rumour about Dean Solomon?

This is what Eddie McGuire had to say on Nick's site:

For anyone to say that we are speaking to any management group or player or to say we are offering amounts of money is nonsense.
The board do not talk of these issues so if anyone is saying they are involved they are telling fibs.
We liase daily with all managers and have an extensive knowledge of who is coming out of contract and who wants to move.
Love the speculation but anyone proporting to have inside knowledge is auditioning for a position with the "puppetry of the penis" troup. Unless that person is me, Greg Swann or the coach.
Rest assured we will continue to recruit the best available players to Collingwood.
The President.

This is the real thing. His IP address and email are traced back to CH 9.

Joel,
Thanks for that. Exactly the response you would expect from a president.

The Coach, President Board and CEO can't be involved as that breaches the drafting rules but that doesn't say someone else from the coterie or another group with ties to the club isn't speaking to him. Good luck to them. I think all clubs do the same thing.

I particularly like the part about liaise with managers daily and rest assured recruit the best players available. Bit different to Tony Shaw's recruiting strategies.LOL

Why would you liaise daily with player managers if they don't have players at your club and players contracts don't run out until the end of the season?

If my memory is correct wasn't it Peter Jess who said in court that his objective was to get the best money for his client and unlike the clubs he had no obligation to the rules of the AFL. He also stated that he helped falsify documents to avoid salary cap and drafting breaches by clubs.

Perhaps it could be mentioned in discussion between club and manager that a player is unhappy and may like to move at the end of the year - Gives your coach time to think about him, who might you swap, what 's the cap look like, how much does he want, would recruiting him create other problems, and who could we use as a middle man?

Now we wait to see if Solomon goes to the Pies at the end of the year.

Solomon, Lloyd and Sean Wellman have all agreed to new contracts in principle but their managers are waiting for the AFL to pull their finger out and announce the future years salary cap figures to make the deals final.

Lucas may be a legitmate shot for the Pies. (if they want him)

Solomon is apparantly best of mates with Chris Tarrant, both having played for Bendigo U/18's in the same year.

Don't know why he would want to defect, or why we would want to throw cash to entise him. If we will be throwing cash and players around at the end of this year, it would most probably be at a Ruckman or a CHF!

As for Lucas...needless to say, Essenscum have some of the most overrated players in the comp as a result of the superior quality players making them look good!!!

No clubs actually have the cash to throw around anymore, as all clubs have to pay a minimum of 95% of the salary cap anyway.

So if you want to recruit a player with big money you have to piss off players on big money or piss off a couple of players on mid money.

The only any big money player would get to Collingwood is if they finish last (which even I say won't happen) or through a trade.

Tarrant, Solomon and Mark Alvey from the bulldogs are great mates, but I'm not hopeful about this bond drawing either to the Bulldogs.

Sorry I forgot to add this to my last post...

...and why the f*ck are we talking trades in April!? If you recall, no-one knew whether Fraser Gehrig was going to St Kilda, Collingwood or the Melbourne Dance Company until a couple of days before the trading dead line in October!

Fortunately for Collingwood and the Melbourne Dance Company, he went to St Kilda, but you get my point!

Thanks

If Collingwood want a fat bugger that can't play footy, I'll do it for next to nothing.

Remember, reagrdless of when the premiership was won, they all count equally. Collingwood has 14 the second highest number. There are 7 Vicrian based teasm that have won less. Let them and their idiotic supporters mull over that themselves

I actually had my money on the Melbourne Dance Company way before October. Fraser was set to star in Swan Lake but it fell through when they couldn't find enough socks to pad out his leotard!

Actually

Whilst its the 2nd highest number there are two teams (at least temporarily) on 16, not 1 as implied.

Good luck with summer maths catch up classes!

Dutchy

Ps. Dean Solomon IS the Mark Harvey of the modern game - there is no way the guy will leave windy hill...
