Finished NY marathon last Sunday in a tad under 3:15. What an awesome mind blowing experience. Crowd was 4-5 deep most of the way, with a defeaning sound. Organisation was brilliant for 52,000 runners. 20 year dream for me, so stoked to have done it....bucket list item!

Amazing effort and super time too.

Its definitely on my bucket list as well. one day :)
Like bigange said great time Jonnoo I know a few people that have done it and they say that you kind of have to put a time goal aside just enjoy the day as theres so many runners that it makes it hard to smash out a really good time unless you're at the front. Good job mate.

absolutely Milang_Panthers the course is too hilly (5 times up and over bridges and the hills around Central Park) to really target a PB, but honestly, I did not care. I spent the first 30 kms smiling, high fiving kids, and just enjoying the amazing atmosphere. The five boroughs are so different (noise of Brooklyn, the quiet of the Jewish Queens area, the Bronx and then the crescendo of Manhattan) all add to a marathon of individual sections. Do anything you can to get in to this Marathon, it is bigger and better than you can imagine. A week later and I am still pinching myself.

25.5k @ 5:08 this morning
my last serious workout until raceday. i'll probably throw in a 5k effort on the weekend and then 3k the day before the race but neither will be all out.
everything else will done in my usual Maffetone shuffle with nothing exceeding 14k.

only 12 days to go and i'm neverous as all hell but im pretty sure im ready.

also, the North Face gear i won from runningheroes.com arrived yesterday.
$390 worth of kit in total according to the TNF website

most of my kit comes from Target so this is a nice change.
...now all i need to do is find a trail to run on.

Well, my running came to a grounding halt after the Melbourne half last month. My hip has not been right since and was actually causing me problems beforehand. Anyway, I finally bit the bullet and saw a sports doc yesterday. He's referred me for an MRI this weekend. I'm really hoping it will give me an answer, but fingers crossed it doesn't mean too much time out. Damn injuries!!

Don't be surprised if it is ITB Syndrome, I had the same issue with my hip for a while before it started getting sore in my knee. Hopefully if it is you will have got it early enough to not have to take a long break.

Sports doc is pretty sure it's not muscular and wants to check for a labral tear or stress fracture. Hopefully the latter, otherwise I could be looking at surgery.

Sounds great. Did you just go into the draw? Or did you organised guaranteed entry?

I had guaranteed entry from a 2015 Marathon (<3:05 for my age group), but plenty of Aussies there got in through the lottery.

I reckon plenty of Aussies also buy packages that guarantee entry as well, but they usually either come with accommodation only or flights only plus entry. Certainly that's probably the easiest way to get into London, I've known some to miss out for years on the London ballot. I may take my chances with London in 2018 but that's so far down the track it's probably not worth thinking about.

MRI showed a healing stress fracture in my femur. No running until Xmas with a targeted program to strengthen my glutes, then a jog/walk schedule in Jan and hopefully back into running by Feb.

Good news I guess but that all seems so far away!!!

Cheers mate. I'm hoping it goes quickly!

Sounds like the stress response started pre-MM, so here's hoping I can come back fitter and faster next year and get that time down.

enjoy the break mate (i know its easier said than done)...most of us could use it but we're always reluctant to take it.

So, after a long layoff, have started running again. Never been a runner at all, longest I have ever done is 6.5km.

This morning I did a Parkrun, the first organised run I have ever done. Really enjoyed it. I ended up getting 25.03 for the 5km, which I was happy with given that my previous best was approx 27.00.

Now, just have to make sure I protect the calves, so that I can start to shave down that time.

Has anyone here done an oxfam 100k? I'm doing Melb next April and am curious about anyone's experiences and advice.
are you referring to Trailwalker? if so there are some decent race report threads on CoolRunning but you'll have to go back quite a few years to the days when people still used to post there

Barely done any running this month. May have just clicked over 100km after nailing 50km of that in the first few days of the month.

Combination of factors....starting cricket, man flu, a few bucks trips and some upper back and shoulder pain.

Really missing it. Between the back and lack of running I'm feeling quite putrid and I've enjoyed the few runs I've managed to have. Just need to het the routine working again. With cricket again and the heat (hopefully) picking up, I might need to start becoming a morning a runner.

i ended up running 3:39 and change.
there was plenty of uphill and downhill so pacing was difficult but i think i got it just about right. out and back course and the way back was net uphill gain so a negative split was impossible.

im really pleased with the time but my knees are shot. i almost knew it was going it was going to happen, thats why i've been taking it easy this year. so while im happy im also kicking myself for being so god damn stupid. hopefully i havent done any long term damage and this will pass soon.
outside of the knees all is well...no chaffing and my muscles feel fine.

I'm booked in for a hernia operation mid December. Will be a frustrating lay off of around 4 weeks I'm guessing. Still been punching a few kms out with over 200km each month since Jan. Motivation has dropped off a bit without any events on the radar but have enjoying some new trails I've been exploring in the Grampians which is making the flat town kms feel so boring.
