Round 7: Peaking / Bottoming out players

Also anyone hate this new draw system, port just played Sydney...

Yeah, seems very strange. I wish I'd given the skewiff draw more consideration when picking my team at the start of the year. It's certainly not equal for all teams/players. It's good if you're looking to buy a Port Premium player after their 2nd clash with Sydney though.... get the "shut-down" games out of the way and enjoy their bigger scores!

Both Cameron Bruce and Sam Mitchell are at their lowest prices (around 367k). Are they both keepers? And who is like to have the highest average at year's end?

Both are definite keepers, if you already have them. IMHO, I don't think either will be in the top 6 scoring midfielders at the end of the season. I would easily get Mitchell before Bruce, but I'm not a Bruce fan. They're both great value right now though.

Ummm, not sure if this is slightly off-topic or not but I need advice. I have a bit of a situation/dilemma.

I currently have Alwyn Davey in my team and it seems to me that he will be out for the rest of the season. Now, my dilemma is that this week I have a mate that I'm playing against in my league and I will decimate him. I'm just wondering whether it was worthwhile for me to offload Davey now? I was looking to offload him for Robert Murphy BUT the Doggies are playing the Swans. I find it hard-pressed that Murphy will score big against the Swans' style of play. Maybe I should wait for after this game to pick up Murphy (so his value goes down slightly???). What are your thoughts?

This weekend's opponent and for the next 2 weeks I have average opponents so should all be beatable. I have 11 trades left if i use the Davey trade.............

Davey is gone for the season (full knee reco). I assume he's on your bench and you're not copping any zeros. His price isn't gonna change. You want some advice??? Stop making 2 trades every week!!!! :D You're obviously focussing on league win, and you WILL NEED trades toward the end of the season/in finals.

You really answered your own question... wait! :thumbsu:

[Your right about Goddard. Assuming he maintains his current average at the minimum (will likely improve on it) then he won't be cheaper this season. If you've got Ellis I'd do an upgrade this week.

As for Kornes, I think you are mistaken. I'll use last season as an example.

In 2007, Kornes averaged 106.4 for the year (higher if you ignore finals games).
Out of 22 rounds he had only 5 scores below 95. These were 94, 84, 61, 70 and 51.
His scores of 61 and 70 were in succession, but all the other scores were separated by scores of 100 or even 110+.
The point is that Kornes is such a DT gun that in the rare case that he has a sub-95 game then he will quickly regain his price by producing a big score. He scored 120+ on eight occasions last season.

Your may be right in saying that he will be probably around $450k sometime in the near future, but thats a whole $25k we're talking about. Anyone can trade in a gun at their proper value, but its rare you get chances to trade in these DT superstars at value prices. With guys of their quality, "bargain" prices are harder to come by because they are so consistent. Kornes this week is one such example.

You are right that he is a bargain but I'm saying he should be down to 450ish again this season. Its only 25k difference and my midfield rookies should have matured by more than that by then. I just feel there is more value in the others such as Goddard and BJ that I listed. Depends what your team is like and what needs improving. For me its backs right now and that of course makes me look at Milburn and Goddard - Cornes was my highest scoring back last week:(

Cheers for the Sammy Mitchell update. Much appreciated and an enlightening read.

Just on the Mitchell profile, that was done 2 weeks ago before he racked up his mid 120s score. That score has tarnished his value slightly but he is still underpriced by 30K. Others have also now come to light as excellent value because of the last 2 weeks results.

Kane Cornes is the obvious underpriced gun talked up everywhere and rightly so. The other is Swan who has averaged 102 for the last 2 seasons and is extremely well priced both this week and next at 400K. Remember this guy only averages 3 ppw less than KCornes.

At the moment my Backs and Centres look like:
BAC: Milburn, Birchall, Mattner, Symes, Brett Jones, Gram, Ellis (Pfeiffer/SDT)
CTR: Corey, Cross, Salopek, Stevens, Johnstone, Palmer (Dyson/Bird)

Option 1 (Ibbotson on CTR Reserve):
OUT: Dyson, Johnstone
IN: Ibbotson, Kornes
Salary Cap Remaining: 87,800

Option 2 (Armitage on CTR Reserve):
OUT: Dyson, Johnstone
IN: Armitage, Kornes
Salary Cap Remaining: 95,700

Option 3 (Ibbotson starting as 7th Back with Pfeiffer/SDT Reserves):
OUT: Ellis, Johnstone
IN: Ibbotson, Kornes

I want to do whats best for my team. Rucks and Forwards are settled.
What option would people think is best based on Ellis/Dyson peaking?

Next week I really want to work on getting Swan into my team (now that I've managed to get Kornes), for Houli.

If they score around about what is expected (Swan: 100, Houli: 60), then the upgrade will cost 120k (not bad considering a 240k difference at the start of the year). My problem lies in how to raise this money. I have 9k in the bank. The cash cows that would raise me enough money to make the trade: Palmer, Masten, Rioli or Gamble, have no where near peaked and I think it would be negligable to trade any of them now.

My other option is to trade that useless lump of shit Hampson (or West) down to Jesse White this week and then I'll have enough cash to perform the trade using Tippet or Bird. However I'm not overly keen on using three trades to make the one upgrade.

Thinking the same trade probably before Rd 9. By that stage I would expect around a $100k difference.
