It appear that next year we won't have an established first ruck. So I just wondering who you guys think will be the one to step up.

For me it's Chris Bryan. Some say he has a bad attitude but he has a bucketload of talent and could really improve if given the opportunity.

Bryan definitely I believe should and will step up (if he survives). But I don't think ruck is where he should be playing (just as a back up ruck when prime ruck is tired), I think he should be a loose man floating b/n chf and chb, a good mark, height and great kick.. DEADLY!

I agree completely jj1978. I have posted a thread on using Bryan as a dual ruckman - not main ruck, but either a backman/assitant ruck down there, to free up our other ruckman, and Im' leaning towards a Deluca/Bryan partnership. Bryan has a monster kick.

Bring back the WOOF!

What i like in this pic - notice the monster in the background... Kennedy is going to be so exciting to watch at CHF...

GO BLUES !!!

Deluca, Bryan and Mclaren have to pump the weights, get the fitness up and study the art of ruck work extensively over summer.

At least give themselves the best opportunity to compete.

The club then needs to draft a ruckman in the National draft and take real look at a mature aged ruckman in the VFL, SANFL, and WAFL.

Carlton is ****, your ruckman are ****, its time you plugged in Loonyberger as your no1 priority in the preseason draft

1)We are ****...yet you failed to beat us in 2006...TWICE :D

2)When have we ever denied our ruckmen are no good?

3)We will be taking Gibbs with number 1. Jealous much?

4)Hope you enjoy your brief visit to this board. You won't be seeing much of it after MS, ODN or Funky see your post :D Run along now, little girl.

Yep, lets compare them to ruckmen who finished a long time ago
Well you're saying that "Bryan and McLaren aren't tall enough to be any good in the ruck".

Now, to back that statement in and shut me up, what you have to do is go and get the height stats on every ruckman playing in the AFL in 2007 and compare them to Bryan and McLaren.

To futher reinforce your point you can then go and get the height stats on Farmer, Nicholls and Scott, and compare them to every ruckman they played against during their respective careers.

After all that you can tell us all how Bryan and McLaren are too short to play in the ruck for the CFC, and be any good in the 2007 season.

That should fill in the evening for you. :thumbsu:

The evidence is clearly there in front of you. I'm sure you've seen McLaren and Bryan's performances in the ruck since they've been at Carlton
...which had absolutely nothing to do, whatsoever, with their height - or lack of it.

What point are you trying to make?
Do I really have to spell it out?

OK.

You stated:

You're wrong. Look at the stats over the years and you will find that their height (or lack of it as you seem to think) has nothing to do with their ability to play quality football in the ruck.

Have a look in other areas.

The game has changed since the days of Farmer, Nicholls and Scott

The dominant ruckmen in the competition are 199cm+. Cox, Sandilands, Lade, Charman, Jolly are all giants. Bryan and McLaren cannot compete against them.

Of course their height has something to do with their ability to play quality football in the ruck.

Do you think Nichols, Farmer and Scott would be able to ruck in today's game?

So how tall is Jeff White anyway..........

OK, I'll leave this thread with this:

Luke Darcy - 197cms - 100kgs.
Chris Bryan - 197cms - 100kgs.

According to you Effes, that means that both Chris Bryan, and Luke Darcy, are too small (read: short) to play good football in the ruck at AFL level.

Ponder that one kiddo, after you've gone and gotten all the stats you were asked for earlier; even if you can't understand why you're accumulating them.
