthorn you never know. It would be good to win and maybe put some of the upsets of the past behind us for good. Geelong by 11 pts. Crowd 23k

That happened the Monday after we played them.

Oh yeah, that's right. Both the St Kilda and Carlton controversies happened after they played us. They must get so happy to have beaten us, they can't control themselves. :p
