it was a great set piece. I have seen vision of the same style of free kick, involving the same goal scorer, in a league game.

Yep it was a joke that they went to VAR to give the penalty to Mount, yet the exact same thing happened to Giroud about 10 mins earlier and nothing given or review.

Felt like the referee was just listening to the Poms.

As much as I'm always team Croatia all the way once Australia goes out, a Morocco win would be great for so many different reasons.

I was in Africa (not in Ghana) during 2010 when Ghana had that quarter final run and every single person was supporting them. Over a billion Africans will celebrate if Morocco gets it done.

The issue with Morocco is the injuries they had in the win were to their best players. Will be interesting to see if they can get up.

Frances attack is another level but look exposed in defense. The teams who went HAM kicking 6+ in a game (Spain, Portugal and England) are now out. Croatian and Moroccan defense have both been pretty elite.

Something I was reminded of this morning.

Group F in the world cup was:
Croatia
Morocco
Belgium
Canada

So in hindsight Belgium going out in the group stage doesn't look as bad now that we know they were against two semi-finalists.

Also though, if Morocco and Croatia win their semis they would play each other twice in the same tournament. The first game ended in a 0-0 draw.

This has happened twice previously (copy paste below from Quora):

West Germany and Hungary met in the group stage and later in the final in World Cup 1954. Hungary won the group state match 7–3 while West Germany won the final 3–2

Brazil and Czechoslovakia in World Cup 1962. They tied 0–0 in the group stage match and Brazil won the final 3–1
