Last night I watched the amazing doco on Rowland S Howard called Autoluminescent that screened on ABC2 - a truly moving documentary about an extremely talented guitarist/songwriter/singer - for those who missed it, it can be seen on ABC iview for a couple of weeks at http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/883954

Anyone with an interest in guitar and Australian or alternative music must see this.

RIP Rowland, what a brilliant man.

Here's one from his classic Teenage Snuff Film album

Went to Soundgarden last night so I iq'd this doco. Looking forward to watching it tonight.

You won't be disappointed.

How was Soundgarden? I'm looking forward to them twice in the next week.

Mate it was great. The sound was a bit dodgy for the first couple of songs but it got fixed. Cornells voice took a while to warm up too but when it fired it fired on all 8 cylinders.

They played songs from Louder Than Love, they played Slaves and Bulldozers (which is my favourite song of theirs) fair bit from Badmotorfinger, good songs from Superunknown (not just the hits) and 1 or 2 from Down on the Upside.

2 hours on stage and yeah ****ing awesome. In fact spent an hour after the gig looking for a pub with no music because I didn't want to hear shit that would have sullied the experience in any way.

You will love it and can't wait to see your photos.

I only vaguely knew of Rowland and his involvement with Nick Cave, The Birthday Party etc, so I found this very interesting. It was sad though, it seems like he was sort of never really that happy. He makes a comment along the lines of "I can't see how people don't realise that the world is a sad place." I guess one has to have such an outlook to write a lot of the songs he did. Someone may have to clarify for me.

Watched it last night - great movie. He really was a pioneer in many ways. Sad story that he died so young but years of rampant drug abuse will do that. He admitted it himself in the doco. Last time I saw him was in the queue to see the MC5 documentary at the MIFF.

And hirdy_is_champ his music always had a very dark edge to it so you'd have to guess his outlook on life influenced it. That being said he was always a very funny person which came through on the doco - very sharp and witty.
