Just found this thread, Melb Mara #7 for me tomorrow. Good luck to everyone doing it also. Weather looking pretty grim (min of 19, strong northerly winds). Will take it pretty easy first 30 and get plenty of fluids in.

tough day out there today. Warm and windy. Struggled after about 37ks as usual, esp up around the Tan. Hung on to the 3:10 pacers for dear life and eventually got a sub 3:10 time, which was great. Hope everyone went ok.

Wow. Good work mate

Tough conditions out there, particularly around the lake. My splits were all pretty good, but I think it took it's toll in the last few kms. That finish line on the G couldn't come quick enough. I blew up in km 20 and 21, but held on for a PB in the half with a bit over 1:28.

I've definitely got the taste for a full next. I've kept putting it off waiting for a long block of training staying healthy, but I'm not sure that will ever come. Might be time to bite the bullet and step up to the big one. Will no doubt be picking some brains soon.

Otherwise well done to all. Always a huge effort to devote so much time to training to even get up for a day like today. And no matter how good we feel, there's always those barriers we need to push through.

I'm probably still riding the high from Sunday, but can anyone recommend a marathon in Feb/March next year?

Looking for something on the road, pretty flat and quick. Would consider travelling to SA or NSW, but prefer something in VIC.

Anyone done the Wangaratta marathon before? Thoughts?

Cheers

Finally got back into running for the first time in 6months.

I lost all motivation to exercise after some personal tragedy.

Just did a few 2-3km runs at a slow pace, hoping to ramp up while the warm weather is arriving.

so i just won a running kit (shoes, shorts, shirt) from The North Face at this website
https://au.runningheroes.com/

its like flybuys for runners. just sign up and link your strava/garmin account and earn points for every k you run. you can redeem the points for discounts plus they have weekly challenges where they give away stuff...thats what i won

if you do happen to sign up please use my code 4b3e cause i get a free t-shirt for 10 referrals

in other unrelated running stuff, i've signed up for a marathon at the end of November. i wasnt going to race this year, just wanted to stay injury free, but boredom got the better of me.
i've done zero marathon specific training all year so im not expecting much...just want to finish. i knocked out 35k on Sunday at what i hope will be race pace (5:40 per k) and felt like complete shit afterwards but it was hot and windy and hilly so im not overly disappointed.
that said it could well be hot and windy on a late November morning so i better be prepared.
one more long run this weekend and then i start to taper...the taper will be longer than the training :)
finishing is the goal, sub four is probably a realistic chance, anything better than 3:59:59 and i'll be doing cartwheels over the finish line.

also, great to hear wadistance. i hope fatherhood has been good to you.

Wasn't the greatest Melbourne from about 24km onward. Things were actually looking great until then! The upside was that the slow 4:33 time was enough to qualify me to enter the Comrades Marathon next year and I figured why the hell not! Looking to improve on the Q-Time at Canberra next year which is the last realistic chance to get myself to a better start pen. Anyway Point to Pinnacle again next Sunday (hopefully it isn't snowing) and City2Sea the next Saturday rounds out the year for me.

40k @ 5:19 each this morning. negative split of 3 minutes. :)
felt alright at the end.
have i peaked too early? :p

im really happy with the run. just got to stay healthy now and keep the legs turning over till race day.
sub 4 hours is still the target. i dont want to suffer from goal creep off the back of one half decent run.

...its going to be a long 3 weeks
