Surprised they didn’t include this one 🙄

In 1998 WC I watched almost every show of Frank Skinner and David Baddiel's Fantasy Football World Cup show that SBS had on a few hours delay from the UK doing the type of comedy stuff what Ed, Santo and Sam shows did for a couple of WCs.

Nearly every show they a segment called World Cup Phoenix from the Flames where they reenact a famous WC moment usually with the player involved.

From 6.20 onward they reenact this incident with Patrick Battiston. The punchline comes between 9.50 and 10.10

There were a couple of Argentinian fans that got their tops off at the final (i think BF rules mean I can’t post the clips here).

Taken away by the authorities.
Looks like they escaped Qatari authorities. Trust The Sun to report it first. Fox Sports Oz has taken this story from their sister publication The Sun.

An Argentina fan who went viral after she was accidentally caught on camera baring her breasts at the World Cup final has been unmasked as a glam globetrotting model.

The woman, known as Noe Dreams on Instagram, became an overnight sensation when her brazen stunt in Qatar was picked up by TV crews, The Sun reports. Eagle-eyed viewers spotted her topless performance in the stands after she seemingly flashed the cameras.

Her pal Milubarbiee, who was also filmed with her top off amid the wild celebrations, referred to the pair as “The Topless Girls”.

Their actions risked arrest and even a lengthy prison sentence in Qatar, where women are banned from wearing revealing clothing in public and public nudity is forbidden.

But Noe broke her silence yesterday to give an update on what had happened since the duo were filmed stripping in the stadium. Initially, with the two not being identified, there were fears they had been hit with serious police action. But Noe revealed that she had got home safely as she shared a new photo from the final on her Instagram........ She also posted a snap of her and her friend topless in the stands with Argentina flags painted on their breasts.

This is a surprise.

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold’s stocks continue to rise after being dubbed the best coach of the 2022 World Cup by renowned French publication L’Equipe.

Arnold guided an unfancied Australian side to the Round of 16 and a tense 2-1 loss to eventual champions Argentina. His effort saw the prestigious publication rate his coaching performance above any other national team manager, edging out Japan’s Hajime Moriyasu, Morocco’s Walid Regragui and title-winning Argentine Lionel Scaloni.

The honour comes with out-of-contract Arnold’s future remaining up in the air, with no extension offer on the table from Football Australia yet.
......

After making the last 16 in Qatar, before being beaten by ultimate World Cup champions Argentina, coach Arnold’s side will climb 11 places to 27th in the rankings, their best spot since being 25th in September 2012 under Holger Osieck. ...... Australia will remain the fourth highest Asian nation behind Japan (20), Iran (24) and South Korea (25) but will be well clear of fifth-ranked Saudi Arabia (48).

Arnold is set to be offered a fresh contract as informal negotiations continue with Football Australia. His previous deal expired after overseeing Australia’s World Cup campaign.

Does Des the Champ keep his job as France's coach after 10 years? he got the gig after France bombed out of Euro 2012, losing the 1/4F.

You guys will get there soon.
16 years isn’t soon

That's what 70 years of bad governance and declining wealth does to people. Sadly, for many, it will be the happiest moment of their lives. But I don't need to explain that to you.

Yep. It’s such a sad history.

I have written about it once:

Yesterday I mentioned the new faces that SBS introduced to their WC coverage mainly via The World Cup Daily show. Looks like it was a decision only made a week or two before the WC started or at least announced publicly.

They all are involved in podcasts and bein Sports, which I don't have access to so no wonder I had no idea who they were. and the two girls also do the A League \ Womens podcasts and social media stuff around the women's game.

Their Born Offside Podcast is a couple of years old and I found this discussion in October of who is making bids as co-hosts in 2030 quiet funny.

For some reason the embedded video freezes and then gets out of sync but works fine on twitter.

Melbourne Victory will not be allowed to sell tickets to home games, but members will be permitted entry, as interim sanctions for the derby riot are handed down. Victory fans will not be allowed to attend away matches while strict rules have been placed on home games. Home and away active bays will be closed and therefore are to be cordoned off and tarps must be applied to at least the first four (4) rows of seating behind the goal line at each end of the Venue; An agreed number of supporter marshalls are positioned in the Venue.

He was Uruguayan champion. He was Nacional’s main scorer.

He didn’t renew his contract. He’s decided to play elsewhere. However, I don’t know if he has already signed with a club.

FIFA rankings is very similar to the ELO ratings in chess.

It adds and subtracts points based on games played, considering both opposition and the relevance of the match.

What FIFA fails to observe is that an eliminated team isn’t punished enough for being eliminated.

A team that doesn’t qualify for the World Cup, for instance, has already lost the seven games it could have played if it had reached the Final. Yet, it’s ranking points do not change.

On the other hand, a team that qualifies, but loses its three group-stage matches, is heavily punished.

Brazil lost in the quarters, but got zero points deducted after that.
