I love how channel 7 are automatically assuming Jonas is going to win, as if there are no other members who are nominated for the position.

Jonas is one of the least popular figures of modern day (ie AFL era) Port Adelaide, and what he stood for as captain highlighted everything wrong with regards to the direction he was part of steering the Club toward.

I have no doubt there is going to be an alternative candidate who is a much better fit. The biggest hurdle is for that candidate to engage with as many members as possible in the month heading into the election campaign.

Trying to work out what Jonas has been doing post footy.

Still no idea

Cassisi hasnt nominated has he? ****ing shit sandwitch between those two if he does. Dire.
Apparently he and Aber not wanting to go against Jonas (yet Aber was happy to run against WGT)

Tom Jonas is an absolute moron, struggles to articulate anything with coherence, accepted mediocrity as captain and spat the dummy when dropped toward the end, despite it being clear as day he was cooked for about the preceeding 18 months.

Great fit for the board.

We'll go from having the highest member numbers voting at one election to club officials walking around the port club with slips of paper and a hat to try and reach double digit votes

Im honestly not entirely against TJ, Id at least be open to it.

He said some dumb shit as a player, especially during the co captains era, but we know he's intelligent (holds a law degree), very hard working and resilient (became captain of an afl club with very little in the way of natural talent), and is young with room to grow and develop.

The biggest problem I see is he's someone that spent his career without winning anything and yet seems content with that. Thats a scary thing. Do we blame that on him, or do we blame that on the mediocre near enough is good enough culture he was stuck in?

Anyway Id hope there are better options but Im not gonna freak out if he gets on the board, especially in one of these two fan voted positions. At the very least Ill hear what he has to say.

I have mixed views about Tom on the board I loved how he started his career when young, tough and seemed focussed on success but he got Hinkleyfied too easily. He could surprise and be good on the board I don't know at least he has played at the highest level unlike most of the others on the board.
I will see who the other candidates are before I decide if he gets my vote or not.

Being intelligent is not a prerequisite for holding a degree.

He's really not. I sat at a table with him for a couple of hours for a sponsor event a few years back now and he was engaging, entertaining, thoughtful, generous with his time (the AFL contract stipulated he only had to stay an hour but he just kept going) and readily gave his opinion on a range of topics.

People might laugh at Kochie saying he could lead a club but after meeting him in that environment, I thought the same.
