its been happening for weeks now. Ross is just lulling the remaining contenders into a false sense of security with our poor decision making and poor skill execution.Come Sept 25th the switch will be flicked on and we will have players hitting targets by hand and foot, players making the correct decisions, tackling correctly and having a plan to clear our D50 decisively.

Hang on I must be dreaming, we what we are. We won it our way with a little help from the "spirit of Steve Bradbury" any May that spirit keep helping us in our next game.

My best hope is that we can scramble our way unimpressively to two more wins .

In retrospect people are under playing how well Sydney played. They were really quite good and would have beaten the Hawks had they played them. Goodes, tippet and Kennedy had blinders. We played well enough for the win and as others have eluded to we only have to be better on the day than our opponent.

He has been playing containment football - he started this at the beginning of the year against Port and, so far, it's been effective. That's why we dominate and then pull back. It has restricted our number of injuries. People are hating it, but it has gotten us this far.

Yeah and you can throw Hannebery in there as well. That third quarter Kennedy and Hannebery threw everything they had against us.

Agree to a point FreoGirl, but I think we have "flirted with form" to the point we don't seem to be able to recapture it.

I would have thought that we were trying to switch back on in the last few weeks (barring Port) and have not been able to sustain the effort required.

We have got through to the pointy end pretty fit and available, but I see Ross getting more and more frustrated in his pressers about our skill errors and "lairising" at times.

Hope we can find the magic ingredient to get back to our best in two and three weeks time!

Dont give a damn how we win it. Just win it.

Bradbury, Diamond, All Blacks? No care.

Win the damn cup.

This.

Win. The damn. Cup.

Give exactly 0 farks how it happens, how pretty it is, who feels good about it etc

2 games to go

We just saw North win by adopting a similar plan - resting those players really helped in the last half.

It will also help when they play the Swans. A bit off-topic but I think North can beat the Swans, which would give us a WCE v North Prelim. I would be nervous if I was the Eagles, as Goldy will be able to breakeven with NicNat. It will be a tough game.

Fyfe not being 100% hasn't helped
Indeed. The fluctuating form of our season exactly correlates to to Fyfe's form and availability.
He was the difference in the first 8 weeks. Hell he may win a Brownlow off that patch of form which is where we were unbeatable.

The other thing that has gone wrong in terms of our form is no one taking big marks around the ground. Early part of the year Fyfe, Sandi and Clarke were all grabbing a lot more catches giving us an easy out of D-50 from kick-ins and better value for inside 50 entries.

Have been thinking exactly the same thing

Our best 22 is just a lot better than our best 25, 26 etc...In McPharlin & an in form Taberner - out goes two of either Pearce, Suban, DeBoer & Mzungu.

Johnson now plays loose & we have more than one option for the get out kick. Big difference to our efficiency & quickness of ball movement. Hence the RTB call that is emphasized just as much as effort, namely 'fit and available'.

Yes and North's talls will worry the Eagles backline.

Couldn't agree more, Sydney were top notch, they would have knocked off every other side...

North are pretenders, just like shitmond.

Dead rubber match, with both of them having no chance against Eagles at Subi.

Sydney win, is the best outcome as they can beat WCE.

Actually, North can beat Sydney (much fresher) and Adelaide can beat Hawthorn (like the Eagles, they seem to match up well). Going to be a fun weekend of football.

This is true. I wonder whether the Fyfe drop-off was necessary though, in that we had by round 10 become too predictable in how much we were using him and we needed to become more multi-faceted, kinda like the hawks and Franklin circa 2012.
We're not playing as good as the first third of the season, but the win did feel like an improvement on that middle section where Fyfe was being triple teamed.
