Just been nominated for round 8's rising star. He had a ripper of a game against the Saints and has really begun to turn into a decent player for us, great boot and speed on the kid. I can see a bit of Shane Crawford in him... Not bad for a 75th pick... :thumbsu:

The next Daniel Kerr :)

You'd hope not. That's 4-5 years of poor football once two decent midfielders retire. Then he'll come good again.

Well done to the kid. Looks like Libba's waiting another week.

Libba will definitely get one soon. Other players who are due include:
Swallow
Batchelor
Conca
Liberatore
Lynch
McKenzie
Gaff
Johnson
Etc. Should all get one eventually

Great game by him, shame he's versing so much talent in Heppel, Swallow, Smith and all the rest of them or he may of had a decent chance...Couldn't of been too much worse then Hannabery.

He went to Dandenong High School was a good kid kept to himself and not a class clown also has been in a long term relationship with his high school sweet heart shows a bit of character considering shes not the prettiest girls around and him playing AFL .. girls would be going crazy
Also speaking on good kids Scully was in the same class as my cousin and he says he was a top bloke and also kept to himself (not cocky at all because he was rated number 1 draft pick at that time). Same cant be said about Jack Watts though he apparently used to go crown every night gamble then get pissed.

You'd wanna hope he doesn't read this.

Can speak a bit on the 'culture' that Dandenong Stingrays have and they will nearly always put a good bloke ahead of a twat.

From that draft class, Scully, Bastinac, Savage, Doria, Cotrell all nice guys.

Could not speak highly enough of Bastinac, all the time in the world for anyone :thumbsu:

Just quietly, Shane Savage at $17 is good value.

Didn't get to see the Hawks versus Saints game but if he was touted as best on ground in that win then I'm all for him getting the nod over Libba who was good, but had a few in front of him.

His number of marks while potentially inflated by playing a team that forces the ball to be kicked shorter to loose players from time to time shows a willingness to work hard and provide a receiving option as well.

well done, fred!

don't worry, libba's time will come. the AFL tend to nominate the obvious ones late because they know they'll get games and perform well enough to earn a nomination most weeks.

Question for Hawk supporters.

Who will be the better player - Liam Sheils or Shane Savage.

Both were picked up as under-aged players.

Very hard to say, Shiels is very much like Sewell, he wins the hard ball so would be a "safe" bet to be a good player, has been in form most weeks throughout his vfl season last year and this year.

Savage is much flashier, I see him a bit like Burgers, he is hard to lay a glove on, is quick, composed and loves a goal.

I think Savage has more tricks than Shiels and has the potential to be a gun but consistency will be the question mark. Shiels is so hard at it he would be harder to knock of his A game you would think.

Not one to go out of my way to defend Kerr, but 08,09,10 is three seasons.

Some of which he played some very good football but much of which he was injured.

Long way from 4-5 years of "poor" football.

They're both very different players, so it's hard to compare.

Savage more outside, speedy and skilful. Booming kick.

Shiels hard and inside but some early questions on his kicking. Tough nut.

With Hawthorn's current needs in mind, Savage is probably looking more likely but I'd safely have them along with Smith and Bruest (hopefully) being the nucleus of our side in 5 years.

After some of the criticism of our drafting the past few years, taking Shiels and Sav as 17 yo before the compromised drafts is looking like a win.

Shiels' kicking is actually very good, just needs to improve his disposal when under pressure (and he is under pressure most times). Will only get better as he plays more, and gets accustomed to it all through experience :thumbsu:

Class act by Savage :thumbsu: Well deserved nomination, future gun
